We already know the game will probably stay true to what made the original so much fun (charm, easy to pick up controls, fun characters, etc) - so beyond that, just make sure the gestures work. Do whatever it takes, just make 'em work better than they do in the Wii's other boxing efforts.

Wii Fit's boxing exercises prove that it can be done pretty accurately, so build on that.

I'm hoping they build the game for a sophisticated dual M+ use AND for a classic buttons only style Punch Out! I really like the visual style. Definitely hyped, day 1 purchase.

I find it hard to get hyped for a game that's just around the corner that I know absolutely nothing about. Good work Nintendo.

I'm personally super psyched for this game. I poured untold amounts of hours into Punch Out and Super Punch Out. Bring it on!

I'm interested, but it's nostalgia rather than expecting a truly amazing title. From what we've seen, it might have been better as a Wiiware download. Unless it's packed with features. I hope it features unlockable Nintendo cameos aside from the main Punch Out cast. Ganondorf would be great ;D

Also, this needs to be done in the Mag Ad thread.

The trailer showed Little Mac knocking the croissants out of Glass Joe...

Anyway I`m cautiously optimistic, the trailer looked (and sounded!) great but NCL isn`t making the game, Next Level Games is. Strikers Charged was great and a real sleeper hit but the old Punchout games are on a different level really. I don`t know if NLG can live up to the original games...

Also, pineapples for King Hippo.

May I just say that I feel a little uncomfortable from the extent to which offensive ethnic visual jokes determine my interest in the game? I will not buy this unless we get a bishonen Japanese guy.

007-373-5963 fuck yeah!

in a related story, cops pulled a friend and i over while we were out of town. being that i didn't have my ID on me one of the cops asked me for my social security number. yup, out comes the mike tyson code. i didn't even notice until i was damn near finished saying it. needless to say the cop didn't play a lot of punch-out!!! as a kid because he was NOT amused. called me a bitch, asked for my real social and then held us up for about an hour until he was absolutely convinced i was who i said i was. pretty funny in hindsight but at the time i thought they were going to try to pin some unsolved murders on me.

so yeah, i fucking love PO!!! all of them. can't wait for the Wii version.

Miyamoto did say he had some type of supervisory role for this game. Although I'm pretty sure he had nothing to do with the arcade, NES, or SNES games.

Actually if this is the case I'll be a little let down. Mike Tyson Punch-Out!! is one of my 5 favorite games ever, and is one of the most perfect "pure" games I've ever played. I can pick it up and play through it over and over (and have done so every couple weeks the last few months). Super Punch-Out!! was a tremendous disappointment to me when I first played it. It was a great game, don't get me wrong, but it was no MTPO.

Honestly, I'm both terribly excited and terribly concerned about this game. I can't think of another game I'm more excited to play this year... but I can't think of another game that has the potential to let me down as much as this could. I've been waiting for freaking ever like most of you. I'd hate to see Nintendo try to cater this to a bunch of people who've never played the original games. I'm scared to death of this being Wii Boxing with great art or something.

Please give me standard controls, Nintendo. Please keep the gameplay fast, simple, pattern/rhythm-based, and worth coming back to.

God, we need some preview builds to go out or something.

I've played Punch-Out on NES and Wii Boxing and I actually agree with him. Wii Boxing was a fun game, but not accurate enough for Punch-out like gameplay.

I'd settle for a:
"swing left right to dodge"
"press 1 or 2 to punch"

NES-style control scheme.

Did we ever get confirmation if this was a remake of the NES Punchout, or a new game containing only 'some' of the old boxers?

It would be awesome if there were hidden Nintendo cameo boxers in the game.... Ganondorf, Bowser,.........REGGIE??????????????

I hope there's a traditional no-waggle control option. Sometimes I just can't stand the "new" generation...

Also... why the un-Google friendly name? Just "Punch-Out!!"?

Kind of hard to feel hyped about something we know almost nothing about, and have seen/heard even less of.

I hope it has the simple, pattern-based magic of the first two games. Nintendo's outsourced iterations have been hit-or-miss.

um...Punch Out Wii?

I'm a little worried about his game.

1. I read that its a remake. I dont understand the need to remake a simple game like Punch Out.

2. I wish it were made by Nintendo and was a true Super Punch Out sequel with new characters.

PO!! is a pretty simple game. High and low lefts and rights. Duck and dodge to the sides. And star power. That's how it should be. I don't see how motion controls will be of any point for such a game. Wiimote on the side would be perfect.

To play Nintendo games. I've defended motion controls and am fine with them in basically all cases. However, the nature of the Punch-Out!! gameplay does not lend itself well to motion controls as they are today. Even with Motion+ and the Balance Board or whatever, I do not think that you could have fast, accurate enough controls for the precise, rhythm-like timing required for Punch-Out!!

box art is really bad. I already wasn't a fan of the style shown in the trailer, but this looks even worse. Hopefully the gameplay is solid, though, I don't think it will be as good as Hajime no Ippo GBA.

Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!! are two of my all-time favourites, please Nintendo don't screw this up!

Oh! anyone else ever play Wade Hixon's Counter Punch on GBA? It was pretty sweet as I recall.

If the dodge/block controls were mapped to buttons or the D-pad, I think it would work pretty well. Most of the really precise timing in Punch-Out!! was needed for dodging and blocking, leaving you a pretty large window to counter-punch.

Not sure, but I don't really see a reason for it to have been translated; Ippo GBA was pretty much a straight forward arcade game that took Punch Out gameplay and added fighting game like depth for the better.

It might have been a translation of the menus or some such. I don't recall.

Decent game with awesome graphics held back by half-assed gameplay. You could win against all enemies by basically using the same exact patterns again and again. It feel un-refined and unfinished, in that sense.

I have no idea how sensitive the BB is but I would think the "feel" would have to be a lot more forgiving than the previous two games. Punch-Out!! is almost as unplayable as a rhythm game on LCDs with video lag.
