ITT: Something I've been working on the past few weeks.

A few weeks ago I took a look at my image directories and realized that it was rather unorganized. I basically just saved images in a root folder and didn't bother with any subfolders.
The worst offender was my Natalie Portman folder. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to assume I would have a folder like this. As it stood I had a single folder and any Natalie image I liked would go into it. This made navigating the folder a pain. I would scroll through and see images from photoshoots scattered here and there without any logic. I also had a lot of images from 4chan that had the annoying 123040484895 image name. I decided this was unacceptable and it needed to be remedied So I am remedying this. And here's what I have:  As you can see, I have my Natalie folder. It's currently weighing in at 1.8gigs. It'll get larger as I continue my project.  Going inside we see four subfolders. Photoshoots, Movie stuff, Avatars, and Public. Photoshoots is obviously any magazine photoshoots that she's done over her career. Movie stuff is any images from various movies she's done. Avatars are just a bunch of 90x120 Natalie avatars. Most of which I've already used or am going to use. And Public is all the public appearances she's done. Award shows, movie premieres etc etc.  Going into the Photoshoot folder I have separated it into two categories, 1990-2003 and 2004-2008.  Here we see the 2004-2008 folder. Has a lot of the more recent magazine stuff she's done.  and an example from one of the folders.  This is the Public folder. Separated in to 3 subfolders. This is my work in progress folder as there's still a lot of 2003-2006 sets I haven't saved and I'm still heading back in time.  This being an example of the sets I have in the 2006-2008 folder  Finally the Movie stuff folder. THis is my most scarce folder to be honest. Most of it is just promo photos. I was thinking of getting screen caps, but I decided against it. I just don't think it's really needed. I justified the folder because there's a lot of awesome behind the scenes images from the movie Free Zone. So there you have it. This is what I've been doing for about 3 weeks. Every day or two I'd throw some music on and start saving images. Getting into the Public section is reeeeeeeeeeally time consuming. Each set has around 50-150 images and I manually click each one to save it. On the plus side there's a whole lot high res images. I generally only save the high res ones and skip the low res ones. I also skip sets that only have 1 or 2 images or is just uninteresting. After I finish with Public images I may move on to Private Candids, which are images taken from here day to day life. Only problem is that there's a fuck-ton. This will probably be just an on-going thing that I don't intend to ever really be finished but always in a state of expansion. It's fairly tedious work, but I think it's worth it. I hope you think so too. Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas, Gaf! edit: What i've done so far. 2.2gigs. Split into 10 parts. I have a little compulsion thing where I need to save stuff I like online. I'm the kind of person that downloads the porn from the stream sites before I watch it.
In this case I would rather these images be on MY hard drive than sitting on a server. |
