You should watch Thunderball again soon, Spotless. The only real issue I have with it is that its just too damned long. Could really have used some trimming, most notably during the underwater sequences. Revolutionary photography at the time, but they just go on far too long.

The next movies comes to us From Russia With Love.
Yeah, the second movie in the Bond franchise. Is From Russia With Love ![]() Our man holding the rank of 007 is once again Sean Connery. Our Bond girl is Tatiana Romanova ![]() The villain is one of my favorites, Red Grant ![]() This is the first Bond film with a pre-title sequence which is also one of the better ones in the franchise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SLqD8Pa1uo The Trailer from 63 And one of life's greatest mysteries http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDR6lv2dGTQ The opening title sequence. Has an instrumental version of the theme, but there is an actual theme with lyrics at the end. I also happen to like the theme. So day 2 takes us to Russia. Enjoy. |

From Russia With Love time.
You have to enjoy a villainess who can throw a punch to judge if a man is suitable for her needs. |

Recording Bond in the bed... so haha
And never realized Bond's introduction to Jinx in Die Another Day was a homage to how he met Tatiana in this movie. Well the verbal part anyhow. James really abuses women in the earlier movies. Just smacked down Tatiana. Last edited by Penguin : 10-02-2008 at 04:14 PM. |

The whole interaction/fight with Red Grant is so well done.
Such a brutal and close quarter fight. |

I never knew so many people disliked Brosnan - I liked all his Bond movies
But then again I liked all the bond movies I've seen (except The Man With The Golden Gun - that final "fight" was just too... ehh) The only ones I haven't seen are Dr. No and FRWL... oddly enough the two already being discussed! |

Robert Shaw (who most would know as Quint from Spielberg's "Jaws") was so awesome in this. |

I'm missing Bontober!?
That's ok I wasn't that big a fan of the first few Bonds anyway...they get a lot better. I saw pretty much all the classic ones. You know I never saw post Goldeneye to Casino in bonds...are they truly that horrible? Goldeneye was pretty fucking awesome, as well as Bronson. Shame they killed Alec...it could have been a good reocurring villian. Was 006 in any other movies?? |

At least the first 3 (Dr. No, From Russia with Love and goldfinger), its been a while since I've seen Thunderball. |

So I absolutely love The Living Daylights and Timothy Dalton as Bond, probably my favorite Bond film, and the opening pre-credit sequence over the rock of Gibraltar is amazing... But lol at Bond when he lands on that boat, calls back to HQ to tell M he'll be back at base in one hour, then the girl asks him to stay for a bit so he revises his message "Better make that two." Goddamn James, your fellow double-0 agent was just murdered, can't you keep your mind off the ladies for just one minute

I know this is late but since off for the weekend was personally gonna push the movie back.
Anyhow, I guess its my blunder for not typing this with my Goldfinger... Okay that was bad. But the next movie in Bond-tober brings us to Goldfinger the man with the golden touch. ![]() Our Bond for the 3rd time is once again Sean Connery Our villain is Auric Goldfinger, who really is like the first gimmicky bad guy. Dr. No had an island and a hook hand, but he wasn't in the movie much. Red Grant was pretty much just Bond's physical equal where as Goldfinger is well in love with Gold ![]() And where Red was a henchman and there were some in other movies, I mean Oddjob is the real deal here, and a hat that could kill ![]() The Bond girl is one with one of the least subtle names, Pussy Galore ![]() The Trailer for the Movie The Intro Like mentioned with FRWL, it had a theme song, but it was attached to the end so really this was the first Bond movie that started the whole theme song/intro video sequence that has continued. Actually, this movie started the formula for many of the following Bonds, but we shall all enjoy finding those today. |

On pure entertainment level I think Goldfinger is the #1 for me. Great flow and rhythm, not to mention the laid back atmosphere and amusing chit chat. Not necessarily the best Bond movie, and you can say what you want about its influence on the series, but I really love it. And I can never stop reciting "You're a woman of many parts, Pusshy" .

![]() My fav Bond Girl ever. She was totally different from any Bond girl and just lit up the screen whenever she was there. IMO, she was the only one who was able to combine sexiness with elegance and not just the typical bimbo who's only there to be screwed by Bond. |

I think Goldfinger is overrated, and the start of all the negative things that permeated the series for the next few decades, but with that said, I do enjoy it lots, and its really fun. The image of Jill Masterson painted gold is absolutely iconic, and I love the whole Fort Knox plot, as ludicrous as it is.

From Russia With Love is very good, although it's sort of a poor man's Hitchcock movie. Ali Kerim Bay is a great ally. Great sense of classic style throughout the whole movie.
The train fight is epic and there's some nice action for an early 60s flick. Goldfinger's one of the best in the series, but it's pretty much all sizzle with the Aston Martin, the girl painted gold, the laser beam, the epic lines, gadgets, the golf game, Goldfinger and Oddjob being awesome villains, Pussy Galore. Basically a heist flick at its core, but I guess that makes it unique among the Bond films. Still a top 5 Bond film at the worst and this one is either #2 or #3 for me. |

I wasnt a fan of Serra's score by and large anyways. David Arnold Im also lukewarm on (actually, I hated his work up until CR, which I thought sounded suitably Barry-esque).
All it really does though is make me muiss John Barry all the more :( |

It's a day late, but reason I put weekends for catch-up.
Its Goldfinger time. ~Edit~ I just realized and double checked a site to make sure Bond doesn't introduce himself as Bond, James Bond in From Russia With Love instead he uses something that is repeated in Die Another Day when Tatiana tells him what her parents call her, he says his call him James Bond... Jinx says friends I believe -Goldfinger has a rather simple opening sequence. I guess they still were perfecting the formula as its basically gold statues with footage from the movie. -The wittisms come quick and heavy in this movie -The image of Jill with her body painted gold is probably one of the best in the series. Nice thread, I'm a big fan of the movies myself (I'd say Goldfinger is probably my favourite).
I'm going to pass on the Blu-Ray releases for now though, as I've got 14 of the movies on DVD and I've found a place selling the rest for £3 each so I'll complete the set on DVD for now and may upgrade down the line at some point. As for my favourite Bond, I'd say Connery for sure, although I did like Craig in Casino Royale and I'm looking forward to seeing his performance in Quantum of Solace. I also really liked Timothy Dalton as Bond, and Roger Moore was ok when he wasn't throwing out dodgy one-liners every two seconds. Brosnan I'm fairly indifferent to, and Lazenby was alright but then he only did one movie in the role so I'm not sure about him. |

Sorry about the delay, but had this up and ready to go last night and then for some strange reason all the text disappeared. Was not a happy Penguin.
Anyhow, the next movie in our Bond-tastic October is Thunderball. ![]() Our Bond for the 4th time is Sean Connery. ![]() Our Bond girl Dominique Derval ![]() Our bond villain is number 2 himself, Emilio Largo ![]() This movie is famous for its VERY extended underwater chase scene. This is one of my favorites. In fact, it rounds out my top 5 (following FRWL, CR, OHMSS, and TLD). I love everything about it (although the underwater scenes drag on FAR too long; the movie could have easily been 30 minutes shorter) - the Tom Jones theme, the stuff with James in physical rehab, the locales (this movie made me want to go to Nassau), the women (both Domino and Volpe), John Barry's score, etc. One of the greats for me. Its also the final Connery movie in which he still gave a damn.
Also -worthy is the fact that while this was only the fourth Bond movie, they were already on their third actor playing Felix Leiter. |
