GI November cover - Dragon Age Origins #1

http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Sto...1803.54149.htm

Quote:
If you’ve been paying attention to the world of RPGs over the past decade, you probably couldn’t help but notice the name BioWare. From Baldur’s Gate to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to Mass Effect, the developer has been behind some of the most acclaimed and memorable RPG experiences in recent memory. Their latest, Dragon Age Origins, continues their tradition of melding mature themes, compelling stories and addicting gameplay, and we’ve got exclusive details on it—including the skinny on the console editions of the game.

As if that’s not enough, the November issue also has an exclusive 10-page look at Valve Software, filled with behind-the-scenes info and details on Left 4 Dead. Also, we chat with Braid creator Jonathan Blow on his newfound fame and what he has in store for us in his next game.

Check out these stories and much, much more in the November issue of Game Informer Magazine.

Kind of a disappointing cover to be honest. GI usually brings the exclusives.

Like, three years ago I was pretty hyped about this game. Now, it just strikes me as yet another data point to watch Biowares slide into mediocrity.

You don't expect that developers should announce every month a new game.

BTW this magazine has the reviews of gears of war 2 and resistance 2 probably.

Not very interested in Dragon Age Origin, just wanted to say it's awesome that an indie XBLA game/developer made the cover of GI. These types of games almost never get any coverage or mention in magazines.

Sweet sweet Bioware.

Those of you bitching about their fall from greatness need to accept the fact that they're never going to remake BG2. Accept it and move on.

I have, that's why I don't expect anymore great RPG's out of Bioware. But who says I can't play their mediocre ones?

I hope the console version of Dragon Age come out soon after the PC version. I'd normally prefer the PC version, but my current PC is ass and I won't have the money for awhile to upgrade to anything decent.

By the way, the 'exclusive console version talk' will likely be then reconfirming that there will be a console port at some stage.

my hope for that died as soon as 'origins' was confirmed.

Black Isle didn't go on to remake Fallout or Fallout 2 either, but a bunch of the people involved did make Arcanum and NWN2's excellent expansion.

Back in the day Black Isle and Bioware held their own in a discussion with Blizzard as excellent PC devs. Now Black Isle is scattered to the wind, Bioware is turning out the western equivalent of Tales games (solid but unspectacular) and Blizzard keeps rolling out the hits.

The Witcher was better than anything Bioware has made recently.

So what's Mass Effect? Chopped liver?

I mean sure, it's no Planescape Torment but hey, it beats 99% of the console RPG offerings out there.

It says PS3 and 360 versions late 2009, with a couple of screenshots of the 360 version.

Mass Effect is a bad RPG tacked on to a bad shooter, with story that's "good for a video game". It's not an accomplishment I'd praise and only further cements Bioware's fall from grace when compared to it's competitors or Bioware's own past games.

Console Bioware > PC Bioware

Mass Effect > Baldur's Date

Jagged little pill for the PC faithful, but the sooner you choke it down, the sooner you can move on and enjoy quality Console Bioware fare like Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood.

Well I would imagine game developers would love to snatch up the talent in troika, but unfortunately I doubt it will be as good as the original Troika days. They had bug problems, that's undeniable, but the underlying gameplay was in my eyes some of the best RPG fare I've ever played. Arcanum's use of the SPECIAL system I actually enjoyed much more than the fallout series.

I'm glad to see obsidian picked up the loose talent from troika. I'm a tad ashamed to admit according to their website I've never played any of their games. I'll now keep an eye on alpha protocol though as well as put NWN2 on my giant "games to play on the new pc list".

Yeah, in today's terms I think of Obsidian as the creators of Baldur's Gate moreso than Bioware. Unfortunately, the enthusiast presss doesn't seem quite as enamored with Obsidian for whatever reason (lack of advertising dollars, I assume). That being said, I am cautiously optimistic regarding Dragon Age.

I noticed when I googled them. I'm not a big aliens fan, but if the gameplay is good it could star the care bears for all I care.

now if you visit the obsidian website and look at the games tab, is that not all the games they developed? it seems a little slim

EDIT: I think I may be getting obsidian mixed up with black isle..

man I'm looking at the black isle gameography and man, talk about a solid record.

Mass Effect is hardly a 'bad' game. Then again, some people don't like the Dave Matthews Band so anything is possible. ;)

I'm curious who these amazing competitors are that put BioWare to shame...I'm not playing the right games apparently.

You've gotta be kidding. Baldur's Gate's story was complete bullshit and REALLY boring. Newer Bioware games are ways better in regards to story and writing.
