I haven't progressed much so far, i'm still in the creature stage. I've been having a heap of fun just messing around in it and creating heaps of stuff. Can't say i'm disappointed. I never really read much about the game, so i had almost non-existent expectations going in.

I find the visual style pretty charming.

But I'm not sure how stuff works, and spice flow seems to be crap even if you have colonies (Which keep getting raided every 3 minutes)

My area explored so far is only about a 50 parsec circle. I've got no money, and I used the 400k I got from taking over an easy planet on HP and crap missiles.

I'm at a standstill, even though 3/5 are my allies, the enemy has about 60% territory and their ships beat the crap out of mine.

I can't really push farther with no money and worse firepower.

If I try to colonize that's a lot of investment for something I will keep having to defend, and sometimes even fail at that.

Conquering the universe isn't supposed to be easy :)

For those that have it - can you make a klingon-like race? I want Birds of Prey ships! Lots of them, the making of my very own fleet....commodore!

So I 'died' in the tribe phase with one last tribe left to conquer, and it boots me back to the start?

I have to do all of that over again? WTF?

I have a question. In the space stage is it possible to conquer other races via non-military means? I'll be dissappointed I think if the space part is just military action.

Pretty sure/hopeful that the religious/economic options remain in the space stage.

According to the Gamespot feature today, Crop circles and Odyssey style monolith drops. Those probably fall under religious.

Here's a few shots of my Creature's adventures in the Creature stage. Sorry, no early shots of it as I wasn't aware of the screenshot function back then (but you can see my Creature in in earlier forms on my profile - http://www.spore.com/view/profile/farronfox ).

At home with partner..

Hanging out with some friends..

Charming the natives..

Taking flight..

I've given up on it for now, it's impossible to evolve like this...

Anyone having the same problem?
Had this problem, solution for me was being aggressive player in earlier stages (less pirates) and when starting in the space stage be super super super careful. Don't even explore too much.

Yeah, worth flying around a bit to find that. Sometimes I'll just sell like 60 spice in one go. Money isn't a problem, though I do not like the fact that I keep having to do this manually. Trade routes should just make money automatically. And if not that, then colonies should make money automatically.

Trade routes work in space like they do in civilization, so do religious things I think.

Saw this linked on a blog I go to once in a while and thought you guys would love it as much as I did.

A post containing Youtube videos of 13 Badass Spore Creatures that Aren't Penises, which include:

- Solid Snake
- a Viking ship, complete with rowers and dudes in Viking helms
- Jesus on the cross
- Bowser
- Leonardo from TMNT
- R2-D2

I liked the Viking ship and Bowser most -- the ship for the pure awesomeness, Bowser for how well it turned out.

If it is just a single creature you want, and not everything from a certain user (where you add them to your Buddy list) then use the ingame Sporepedia, and select 'Search online'. Type whatever it is in the box you want to search for, and then when the results come up click on 'Download creation' for the one you want.

Space game is getting to be really really fun now. I finally have the atmospheric tools you don't have to buy ammo for, I've conquered three or four empires now, have four allies and have been set the goal to locate the Grox in the galactic center. Though I might hold off on that goal for a bit until I upgrade my UFO a bit more. Also finally unlocked the planet buster, though at 4M a pop, it ain't cheap :P. But on the other hand, I regularly do spice sales in excess of 1M now thanks to a ton of colonies terraformed to T2 or T3. Space game is definitely a lot of fun, I just wish it wouldn't be so frustrating early on, and that they'd just ease up a bit on eco missions/pirate raids/enemy aggressiveness. And it would be even better if there was some automatic way to generate money so you can just worry about colonizing new stuff and exploring the galaxy.

It would be cool, if you could set a creature to a new planet and do the creature phase again with this creature. Or terraform a planet to redo the cell phase.

Ok that was a complete failure. No exterminate for me. The complexity limiter also kicked in way to early for my taste. :(

But now I need to go back to actual play the damn game! ^^

But my "to do" list for the vehicle creators:

Serenity
Prometheus
Daedalus
X-301 (or was it 302? ah who cares!)
Goa'uld mothership

Also wanted to do a HL2 Strider, but there are no legs for it. :(

Probably been asked, how demanding is the game?

I can run the creature creator fine but the full retail is obviously going to be a little more taxing-will a 9800pro run it adequately?

P.S. I'm running the game on a Macbook with a GMA 950 (yes, even if it says it's not supported), the game runs, well, not bad, but the creature creator has some problem ; D

It's designed to run on GMA950 for PC, and more optimally for GMAX3100 (min spec for Mac, in newer PCs). the 9800pro is still like 4x as powerful as that. Never underestimate the weakness of integrated graphics. The X3100 is still slower than the Radeon 9600.

The 9800pro is actually surprisingly decent as a low end card today. It's almost as good as an X800, and some (or all?) of the 9800pros were actually an X800 with disabled pipes (that you could unlock with some hardware mod) from the early point in X800 production when yields were low, and they didn't want to throw out mostly working GPUs.

The small simple ships are actual pretty hard to rebuild. Didn't turn out good. :(

I saw on another forum "rare" spices?

Are Green/Pink worth any more than others?

Do all spice planets cap at 5 max besides home planet? Is there a way to know?

Does the "mini" happy ray work on people who super hate you?

I guess I'll just work toward terraforming badges so I don't need to buy those stupid ammo things.

Also: AIR UNITS ARE ONLY LIKE 3-5K WHY CAN'T MY STUPID COLONY MAKE DOZENZ OF AIR BOATS FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK.

Also also: You never get a fleet and are stuck with your single UFO the whole time right?
You can take allies ships (up to 2-3 so far for me) but I lose standing when they die.
Which is often.

Computers made in past 4 years it will run

Computers made in past 2 years, it will run fine

Any computer with an actual graphics card you can basically max it out

It's because the view distance is crap and it doesn't have to render much.

Now, someone help me god dammit

Probably depends on difficulty.

Quote:

You get 5 storage capacity per colony on a planet (so 15 on a T3 planet), you can add a spice crate later that adds 10 capacity extra.

Yeah, you are stuck with your single UFO, which sucks and should be changed for a sequel or add-on. And for me, I find that the allied ships are so weak, that I don't even bother to bring them anymore. Not worth it.

Spice geysers really don't seem to have any effect as far as I can tell. It's all down to colony design from what I can gather. And for every stage it's the same basically. Get into the circle for T1/T2/T3, add three plants, add two herbivores, add omnivore/carnivore and you're set. It's fairly basic.

What's fun btw is using that shit as weapons, enemy homeworlds can be hard to take down, but not if you just suck all the atmosphere out with your spaceship :P. I did that, took over the one colony that was still standing. And then terraformed the planet back to T3 :P. And yes, T3 is very much preferred for all colonies, and pretty easy when you get those powers that just depend on energy.

I've bought a couple, and yeah, you can't bid lower than 500k, which sucks, because for the shit systems with only a T0 planet, the empire you're buying from will always praise your generosity.
