Sony Unveils 1st Party 1:1 Sword Fighting Game. <3's Eyetoy #1

Yesterday at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's London Studios confirmed that they are working on a first-person motion-tracking sword game that will be released by Christmas 2008.

should probably include this

Quote:
Although the motion-sensing has 1:1 accuracy, it’s only in the two dimensions onscreen, rather than the three dimensions that the Wii Remote can manage. The EyeToy also cannot detect more subtle movements such as the twisting of the player’s wrist. The EyeToy still has difficulty distinguishing colours accurately in anything but the brightest of lighting conditions.

Oh eye-toy. False alarm at ease men.

I knew something was strange when I noticed the game was 2D lol.

I'm surprised they haven't released any new content for it considering that two titles they released for it are consistently in the Top Downloads list in the Playstation Store.

Don't like the art style, don't like how they list "real toy sword" as a feature. Do not like.

I wonder if a waggle device is in the future for the 3triple. Waggle Mote + Camera + Sword Game made by internal SCEE = RADness.

This is about EyeToy Play: Hero? I'd hardly call it an unveiling; we've known about it for months. It's a PS2 game aimed for kids, along with EyeToy Play: Pom Pom Party.

PALGN has an old preview here from last may.

A: So how bright does it need to be before it can distinguish anything accurately?
B: See that? *pointing at the brilliantly bright shining sun
A: Yeah? That bright? *gulps*
B: That ain't bright enough.

Too much lag. for fast actions. Framerate is too low for ultra detailed moves. You can't beat a gyroscoped enhanced wiimote @ 100hz.

And also: Sony had the chance to do something new with eyetoy but they haven't used one bit of the camera's potential in all these years.

Man you guys sure are trolling. The game might be very fun. I'm a little disappointed that it isn't their answer to motion-plus but at least it shows they are interested in this sort of control mechanic.

Awesome. I wonder if it will work with my front projection setup. Is the sword self illuminated or will it need bright lighting?

Actually the camera captures at 120hz...so that's not really true.

Could this be another one of those 12 announcements that are supposed to be coming at leipzig?

So, Dragon Quest Swords but the sword will actually slice where you meant it do.

As long as there's no Slime Crisis...

Sounds like an epic failure in the making. Nice concept but so many "but"s in the article.. 2D, eye-toy capture limitations etc.
