Quick description:
Disaster: Day of Crisis is an action game developed by Monolithsoft (Baten Kaitos, Xenosaga) and published by Nintendo. Despite being announced in 2006 and delayed multiple times, not much media has been made available and apparently no outlet has been able to play it yet and the game started getting coverage just a few days before getting released in Japan.
The game counts 23 stages with different gameplay styles: we have exploration stages, lightgun-style shooting, QTE-filled cutscenes and driving sequences, all mixed together in one main single player story mode.

Synopsis from Nintendo of Europe:

In Disaster: Day of Crisis for Wii you’ll have to tackle both as you guide former U.S. Marine Raymond Bryce through an action-packed mission where everything that can go wrong, does.

Disaster: Day of Crisis will have you driving, swimming, running and shooting your way through 23 tense stages as the environment around you is laid to ruin by volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and tsunamis. And if nature wasn’t a force enough to be reckoned with, there’s a shadowy terrorist cell, named SURGE, that must be stopped at all costs.

With a military background and experience in the International Rescue Team, Ray is as well equipped as any man can be for the drama that awaits him. It’ll be up to you to guide him through the worst day of his life. You’ll use the unique capabilities of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to evade the forces of nature, disarm bombs and much more.

As you go, you’ll have to keep an eye on Ray’s health status – finding clear air to breathe if his lungs fill up with smoke or food to replenish his falling stamina. You’ll also need to perform daring rescue operations to save citizens who might be trapped under rubble or in danger of drowning and even administer life-saving first aid.

With intense cinematics, a raft of unlockable content and relentless action, Disaster: Day of Crisis guarantees thrills and spills that would leave the bravest of action heroes quaking in their boots.

* Guide former marine Ray as he tackles the terrorist cell SURGE and battles against the forces of nature.
* Use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in a diverse range of ways to overcome your environment, rescue citizens and take out your enemies.
* Enjoy the movie-like storyline that unfolds.

I really love the box art. It's just so classy.

I hope the game is good though it seems doubtful.

This game has been on my must buy list since Wii's launch, though recent gameplay vids, the long wait, and other game announcements have all but killed my interest in the title. Why doesn't North America have a release date yet?

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

So GAF do I buy the Japanese version and then get the Euro one or just get the Euro one... its all subtitled in Japanese rather then just the other way around...

Why are they called SURGE in the European version if they're called STORM in the Japanese version? Wouldn't that just mean two sets of voice acting from the same actors?

Anyway, does anybody know if there are high scores in this game? This is already a day one, I just hope it'll get a lot of play in the home from us trying to beat eachother

great thread, Jocchan

like I said in the trailer thread, I'm buying it on day one because I'm pretty curious. Animations and characters models look like ass, special effects looks good, gameplay might be varied enough and since my Wii hasn't seen an action game since 2006, I'm giving this a try

I'm totally expecting a semi-turd, anyway

Actually, I have no idea if the game will be good or not (and it's pretty weird I made a thread - my first thread on GAF, lol - about it).
The game is out in six days in Japan, and because of Nintendo's secrecy most people still don't know what the game's about (looks like there's much more than just lightgun shooting + minigames, despite what many people think), so I thought about gathering some info together for those who might interested in the game (like me, unless bad reviews start to come in).

When with the Famitsu reviews come out? I'm into this game. It reminds me of Indigo prophecy in an action setting instead of sci-fi mystery.

I'm looking forward to this game, hopefully it will be casual friendly in terms of required time commitments. I imagine it will be, as it seems like a deliberate bridge game - minigames coupled with a summer action flick storyline.

I hate the huge USK thing

Fuck you Ursula von der Leyen, FUCK YOUUUU

I wonder if there's any replayability. I guess not because it looks like a playable movie... maybe a highscore board or something like that. I think i will get it anyway. Looks like fun.

It looks like there's some kind of harder New Game+ if you beat the game.

Not only von der Leyen, but yeah not very pretty, it's even worse on DS boxes though. Then again von der Leyen and her posse did things far worse than bigger stickers.

As for the replayability, apart from the New Game+ the levels are also score based (at least that's what it looked like in one of the screens).

I'm actually pretty interested in this game as well, but the complete silence from not only NoA, but also NoJ is troubling. The fact that it's been announced for Europe but not NA is VERY troubling in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to impressions. Hoping it's just NoA being weird and NoJ's new (foolish) strategy of not hyping a game at all and just releasing it on shelves after a week or two of screen shots.

I really want this to be good......but I just can't help feeling it's going to be a good story, some good cut-scenes glued together by these stages consisting of minigames and QTEs.

On the other hand I hope these are just the bits they are advertising and the main game has some free-roaming and action/adventure style play.

Good thread btw.

Why would it not come out in America? I remember it being one of the first Wii games we saw a small snippet of at E3 2000, and I believe it was talked about briefly too. If Capitan Rainbow came out in Europe but not America I would probably understand as they didn't release Tingle DS over there either, but this? It's a game that celebrates cheesy Hollywood blockbusters!

EDIT: Jesus was there. Oh yes.

If I can get hours of playtime out of ghost squad then there is definitely potential to play this game as a score attack type of game after you are done with the plot, provided they allow you to play the sections individually and provide rewards for higher scores (Bear suit maybe?).

That's what I'm hoping as well (and that these sections play well too). If not I'll just rent it.
