LPB sold below my expectations (80 - 100k) and far below the 250k predictions some were throwing out two weeks ago.

On the other hand, it doesn't bode well for 200-300k lifetime predictions a few were making for it globally :lol

So I know the "Animal Crossing is the big game" point has already been brought up by several, including me. But I was curious about what Nintendo released in past Octobers, to see if they normally put a big game around that time. Here they are from GBA on, by release date.

Doesn't look like they released anything for Wii on October last year, though SMG came just after. The biggest October game is a Training game with a long-ass title for DS, which started over 200K and is now past 1.5 million. There have been some decently big October titles in the past: Pikmin, Kirby Nightmare in Dream Land, WarioWare Twisted!, and WarioWare Mega Party Games are the tops.

However, for DS most of the stuff is pretty low tier, though I don't imagine they intended Wii Music to follow in their footsteps: Super Princess Peach, Custom Robo Arena, A.S.H., "Tashiten: Tashite 10 ni Suru Monogatari", Literature Collection DS, and that one big training game already mentioned.

Which I thought would be an advantage over Wii Fit, since it's much cheaper.

It's painfully obvious that someone forgot about Animal Crossing.

Wii Music the key holiday game for Nintendo? I think you're the only person who has thought that. Even Nintendo themselves don't think that.

I think you're downplaying the importance of wii music. Have we all forgotten about the huge coverage at the E3 and more? But I agree that wii music doesn't care the burden only. Together with AC wii and whenever wii resort comes out, they are considered the keyplayers for this christmas and begin next year.

as much as i have no interest in the slightest in LBP, im surprised how low those figures are, GTA4 360 nearly sold as many as LBP (ex bundle)

When's hardware data coming? Also, is there a reason why the 360 HW numbers are xx,xxx and the PS3 are x,xxx? Someone knows something we don't?

Decent LBP sales given the low expectations I had for it in Japan.

I just hope it has some legs.

Does the 52k count the PS3 bundles?
Seeing how Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III is on 30th place in the Media Create list, while GT5P Spec III is in the top 10 on the Famitsu list, i would assume that Media Create doesnt include the bundles while Famitsu does.

This makes me wonder if the PS3 LBP bundle didnt sell that good. If Famitsu includes the PS3 hardware bundle, and if they have LBP at 47k while Media Create has LBP at 56k without the bundle included, i wonder how much the PS3 LBP bundle actually sold.

Maybe he's preparing his predictions for next week? :lol

I don't know why he did that but I expect PS3 to be about 40k and 360 to be about 7k, MC is only off from Famitsu by a few thousand or hundred units most of the time.

Is the GT5 bundle through the holidays only?

It might be Sony's only opportunity to sneak a million seller into its Japanese catalog before FFXIII. :lol
There's no indication when the bundle will end, but they do say it's a limited run. I assume it's just going to be a holiday thing. I can't see them shifting a million this way though. Perhaps if they include all the downloads and BD versions from GT5p, spec II and spec III they might get close.

Dengeki also counts bundled GT5P Spec III, ranking #5 with 37,868 units, PS3 hardware sales being 45,094, Wii 23,210 (crossing 7m) and 360 7,349 over PS2 6,804. DS all models combined at 189,783 with PSP down to 52,816. DS sell through reached 90% it seems.

Good week for PS3 it looks like. Although LBP sales look a little weak. Didn't both Vesperia and IU do better than it? Was thinking that with an install base of 4x the 360 LBP would do better.

I doubt you really feel this way or you would post this same message every week a Wii game is released.

LPB do better than ToV and IU(square enix)?:lol

You're good at what you do. So subtle. ;)

You're really not suggesting that 360 games should be able to hold their own against PS3 games are you?

What's the installed base now, 2.5m vs 0.7m?

