New Fight Night Round 4 info from Game Informer
#1
* The game features at least a dozen venues from around the world. They are more built than previous titles. This includes more activity around the apron during a fight.
* Fighters confirmed so far Tyson, ali, Lennox Lewis, sugar Ray, Winky Wright, Sergio Mora and Emanuel Augustus (plz Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Lopez) *The strength of a punch is no longer how far back you pull the analog stick, but how cleanly you make contact. *if your in close to your opponent and don’t get full arm extension, the power behind your punches are weakened. *Boxers now have more hit zones in their faces, and different punches will have different effects depending on where they land. *Blocking now has a meter, this meter decays over time, your overall risk increases as the meter decreases. Punches can break through your guard and your arms can be knocked out the way (like Pacman did to De La Hoya) much easier as your opponent works your defense.(shows picture of Ali breaking threw Tyson’s upper block in between gloves with an extended left uppercut) * Due to physics system reduces the power of punches when a boxers arms aren’t fully extended (picture shows Tyson smothering Ali on the inside) * Fight Nights new physics system is better suited to providing more realistic outcomes during the moment to moment flow of two boxers constantly trading punches *Taking cuts to the face ( I won many fights on cuts) is not about your health meter, the strength of the punch and how directly it lands on your face are more important *When Tyson is throwing a punch at your head, don’t try and slap it out of air (referring to R3’s parrying system) *40 licensed boxers, introduces more height and body (like Tyson being small for good inside, and taller Ali being better on outside). Thus, long armed fighters perform better if they stick and move, while shorter boxers like Tyson want to pummel you from close range, negating the advantage of the opponents longer arms. *The parry system of old has been done away with. "You won't want to be attempting to parry one of Tyson's hooks." Taller boxers with longer arms will be expected to jab and move, while shorter guys like a Tyson will try to work inside. *Another note would be the removal of maneuvering the thumb-stick in between rounds to work on cuts etc. Cut work and the like will be worked on by a points system being applied to your boxer. You'll choose from the bank of points you have accumulated and apply them where you see fit. *Our goal with FN4 audio, is to enhance the gameplay experience by reflecting the emotion and excitement that is heard in a real life boxing match. Like much of the rest of the game, we’re building the audio from the ground up and have a load of new audio features for Fn4. This time around, FN4 will feature a 2-man commentary team (talent to be announced)that will bring a whole new level of intelligence and analysis to the game. *The crowd will accurately reflect the size of the venue and respond to the action going on in the ring. There are several cool new features with music, and we are also filling out the soundtrack with a wider variety of music that will get the player in the “boxing” headspace from the get go *One of EA Dev had this to say " I’m a big fight fan, so I am aware that part of that big fight experience, is the lead up to the fight, the stoppages and the scenes after a big fight has been won. In FN4 the cutscenes will accurately and authentically reflect that experience seen on TV; we have them all and they are looking tight! And when I say authentic- Ali won’t be doing the “running man” during his ring walk entrance!" *"Here's one for authenticity in our NIS (non-interactive sequences), we've got Tyson sporting the towel during his entrance in the game as well as providing our fans the chance to customize your own robes. What do you want yours to look like?" http://fightnightnation.ning.com/for...-night-round-4 Sounds like the FNR3 parry system is OUT! Very good news about the blocking. Hopefully we'll get some more info from the article, and maybe some new screens. Last edited by VindicatorZ : 01-21-2009 at 10:30 PM. |

I don't know if I like the change to the cutman system... but maybe it is for the better. I like that the Parry is gone...
I definitely like the more realism and physics based stuff. Since Fight Night 3 is not worth much, I'll probably just hang on to it for nostalgia sakes and for the roster (I doubt de la hoya will be in FN4, as well as some of the flyweights like Morales). I don't think FN4 is going to hit until probably June/July/August anyway. Is any of the old team working on this game at all? I know Kudo is gone, but was wondering about other guys. I'll be worried if it is a totally new team. |

I really enjoyed the cut-man system from FNR3. I can see tweaking it a bit, but I am not sure why they would change it completely. Direct interactivity feels more in the spirit of the gameplay over assigning points and I do not recall anyone complaining about the old system. All of the other changes sound great though. Lets hope they work on adding more depth to the career mode which was pretty bare bones in the last Fight Night.

A blocking meter? Bah, one of the best things about FN3 was that there weren't any HUDs or bars or whatever. Still looking forward to the demo, though.

No parrying huh? Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see how that works out, long as all the fights don't turn into jabfests.

No parry? Well lets just hope they manage to keep the balance in there I don't want it to be slug fests and whilst they cant dynamically recreate the movement and methods to get round someone when you are boxing, the parries were a good middle ground. still day 1 though

Well for those who think that FNRND3 has no HUD, I'm sorry but that was a lie by the developer. If you go to the settings you will find the option to "Turn on HUD" The entire game is based on this HUD meter, it was just invisible and disguised, so that they could hype how you need to read your boxers expressions to tell his health. In reality, playing online for years, it's very helpful to have the HUD. It lets you know exactly how much health you and your opponent have left.
As for the blocking meter, this is FANTASTIC, trust me. I would hope that this meter is invisible though, as I don't see how it is necessary to have it on screen. You can slowly see that if you just keep blocking, some punches will go through, simple. Many people online exploit RND3 in that they can simply turtle up and block, and you CANNOT hit them, no matter what. There is a sweet spot, and some people will exploit it the entire fight and just sit there and you cannot hit them. The blocking meter will now let you tear them to shreds just like in real life. ![]() |

Cant wait - FNR3 is still awesome. I hope we get to see the full list of boxers soon and I hope the CAB mode is expanded on (specifically give me more letters for the names!). They need to have Mayweather, Pacquiao, Hatton, Margharito, Barrera, Marquez, Calzhaghe, Pavlik, Calderon, etc.
I also hope the training is far improved. I wish they could somehow implement an overlay type 'show' that was similar to HBO's 24/7 into the training when you get a main event fight. |

I'm absolutely stoked for this game! My roommate used to kick my ass constantly with parry/counter but it was still a blast to play and try to go for the big knockout.
This is one of the few games I can recall where I consistently sucked and still managed to enjoy myself every time! ![]() |

I wonder if they will put in some calzaghe style point whoring that seemingly a couple over the hill pugilists are fond of adopting these days.
Details like that was something EA Chicago was really good at picking out. I haven't seen EA Canada really display that type of passion with anything. At least outside of the visuals sphere. |

These truly sound like fantastic changes, like they're really trying to push this in the right direction. Very excited to see the results.

any chance you'll be able to use face buttons for punches? They had the option for hit stick or face buttons in the first one, but I think they went analog stick only on the second or third one.
I really hate using the analog stick. Don't hate me, just give me options. |

I use primarily face buttons as well, I use the analog stick for strong counters and haymakers, but I feel more comfortable throwing combos with the buttons, the analog stick just annoys me. I'm pretty sure they will have multiple configurations just like Round 3.

game definately needs an overhaul from the last one, but even if it played the same Tyson's presence would tempt me to pick it up. Here's hoping its faster, controls smoother and more responsive and not as clunky as the last game.

Just to let all you guys know once more cause I can.... None of you ever beat the champ at Fight Night 3 when we had the GAF tourney.
I still got the muthafucking belt! I don't think Kinesis, Flo Evans, JuanMR2 and some others ever recovered to make it back in the ring! |
