Tell that to the Nintendo 64 and GameCube :(

And yet it doesn't seem to have bothered Nintendo at all. At their financial meeting they discussed openly the situation. They don't knee-jerk, they just get on with what they want to do. DSi is clearly a part of 'what they want to do' and they must have plans for the SD usage, download store, and permanently installed apps.
Sure, the timing is close to PSP-3000... but isn't that more to do with them both wanting to hit in the run up to the holidays?

Well I do think the decline on sales is mostly to the huge amount of DS already out in the market, so a cap would be reached sooner or later anyway.
But even if Nintendo doesn't say so, it is obvious that they don't want to give out their position as the number one, best selling portable console there.
If Sony ends up first YTD-wise, next year they can use that as a PR-line, and I'm sure Nintendo would be annoyed for it
The DSi is just to keep momentum until the next-gen portable is released in 2+ years
