I have just moved house at upgraded my 720p set for a 1080p one for my games room.

Google is letting my down with a up to date list of native 1080p games so I can check to see if I can see any difference.

Can you help guys?

A lot of downloadable games (at least the sprite based ones) should be done in 1080p.

Yeah just checking Eden now, I can really see a difference (or at least my brain is telling me so.)

Will check Wipeout HD now.

Someone said Portal on XBLA but I can't see it on that one.

Also need to have a look at the game mode on the TV to see what that does.

Something to be wary about.

Some games proclaim 1080p but while not incorrect, this often refers to the vertical resolution only.
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is 1080p but it's actually natively rendered at 1280x1080p and not 1920x1080p (still, it's pushing out more pixels than most games).
The 1280 horizontal resolution is scaled by hardware to 1920 after rendering.

This has nothing to do with native rendering.

Pretty good. So WipEout HD runs in true 1920x1080p in periods then.

Not exactly, but it has a dynamic 1080p framebuffer. Not 1920x1080p all the time, but it never goes down to 720p. Unless you're running it at that resolution, that is.

I assume it's an LCD, the game mode will basically turn off a lot of the TV's filters and internal post processing that it does to give you a more direct feed from the console and reduce input lag.

Man checked out Eden, Wipeout HD, and Geo Wars 2.

Its not as big as a jump from SD to 720p but man 1080p looks great, I;ve been getting as close as I can to the TV while playing too, really messed up my Geo Wars 2 game :lol

I think it's half just having a new tv just for gaming, got one with hardly any lag time, fast refresh etc and it's like I have a new system.

Now to work out this game mode, get the surround sound set up and play some games today.

Any other guys make the jump from 720p - 1080p and have anything that stood out?

I wonder if Flower is 1080p. It probably is above 720p, so maybe 1280x1080 or 1920x1080.

I know Superstardust HD is 1280x1080 and it looks pretty amazing on a 1080p TV.

Ridge Racer 7 is the showpiece you want for a PS3 hooked upto a 1080p TV, looks stunning running at full 1080p/60hz.

Whilst Full Auto 2 does actually run at 1080p with 4xmsaa, it, really, really shouldn't, runs at about 10 fps most of the time and is unplayable in 1080p mode.

Make sure you're screen is 1:1 mapping the 1080p output. Turning "Just Scan" (or simlar) on usually achieves this.

If you're seriously interested in playing games at native 1080p (and who wouldn't be, it can make a huge difference to IQ) then you really need a PC to accomplish it. On the bright side, the $160 GTX 260 (216) copes with 1080p just fine, it'll run most console ports and games of that level at a full 60fps at that resolution even with some aa and plenty af.

I'm assuming that's the PC Full Mode, just turned it on in Killzone 2 and it shows more of the screen. (manuals rubbish).

My 360 is going in through composite so will need to check if it works for that too.

Might have to get my PC to use this as a monitor but for 1080p I guess I have to go with a Digital monitor cable to HDMI (seem to remember standard VGA doesn't support 1080p res)

1080p should work over VGA just fine, used it many times with my Samsung HDTV, heck that's precisely how I get 1080p output to it from my 360. Though you might as well go DVI-HDMI anyway, as you'll get a better image this way in most circumstances, often you can get a marked improvement.

Oh, and yes, "PC full mode" does seem to be right, if you were losing some of the picture before then your TV will have been overscanning the image meaning even though it might have been getting a 1080p image it was still scaling it.

That page doesn't list Flow or Flower, which is too bad as those are the two more popular PSN games.

I know however that Flow does a very particular way of rendering things (4x 720p buffer, scaled down to whatever resolution you're using), so it's definitely native 1080p, and actually even higher than that technically.

Here's post from the developer:

http://www.thatgamecompany.com/forum...8159b317d11246

flOw actually does have some anti-aliasing. It's just implemented in an unusual way.

There are two main types of anti-aliasing available on the current generation of consoles: super-sampled and multi-sampled, often abbreviated as SSAA and MSAA. Both types basically involve rendering the scene at a higher resolution than your intended display resolution, and then shrinking it down before you actually display it. In fact, with SSAA that's exactly what you do. In MSAA, the video card cleverly only renders extra pixels around the areas that tend to have jaggies. There are other, generally subtler, types of aliasing than jaggies, which MSAA doesn't fix, but MSAA tends to be much more efficient than SSAA, and it's the type of anti-aliasing that almost everyone uses.

flOw uses SSAA.

In flOw, we render the entire scene to a 4x720p buffer (1440p), and then shrink it down to whatever resolution you have your PS3 set to. So if you're running in 1080i, you're basically getting 1.777x anti-aliasing (if you examine the screenshot Stew2000 posted very carefully you actually can see a little bit of jaggie smoothing). We didn't use MSAA because you can't directly scale a 4xMSAA 720p buffer to 1080p and we couldn't get full 2x1080p MSAA working in time to ship, for some stupid reason. However, because the scenes in flOw are generally very sparse and we use extremely short fragment shaders and no textures, SSAA isn't that much less efficient than MSAA for us.

No idea about Fower though.

Maybe I should get that cable for my 360 as I'm currently running a component on my none HDMI box, any good deals? is it necessary?

Playing Outrun Online Arcade I noticed that it is much better if I let my TV scale from 720p (setting XMB to 720p and disabling 1080p [and 1080i]) to its native 1920x1080 resolution than if I let 1080p turned on and I let the game scale the output to 1080p before sending it to the TV (Outrun Online Arcade is not 1080p native)... else the IQ, especially the XMB text (in-game XMB), is considerably worse...

Strange...
