UK PR:

EUROPE ONLY: PARTY WITH LIPS, NO CORDS ATTACHED!

New Xbox 360TM singing experience includes 40 hit songs spanning party-favourite genres and decades from artists such as Coldplay, Leona Lewis, Radiohead and Nirvana

New exclusive wireless microphones give real on-stage feel

Calling all shower singers, wanna-be rappers, pop princesses and bedroom belters: “Lips”, the highly anticipated singing party game exclusively on Xbox 360, will be hitting stores on 21st November 2008.

Priced at a recommended retail price of £49.99/ €69.99, “Lips” is the only music video game that comes with two wireless motion-sensitive microphones, allowing you the freedom to put your own spin on a song and not trip over any cumbersome wires as you dance around your living room. You can even get other people involved in your songs by having them playing percussion with your Xbox 360 controllers.

The “Lips” line-up features great songs from a wide range of musical genres that set the stage for evenings of fun. Whether you’re throwing a party for your friends or simply staying at home with your family, “Lips” will have everyone singing and dancing together to party favourites, backed by their ORIGINAL music videos, lyrics and scoring.

For those that want to grow their music collection, there will be a whole host of fantastic hits to download from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, giving you the opportunity to continue adding to your “LIPS” music library - up already is Estelle’s “No Substitute Love”. Plus, you can even plug in your MP3 player and sing along to your OWN music collection while a virtual music video accompanies your performance.

It doesn’t stop there. “Lips” also has exciting features like the ability to compete against your friends or family and a co-operative element that allows you to try and crack the song together.

So if you feel like you want to “Bust A Move” or simply want to “Boogie 2 Nite” then “Lips” is simply “Irreplaceable” for a night of unbelievable entertainment in the comfort of your own home!

More information about “Lips”, the hottest party game this Christmas, can be found at http://www.xbox.com/lips.

Judging from the PR, it also seems like the "revolutionary" feature letting you sing songs from your MP3 is more or less the song playing, with a rendered video showing in the background. But hopefully there's more to it than that.

Also, what I guess is the final packaging:

What's there is good, but 40 tracks is a total scam. GH4/RB have 80+ and then DLC, and I really don't see why DVD-based music games should do anything less than max the disc.

I see it as a 40 song track pack bonus in addition to buying those sexy wireless mics.

It was inevitable that the import your own mp3 feature would be gimped. How else could they sell the DLC?

Still, not bad track list. Will probably get this.

PS - I wonder if the wireless mic will work with Rock Band? Would be nice to have a wireless mic instead of wired.

Ace of Base, Roxette and The Cardigans are well known down here (Brazil).

Wait??? There are region versions with different songs?!?

Singstar has 40 tracks on disc, which is the more appropriate comparison. This actually looks good. I might pick it up. IGN reported if you pre-order, you get like 8 free DLC tracks.

Part from the fact it cancels the vocals and amplifies your voice over the music, they also said it can ad lyrics but I dont see how that can work..

Yeah, Singstar works like that, at least here in Scnadinavia. Basically they remove 20 songs, add 5 scandinavian songs, and then release it here. Several versions have only like 20 songs in them, insane.

i think the cardigans song is more likely to be brought over to the states than 'Rome Wasn't Built in a Day'. most Americans have heard of the cardigans, but not Morcheeba ;)

Be careful with the wording of the pre-order bonus. It says you can download them from the Zune Marketplace. So essentially you are getting an MP3 to import into the game. Not actual DLC which would have the lyrics and music video.

Sorry for the bold, just thought this should be made aware. Unless I am wrong.

Bummer! I was actually considering pre-ordering when first reading this... I have Singstar PS3 and Rock Band 360...getting GH World Tour most likely. I don't know if I really need this... we'll see.

Will the mic work for GH and/or RB2?

SingStar games almost always have exactly 30 songs on the disc.

I want to want Lips. If those wireless mics work with Rock Band I'm sold, but I already have a library of over 100 SingStar songs on PS3 and another 90 on PS2 discs, plus Vol. 2 coming out next week.

Not different enough to get me interested.. Not saying it isn't good, and 360 owners or multi-console owners without singstar should definitely give this (or singstar) a look. For me though.. I already have around 60+ songs invested in singstar not to mention a bunch of PS2 discs just waiting for the game update. To get me interested Lips would have either needed to offer major gameplay differences (which it doesn't) or major artistic differences (which it doesn't). This is basically SingStar for the 360, which is fine, unless you already have SingStar for the PS3.

edit - fwiw, I am not blown away by this track list, much like I am not blown away by any of the singstar track lists. are record companies that freaking apprehensive of the industry to consistently hold back their biggest and best songs? of course I know the answer to that

About 90% of the songs have been in one Singstar or another.

What will be more interesting is to see how their Store works out and if certain labels will offer tracks on it or not (especially Universal who haven't been licensing the big hits for the Singstore for one reason or another).
