EA knock themselves off the top of the All Formats Chart this week, but it’s not the critically acclaimed ‘Spore’ which grabs top spot, rather the explosive ‘Mercenaries 2: World in Flames’. ‘Mercenaries 2’ sells 60% on Xbox 360 and 33% on PS3 with the remainer on PS2 and PC.
‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09’ is the only game in the All Formats Top 10 to rise in sales, up 9% on last week, but it still has to settle for 2nd place. ‘Spore’, designed by Sims creator Will Wright is only 1,162 units behind at No3, handing EA a clean sweep of the Top 3 games. Sales of ‘Spore’ account for 53% of all full priced PC games sold this week. The rest of the All Formats Top 10 all shuffle amongst themselves with Nintendo still making its presence felt in the Top 10 despite ‘Wii Fit’ dropping one place to No4, ‘Mario Kart Wii’ slipping from No2 to No6 and ‘Wii Play’ down 2 places to No7. Take 2 continue to celebrate strong sales of ‘Carnival: Funfair Games’, down from No4 to No5, while Sega’s ‘Mario and Sonic’ is down from No6 to No8.
THQ hang on in the All Formats Top 10 with ‘Big Beach Sports’ down 2 places to No9 and ‘Wall-E’ is a non-mover at No10. This week’s remaining non-EA new releases are all outside the Top 20: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 ‘Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise’ at No23, Deep Silver’s PC ‘S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky’ at No25 and Square-Enix’s Xbox 360 ‘Infinite Undiscovery’ at No28. Sales increases in the 2nd week of release see DS titles from Ubisoft and Atari break into the Top 40: ‘Imagine: Teacher’ at No31 and ‘Driving Theory Training’ at No39.

Wow. a PC game at number 1. Take a good look, this is the last time you'll see that until The Sims 3.

(Maybe Red Alert 3 next month.. but I doubt it)

Mercenaries 2 doing really well on both versions but the advert media is deffo help the sale.
I am sort of surprise that Spore take the top chart after strong Wii softwares but it is good news.

Too bad for Viva Piñata and Infinite Undiscovery, hope it will have some legs.

No DS games in the top 10? Not even Train Braining? :(

Driving Theory Training is beginning it's accent to the top though (or at least had decent 2nd week sales).

Apparently MORrisONS UK are doing half price chart games atm (£15 DS, £20 Wii, £25 HD) so if you fancy the new stuff it's worth a trip.

Surprisingly strong opening for Mercs, really disappointing opening for Viva. Too Human takes a harsh drop, too, but I guess that's expected.

The first Viva Pinata didn't even chart in the Top 40.

I haven't seen a single TV ad for this VP, so given the userbase of the 360 I'm surprise it even charted.

What the hell is the point in 'diversifying' with games like this if you aren't going to market them? Wii games have legs because they're still being advertised endlessly on the TV. MS need to wise up. It's almost like Sega in the Dreamcast days. Only they have money, they're just not using it.

Some were, some weren't. The ones that act as if the days following the first three days of sales are pointless for a publisher and Sales-Age , are silly.

Spore is selling, that's a good sign. There was concern about how they would market the game to casuals.

UK All Formats chart info:
Quote:
EA's Mercenaries fires-up Chart

This shit is weird. Tiger Woods was almost neck and neck on both formats last week, and yet this for Mercs 2. Then again, Mercs 2 has guns, and...

EDIT: I'm surprised Infinite Undiscovery charted at all. Niche JRPG, poor reviews, no real marketing. Seems like there are some seriously starved JRPG fans this generation.

There's just too many games releasing within the same period for the 360 I think. If a game like Infinite undiscovery is going to sell well its going to need all the help it can get. Having a lot of other good games being released too isn't help, oh well it might sell well in N/a :( .

20 for Viva isn't bad. I expect Viva to sell a lot over a long period, rather than a shitload in a month.

Hooray for Spore - my copy hasn't arrived yet :(.

Tiger Woods Wii does what we all expected and will continue to do so - hopefully they'll have a 100% compelling product ready for '10. M&S still holding strong even after the Olympics is really mindboggling, the DS version made quite the jump this week.

I would have liked higher entries for Stalker and Viva but it was to be expected.

Interesting that SE Europe is publishing IU.

Great for Spore. STALKER isn't bad either, on line with console niche products (like IU). Football Manager also deserves the love. One of the best series ever.

WiiPC > PS360

hooray!!!!

Not Charting =/= Tanking

It'll sell. Just slowly but surely. FF3 DS sold pretty well in EU, FF1 and 2 on PSP did also, but these aren't games that chart and more games that slow-burn outside the chart. As of these chart figures being published it'd only been out for 2 days.

Paralymics started about 2 days ago :) I dont know if that will boost too much sales of M&S though, but i think this game will keep on selling good atleast to christmas 2008, and mayb even longer :)

Mario & Sonic are at the Paralympics now. Blind football is amazing!

And as for FFIV tanking only 5 PS2 final fantasy games have sold over 100,000 copies since 2001.
If Square want to get FF to sell on the DS in the UK they are going to have to call it Imagine:Nerdy Boyfriend.

Family Ski.
Driving Theory Training.
Sports Party
Imagine Teacher
Scrabble Interactive
Carnival: Funfair Games. (x2)
Big Beach Sports.

As a Nintendo fan, im not too proud of their software domination on their platforms when this is most of what it consists of.

Nope. As Spore is both PC AND MAC out of the box I feel a new Era of Mac gaming approaching. Or at least I would if it worked on my non intel Mac. Fuckers.

When Sony was dominating it was virtually the same thing, only with Harry Potter, Need for Speed, etc.

I know it was half in jest but does anyone actually care about the Paralympics? I sure don't.

You seem to think that Nintendo made those games. You need a wake up call.

And where the hell is Mercs 2 for the PS2 in those charts?

I know Nintendo didnt make any of those games, I should have been more clear, sorry. I meant not proud of *whats selling* software-wise on the Nintendo platforms.

Ok :) Personally i dont have too much interest in the Paralympics, but i guess several of people do, especially the people who have a physical handicap in some way and especially if they are interested in sport as well, if i should guess that is, but i dont know.
