Mercury found in HFCS products #1

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy released a report that a bunch of common household products containing high fructose corn syrup also have mercury.

Here is the Washington Post article

Quote:
Almost half of tested samples of commercial high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained mercury, which was also found in nearly a third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first- or second-highest labeled ingredient, according to two new U.S. studies.

Here is the pdf table of their findings

So time to freak out? All the found mercury is parts per trillion. I'm thinking drinking water might even have more than that. Still, HFCS sucks.

Sounds like a "half glass full" interpretation.

I mean, check it out. The presence of large amounts of high fructose corn syrup gives you better than a 2/3 chance of mercury safety!

The EPA says the maximum for drinking water is 2 ppb. That would be like 6 bowls of oatmeal or 30 cokes. Should be okay. I think this is more a complaint on how HFCS is made, by using caustic soda which has traces of mercury. HFCS can easily be made without caustic soda.

Well thank goodness that stuff is cleared out of the human body mighty fast. I mean imagine if it hung around for a long fucking time. Huge periods of slowly ingesting it and it building up, I mean, just think.

Thank God I just about banned the stuff. So fucking horrible.
