Umihara Kawase DS - countdown to bughell? #1

http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001OI24Z6

Amazon Japan is listing Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition - Complete Version for the DS to be released on 26th March. Based on the title it's expected that this will be an enhanced port of Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition on the PS1, but considering how fucked up the Shun port to PSP was, will fans will bite? Will this version be plagued with bugs as well? What mysteries and wonders will this hold for Umihara fans? Hang on tight, it's going to be a rollercoaster ride!

Edit: Looks like Genterprise is publishing this instead of MMV. I guess the PSP version left a REALLY bad taste in MMV's mouth as far as Umihara goes.

I never got around to trying the PSP version so this is good news to me.

You'll probably end up sliding the stylus in the direction.

March is still early on in the year. Mistwalker might still have something up their sleeves that could beat it!

I watched a speed run of the PSX version and I sure as fuck was not expecting what popped up at the end.

Seeing as how the PSP version turned out I'll be glad if it's just a port of the SFC game with an added custom level editor and Wifi sharing function. ;)

Shun Second Edition is the PS1 game. It's an expanded version of the same game that the PSP one was a port of. Hopefully since it's under a new publisher, it'll also being ported by a new DEVELOPER. Lolz.

Yeah, I went back to take another look at the post and I noticed the Shun part. :(
Guess I was just overexcited to see another Umihara game...

Should be so easy to make it good especially if it's a port, yet somehow they can't even manage that.

Looks like it's going to combine both PSone versions in one game.

Oh man, was planning on picking up the PSP port, didn't know it was a buggy mess... :(

I guess I'll hold off for this DS version as I still have my SFC copy if I get the itch.

Wasn't the PSP port supposed to come out in the US at one time? Even though it's buggy as hell...

I saw this a few days ago:
Quote:
The story of Umihara Kawase and her grappling hook began over a decade ago on the Super Famicom. Since then, she's made it to a couple of sequels and a remake on the Playstation Portable. The PSP remake had issues with the way the grappling hook worked (the heart and soul of the game) but publisher (株)Genterprise is giving gamers a more accurate rendition that's being supervised by the original series programmer Sakai Kiyoshi.

Good news for all 0 people interested, at least it probably won't be bughell.

I heard they're trying to fix it for the NA release.

Nice, it seems to be just like the PSX title, more than the PSP port, which had a fixed perspective instead of being 2.5D like the original.

I wasn't expecting it any more... Does anyone experienced the DS version ? I gave up on finding a SNES cart for this game (actually, I found one, but it was insanely expensive, several hundred dollars, and I was a bit short on cash), and I'd really want to play it again (I haven't touched this game since someone lent it to me last century)

That is NOT the going rate for the Super Famicom one, probably a good thing you passed (well, who knows about it if its a new copy, as its near impossible to gauge value on something that there's nearly none of)

Not new, but in mint condition (you know how used games can be in Japan, including advertisements, spine cards, everything in perfect shape, etc.) Nice to hear that it was indeed expensive. But on the other hand, I've not managed to find a single copy beside this one in several months lurking in all used game shops in Tokyo.

Umihara Kawase for SFC goes for around Y3000-Y10000 on YAJ depending on completeness.

This was around six months ago, and there aren't any listed at the moment except for one in a lot with some shitty games, so it could have changed.

I was in Japan for around a week at the start of October and saw a sign for Umihara DS and got excited. Then I realized it was to reserve your copy due in at the end of the month! Man! If it came out just a few weeks earlier, it would have been mine! :( Ah well...

My friend bought me the PSP version for my birthday last year.

I love this series. I picked up a promo poster years ago at Mandarake for the Shun release and tried to find it to bring to Japan with me. I've e-mailed Toshinobu Kondo before (after finding his website) and I was hoping to find the poster, meet up with him and get him to sign it. Never found it and we ended up being on the go non-stop the whole trip. Only met up with one friend!
