Square Enix USA removing voice from Valkyrie Profile DS Confirmed #1

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genme...topic=48265697

triAce_fanboy is legit. iirc the Cheripa event was indeed voice acted, the english vid of that scene doesn't have any voice.

Are they removing the VA from all story scenes? No sale if true.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVaZrd2RWJw

that's the scene I'm talking about.

I believe he'd rather they replaced the Japanese voices with English voices, instead of removing them.

I heard they're going to make the game $10 more expensive than most other DS games to pay for the cost of cutting stuff.

What's the word on this game anyway? I know it's some type of iso-srpg battle system or something. Anybody actually play through the Japanese version yet?

It's hard to really draw a conclusion based just on a video. I guess we'll see when the game is out for reals.

Not really a big loss, and the story isn't a big reason to play the game. Maybe they don't think the game is going to make the sort of money that warrants hiring all new VA? It probably isn't.

As for the game itself: personally I liked it, it's short but has a lot of branching paths. The battle system is completely unique and the game is very challenging in places if you try to play the good path. One battle was memorably cheap, but other than that, the game was quite good.

Certainly one of the more interesting SRPGs on the DS.

It's lame because the dialog in that scene seems pretty nice, would've liked for it to be voiced :(

Given the choice, I'd take Japanese voices. I left the voice in Mana Khemia in Japanese because it had more of it than the dub. NIS screwed that up with Ar Tonelico 2, though.

I agree with this as in all honesty I would prefer any voice acting rather then nothing in fact if they could give me a Thermian language version I would prefer that over the alternative.

Fair to me. The cost of cutting features away isn't zero, so they need to recoup it somehow.

There is only one, and those are one in the same: Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume.

If they really did take out the voices and didn't bother to put back in English voices, I'll just stick with only my Japanese copy. S-E is on a roll with screwing up tri-Ace games lately.

To me.

YMMV I guess.

:S

But do give it a go for the battle system. I really don't think the VA is that big a loss.

I can deal with them removing voices from story scenes as long as the battle chatter is still there. Without that it doesn't feel like a VP/tri-Ace game at all.

This is pretty sucky. Knowing they cut the party talk feature from DQIV is one of the reasons I was pushed away from the game (not that removing the VA is as big as this but it still sucks).

Capcom did the same with MMZX if I recall correctly but I'm surprised to see it happening in a SE game.

Wait, they really removed party talk in DQIV ??
For what reason ? :/

I didn't know it was a future of the japanese version, but after DQVIII (which was my first DQ) I was a bit lost without the party talk. I thought it was a feature of the later games in the series.

It was a feature in the Japanese version of the DQIV DS remake but it was removed in the western localizations. They've kept it for DQV DS though.

Yup. And I'm so used to SE's games having top notch production values that it feels weird to see this sort of stuff. :/

It doesn't matter how we personally feel about voice acting, it's all about removing content and having less options. The ideal scenario for any game (when possible) is having both Japanese and English VA + the option to turn them off.

I know. I'm not saying that content should be removed... It's just that VA was never the big deal people made it out to be, and ultimately hurt more than helped. Mostly with rpgs, of course.
