Dragon Quest 9 delayed to July

I felt like this deserved a new thread, since people aren't always checking the info thread.
It's been delayed from March 28 to July 11.

Ugh. This sucks for all those other companies who delayed their games till Summer to avoid being steamrolled by Dragon Quest. Great stuff. Now March/April will be a wasteland in Japan.

We already know Square Enix delayed their financial report by a week though. And the most likely cause of that would be a delay of DQIX and now we "had" this report....

I think 7 and 8 had delays, don't really remember though.

This was bound to happen. They put a date on it way too early, trying to sneak it out before the end of the fiscal year. At least I have time to play through SO4 before it comes out now.

If it really is delayed, I wouldn't be surprised. The multiplayer in the Jump Festa demo was crazy buggy. I've never seen local DS multiplayer play so choppy.

They scrapped seven from completion at least once, maybe twice.

It was going to be an early PSX title, and ended up being one of the last major releases!

Eight was also delayed a bunch, but not legendarily so.

I'm torn. Yes, I wanted to play it soon but with the backlog I have, I don't feel that terrible about it. I kinda feel terrible for not feeling terrible, though.

SE didn't make the decision to put the game on the DS until a couple of years ago. DQ always goes to the lead console (handheld now) of the generation. No way to know that in 2004.

DQ7 was also released 5 years after DQ6...and it still had some of the worst graphics seen on PlayStation when it was released.

True, but I'm assuming they at least were doing a lot of pre-production on this while they were still deciding.

Though you could debate if that's true development or not.

Silver lining: DQ6 might come out first then. Though I'm worried since there aren't any screens released. I'd rather play that, then 9 so I'm all caught up on the series.

Level 5 have their own productions to worry about, just reconsider how many titles they have developed and published within the past years since DQVIII.

As for pre-production, Horii works in mysterious ways. He could spend 10 years creating a scenario for Dragon Quest X and I wouldn't cry over it because at least I will experience it one day. Life is short but it isn't that short.

Downsizing from a console release to the DS, they probably had to trash everything and start from scratch. I bet that back in late 2004-early 2005, never in their wildest dreams did they think that they were going to put their mainline DQ game on a portable. And the DS, no less.

Ummm...no? DQ6r isn't going to be magically announced and released within a 3 month period. Especially since it's a faaaaaar bigger deal than 4/5 on the DS since 6 has never had a nice remake yet.

This is a very legitimate point. FFIII suffered delays/limits in printing due to the run up to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.

The official reason is that there's a/some massive bug(s) in the game. Who knows if that's the real reason.