Elios83 (if you are reading this), amazon has Naruto PS3 on January 15th, although I dunno if its just a placeholder or if its right. The cover looks legit though:

7800 yen :/

I'm going to have to extend holidays lineup well into January at this rate, RIZ ZOAWD, Crystal Chronicles, Devil Survivor, Naruto PS3, Atelier Annie, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, some other western titles hitting PS3 late, idolmaster PSP, Tales of the World RM2, Fragile, Haruhi...

And February off to be good too with Star Ocean 4, Street Fighter IV...

WiiMusic is still selling well though, it's just not explosive. Also you guys would be idiots not the realize that WiiMusic is an expanded audience title and as such is not subject to the same sales trends as other non-Nintendo games. Haters shouldn't be calling a victory just yet.

I'm a bit confused by all the bundling talk.

Is there a hardware LBP bundle there? As in, PS3 + LBP?

If so, will we be able to figure out how many of those were sold?

Or is it just the DS3 + LBP bundle?

Nice seeing this game. Hope it got some legs.

What's the judgement on this?

Yes, I'm really happy to see VP DS doing so well. Hopefully it will reach the 100k mark.

As for LBP, it's a tough one. On a financial standpoint it's very 'meh'. But if we look at the demographic and what the game wants to offer, it becames unsure wether it's considered a good figure or not. It all depends on the upcoming weeks and its legs are. If say, it breaks the 200k mark, I personally would consider that okay. But if it won't be able to reach above 100k, it will be considered a disappointment. Time will tell, I guess.

well, not including the bundle (ds3 + lbp), its right above gta4 on 360, so im guessing, 10-15k bundles were sold

as for consoles, i dont think GTA4 is a system seller, and those LBP numbers wont have shifted many, but it should beat the 360 after 6 week hiatus lol

Wii Sports was not bundled with anything in Japan. Wii Music is different because it is less of a game than the other Wii titles. It's more of musical toy for the Wii. I don't think anyone expected it to explode out of the box, but it could be one of those titles that sells slowly over time.

I expected more from LBP than I did from Wii Music with the way people were hyping the game. It's sells are far lower than I expected. Was the sell through for it posted?

This week the new 80GB PS3 SKU was released.

At the standard price of 39800, GT5 Spec III is included for free for a ltd time.
At an increased price, there is an LBP bundle with 2xDS3.
Separately to this, there is also an LBP+DS3 bundle.

Well, I'm glad there is some interest in these threads again :lol

Wii Music- it's still early, but I think it is fair to say it doesn't have the immediate appeal that Wii Sports and Wii Fit had. As I've said before, it's really the first FULL PRICED "Wii" series game. Play and Fit had a controller/hardware bundled, and Wii Sports was cheaper than a full priced game (and obviously having immediate appeal as a launch title). I still think it will pick up and still reach 500K, but if I had to guess I would say it won't reach a million.

Animal Crossing is Nintendo's big holiday title and I expect it to do very well.

LBP- I dunno. Did about what I expected. I don't think it will get much higher than a 100K, but it's hard to tell what Sony's true expectations were for the Japanese market.

OK, that clears things up a bit, thanks.

So we won't get a breakdown of those first two bundle sales, will we?

Better for PS3 than I thought- I was expecting 25K or so.

Nintendo has to be a bit worried about Wii hardware. Sales are going down after Wii Music, and last year they were starting to rise. Animal Crossing better be big for them. Not much else coming up for the holiday.

Is it unreasonable to think that LBP could have legs and get several thousand (maybe 2-3k if you want an exact number) a week for years?

Could hardware sales of 6k a week on average support any type of legs for any game?

Edit. The more I think about it, my original question would require WiiPlay like adoption rates, which is impossible.

In Japan I think that's unreasonable.

But we'll see!

In the Media Create ranking GT 5 Prologue Spec III is on #7. Every game after #7 slips one place down because of this. Gpara changed that, too.

What system is this question about? I'm reading it as PS3, and the game you're thinking about is LBP, but PS3's normal level, even this year, wasn't quite 6kish, more like 9kish. This week's bundle (and visible bump) was the whole reason why it slipped below its level in the past few weeks.
With the holidays ahead, it surely won't go that low for a while.
