So basically X360 gamers get to play... the real end? Or some kind of expansion. May probably be just an extra level that doesn't give anything special to the story. It might not be 6 hours, but even if it's just 3... damn, that is a lot of extra gameplay.EIDOS AND XBOX ANNOUNCE EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOADABLE CHAPTERS FOR TOMB RAIDER: UNDERWORLD
Monday 6th October/... Eidos Interactive, creator of some of the world’s leading video game properties, today announces an agreement with Microsoft to release two brand new downloadable chapters in the continuing Tomb Raider adventures of Lara Croft. Containing up to six hours of new gameplay and content for Tomb Raider: Underworld™, the chapters will be available exclusively on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®. A demo for Tomb Raider: Underworld will also be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace in October.
Offering entirely new content specifically designed to extend the Tomb Raider: Underworld experience, Tomb Raider: Underworld – Beneath the Ashes and Tomb Raider: Underworld – Lara’s Shadow will deliver two very different single player gameplay experiences. Tomb Raider: Underworld – Beneath the Ashes takes place after the Underworld story has finished and will feature an incredible new environment to explore, additional secrets to unlock and different enemies to fight. Tomb Raider: Underworld - Lara’s Shadow will introduce players to a new kind of playable character and create a unique Tomb Raider experience.
The first new chapter, Tomb Raider: Underworld – Beneath the Ashes, will be available for download exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace this Christmas. Tomb Raider: Underworld – Lara’s Shadow will follow in early 2009.
“We are constantly looking at ways to extend our franchises, whilst developing a deeper relationship with our players. The retail release of any videogame is just the start of the player experience, from there it all depends where you want to take the player in terms of ideas and innovation,” said Sean Vesce. “With these additional chapters and the online reach of Xbox LIVE, we are able to deliver exclusive content to millions of gamers worldwide.”
“We’re thrilled that Xbox owners will be able to extend their Lara Croft adventures with exclusive ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ episodes,” said George Peckham, General Manager of Global Third Party Publishing for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business. “We look forward to continue working closely with our great publishing partners to deliver the most robust gaming experiences, only on Xbox 360.”
Tomb Raider: Underworld will release on Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Wii™, PlayStation®2, Nintendo DS, and PC Games for Windows platforms. With development led by Crystal Dynamics, developers of the recent Tomb Raider blockbusters, Tomb Raider: Underworld™ represents a new advancement in exploration-based gameplay. As the fearless adventurer Lara Croft, players explore, raid and solve the mysteries of exotic locations around the world, each designed in breathtaking high-definition visual fidelity that creates a truly believable world and delivers a new level of challenge and choice. meh.. I'm still buying this for the PS3. MS money hats be damned, I still enjoy the DS3 better and rarely play DLC outside of music games.
Is Fallout doing this as well?Originally Posted by neojubei

I actually like the idea, because I don't think these companies would be making DLC if it wasn't paid for by a first party, who knows, maybe it would.

*runs*
As for the free dlc (free to me since I have a crap-load of free MS points), even more awesome.

Even though i have both consoles, now no option has been given to me, and now apparently the game was cut short 6 hours on the $60 disc so i could buy them $10 each as DLC -_-
If you are going to release a game on both consoles, release the same damn DLC. Go full exclusive or GTFO with this shit
Yeah, but we don't know the 360 version won't have the same amount of exclusive DLC.Originally Posted by klee123

All Tomb Raider games have been rentals IMO.Originally Posted by painey
what a joke. I was going to buy this for 360 but they can get fucked if they think they are going to get my money twice to play the full game. I'll rent or buy 2nd hand.
This is trend is one of worst things ever to come out of gaming this generation.

Its the unfortunate cost of the HD Era. Games are too expensive to be full exclusive. At least with the current installed bases. This way third partys get 1.The benefits of both install bases by multiplataform support and 2.the benefits of an exclusivity deal with the manufacturer. Maybe not as much incentive as a full exclusive but Microsoft and Sony are still paying the publisher money for this content and 3.the extra income of dlc sales.

That's the rumor, but I believe microsoft have their agents working deals in the background on this. I do not doubt microsoft will either get the DLC later OR get exclusive DLC themselves.
EA basically said no comment. So I would say, not really. Not to say the 360 version could not see some exclusive content, but since Sony has readily admitted they have a marketing deal in place for it I wouldn't bet on it at this point.Originally Posted by Nafai1123

Also I have heard Bioshock for PS3 as well.Originally Posted by klee123

I think it is stupid as well.

That was false apparently (thank goodness). I really would prefer a full out exclusive or none at all. Fragmenting a game before it's even released is really bewildering to me as well as unfortunate.Originally Posted by klee123

Hopefully exclusive 360 also means PC, probably not :(
DICE confirmed in 1up's week long ME feature that there would be exclusive DLC for the PS3. They'll also have additional DLC that'll be released on all 3 platforms.Originally Posted by neojubei

Wouldn't surprise me if PC gets it as well and this game becomes the latest GFW Live title.Originally Posted by Teetris

I will probably still buy it when it hits the $20 bargain bin though.
Yep. Ignoring potential PS3 customers is the right thing to do in that situation.Originally Posted by carlosp
Exclusive DLC for 360 because the whole game didnt fit on a DVD9 maybe :lol

As I thought. EA's basic no comment we have nothing to announce at this point talk essentially confirmed it.
I had forgotten this game was coming out. Probably a good move for CD to go with this kind of setup. Not necessarily from the MS investment, but the free publicity just worked on me.
I'll still be playing fallout though.
Why don't these tardcart companies take a lesson from Criterion and put out free, substantial DLC?
Keep crying though.
LOL. You may get in trouble. But on a serious note, thats why Gears is getting a handful of "extra" free maps day one supposedly.Originally Posted by carlosp

Sure, give it to me for free then kthnxOriginally Posted by Paco
Any of the whiners in here stop to think that the additional content simply doesn't fit within the scheduled timeframe to launch the game? It's also rather silly to assume it's not a full game, especially when they specifically say they will be vastly different experiences to the main game.
Keep crying though.
