How do I updated PSP? #1

My friend let me borrow his PSP, and since he'll be going away for a while I'll get to hold on to it during this time. The only games he has are War of the Lions and Hot Shots Golf, so I went out today and bought two new games, one of which being DJ Max. So I get home and pop DJ Max into the PSP and notice that it needs to be charged. I guess the battery died on its own after just a few weeks of sitting on my dresser. Whatever. I hook up the adapter and then get ready for some rhythm game goodness, when suddenly it tells me I need to update the firmware. Okay. As I go to update the firmware it gives me this message about the battery being too low to update the firmware. Wow, really?

Even though I have it plugged directly into the power outlet I don't have enough power to update the firmware? Now I have to sit and wait for the thing to charge before I can even play my game. At this point I'm just glad I didn't buy one myself like I was going to. What a piece of shit.

Its not 'complete garbage'. But it is a little stupid that Sony did it that way though. I learned this first hand last year which pissed me off so bad cause I had to wait like an hour before I could play a game and by that point I already lost interest and started playing my DS.:lol

Don't update the firmware yet!

Get a CFW for it, much better and with a lot of advantages!

Well known fact for quite some time (not the thread title, the fact that the battery needs a good amount of charge to update the firmware)...

Well, seeing how bent out of shape you got over something as trivial as charging a battery, I can only imagine how you'd have reacted if your PSP bricked after it powered down due to the battery dying in the middle of a firmware update.

That's why you need sufficient battery power.

If you took out the power cable, and the PSP died during a firmware update, the console could be damaged.

Sony implemented this feature so dumb fucks like you can't break their friend's system.

...
The battery charge requirement is a safety precaution.

If you say, stupidly unplugged it during the update it would brick the device without battery reserve.

Then you would be so upset you might create a post on NeoGAF saying something like "The PSP is complete garbage"...

Oh wait a second... You've already done that!

I just can't get past the fact War of the Lions and Hot Shots Golf were not enough. Those are pretty much my two favorite games for the system.

Why wasn't the PSP charged in the first place? I mean, if you're not playing it, it should be plugged up to a charger. I never get how people can't do a FW update, or don't keep up to date on them. They're always announced on the blog, and it's been that way for a while. The last update was before Christmas, so that means you haven't turned it on since pre-christmas yet it's Sony's fault that you need to update it? It should have already been charged, and you should have checked to see the firmware, and if there was a new one out.

Not to rail on the OP, but this way of thinking is very weird. If you don't turn on any system for a month or two, do you expect the system to be fully updated? They come out all the time and we must constantly update. This isn't a problem if you regularly take a minute (literally) to check for the newest update.

Any console can be rendered useless during a FW update. Unplug your PS3, 360 or Wii during an update and see if it still works.

The battery check was actually added in an early firmware update because of people bricking their PSPs.
I've no idea why it needs to be so high though.

So what happens if you have a power outage and your PSP doesn't make it through the fw installation? It will be left without an OS, and will be bricked. Sony would then get thousands of calls from people this happens to, having to receive, fix and resend the PSPs to the original owners.

Or, require the PSP has some juice. A safety precaution. Boo hoo.
