The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf canned? #1

There are rumors floating around that the new Witcher for console systems is canned, as the major Polish game-site reports:

http://polygamia.pl/Polygamia/1,9533...kasowany_.html

shitty google translate version: Linky linky

These are currently unconfirmed. Polygamia is trying to contact the developer, CD Projekt, for commentary on the subject.

I'll probably update as soon as something new
on the subject emerges.

Ouch. But if true, those that were interested in the console version can still tap the PC version to show their support (and get a fuck-awesome game at the same time).

Might be getting mixed up with this.

We are very sorry to inform you that because of the enormous interstment in our new project The Witcher: Mysterious Secrets, we had to cancel it. With a heavy heart, I would like to assure you it was a very hard decision for us. We spent a lot of time and work on the project; nevertheless we didn’t have any other choice, given the current circumstances. We hope that you will understand and respect our decision.

CD Projekt RED Team And now let’s be serious. Of course the whole idea of ‘Mysterious Secrets’ was an April Fools’ joke. We hope you enjoyed it and that it at least put a little smile on your face. If not, then we promise that next year we’ll try to do something better Smiley

Because this was posted a few days ago.

It has been a long time since The Witcher was shown on the cover of game magazine. Fortunately, this has changed this week, as our beloved hero is now looking on us with fury in his eyes from the binding of the Polish PSX Extreme.

We'll do all our best to make the game as good as it may be, so that from now on our game will hit the covers way more frequently in Poland and other countries as well!

So I doubt its been canceled, why would it have been on the cover of that magazine, and posted in their forums just a few days ago about it? CD Projekt's way too enthusiastic about this to cancel it, it's going to be a significantly improved version than what already is on the PC.

Probably not. Aprils retardathon was a month ago. Polygamia is a pretty reputable site. They'll either confirm or deny it in the near future.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out... given that a lot of the foundation was already there I would expect it to be a considerably cheaper project than most PS3/360 games. Either something went horribly wrong with development (given CD Projekt's inexperience with consoles it is certainly a possibility) or Atari is running out of funds (again) and trimming their portfolio. Then again it could be nothing of course.

Haven't we seen the new combat system like a month ago? Why would they can the game a month after releasing revelations about it?

I'm doubtful that this rumor will turn out to be true..

Got the Witcher off eBay for 99c and now I'm regretful I didn't pay the full price. It's such a good game. I'll definitely pay for the remake.

I highly, highly recommend the novels, even if you don't care to play the games. This is the next evolution of Eldric and Geralt is here to stay regardless of how good the games are.

A guy who had left CD Projekt less than a month ago said (source - in Polish) that it's probably just a rumor. According to him, the project was going full steam ahead.

If this is true, then to me this news seems like a double edge sword.

On one hand they can focus more so on "The Witcher 2" or a new IP.

On the other less people will be able to enjoy the greatness that is "Wticher".

I doubt this information is going to be true... don't worry console gamers... BUT let me some advise... If you have the chance support CD Projekt NOW and get the PC version, and enjoy the free bonus adventures and MODs, plus the game enjoys better with keyboard and mouse.

Don't wait to play this AWESOME game. Play it now on PC.

Umm yes. Because it will lack the huge amount of Polish gamers that bought it because it was a game made in the universe of an extremely popular Polish book series.

So yeah I kinda have some doubt

Looking at Two Worlds success I´d say there is a huge buying crowd for WRPG´s. If its not too buggy, I´m sure it´ll cross a million easily on PS360.

New engine, supposed to be a lot better than anything possible on the engine used by the PC version, and also a better combat system & animations as well. A bunch of little minor things I'm sure.

Well, one could point to this very thread and say that the interest from GAF on this title shows there's barely any interest in it at all, compared to the typical 20+ page console threads. Even the official forums seem pretty damned slowed compared to Bethesda's forums which get like 10,000 posts a day. It could definitely bomb and not hit hit 1M across consoles, though probably not given how aggressive they seem to want to be in advertising it though.

Which is another reason this whole canned thing makes no sense to me.

Right now it's a rumour, only one site posted this info. If it doesn't spread it could mean bullshit.

I bought the PC version. I loved the whole world and atmosphere... very eery... reminded me of the world in Quest For Glory IV. And I loved that game.

I really want the console version as I bought the PC version after Crysis and could hardly play it because the graphics were... well... lets just say it's not a modern looking PC game.

When I heard they were doing a new one for consoles with updated visuals and added goodness I just couldn't wait.

Might go back and finish the PC version anyways... so awesome!
