Comic Book Day 5/06/2009! Flash Rebirth #2, New Mutants #1, Power Girl #1
#1
It's Monday, and that means a new Comic Book Day thread! Hope you all had a fantastic Free Comic Book Day this past weekend. I enjoyed the hell out of Blackest Night #0, Savage Dragon #148, and the Avengers one-shot. Anywho, enough about last week - here's the list of comics you can look forward to picking up on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009! What'll I be getting?
Amazing Spider-Man #593: The countdown to #600 continues with Part 2 of "24/7!" #592 was a total blast, and I personally can't wait for more. Here's hoping this issue contains 100% less elderly nudity, though. Aunt May ain't built for that kind of stuff. Batman Battle for the Cowl The Network #1: This one-shot tells the story of Batgirl's new team as she tries to ease the chaos now present in Gotham. If you were a fan of the pre-Tomasi Outsiders, this is something you'll want to check out, as this is pretty much what it was building towards. Written by Fabien Nicieza, too. Daredevil Noir #2: Despite basically being Daredevil, but in the 1930's, #1 was pretty good. I gotta say, though, that costume is awful. Sleeveless? Really, Murdock? REALLY? Deadpool #10: Part 1 of "Bullseye!" Now that Magnum Opus is over and done with, Normie's sent the new Hawkeye after the Merc With a Mouth! Despite crossing over with the increasingly mediocre Thunderbolts, I really enjoyed the Daniel Way-written issues of MO. Honestly, this is one of most fun comics on the market today. Destroyer #2: In Part 2 of this 5-issue mini, we see the terminally ill Destroyer going after his rogues gallery. Maybe to patch things up? Well, no, more likely to brutally murder them so that they'll never hurt anyone, ever again. God DAMN, Kirkman. Exiles #2: Exiles #1 was my surprise favorite book the week it came out, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where this is going. I mean, it's got everything - a Scarlet Witch not saddled with Avengers Disassembled, a Beast with bloodlust, and a Black Panther who cracks wise! Love love loving it. Final Crisis Aftermath Run #1: Written by Matt Sturges (Jack of Fables, upcoming JSA issues), this mini deals with the Human Flame trying to get the fuck outta dodge. After becoming infamous as the dude who torched the Martian Manhunter, a lot of people are out to whack this dude. Bummer for him. I'm mostly just curious as to who this whole "Aftermath" thing's gonna get handled. At the very least, we'll have the incredible art of Freddie Williams II to look at. Flash Rebirth #2: Rebirth #1 left a little something to be desired, but there's definitely enough going on to keep me interested in seeing where Johns is going with this. Dot dot dot. Invincible Iron Man #13: AKA The Book Where Everybody's Fucked. Pepper Potts? Caught and imprisoned. Maria Hill? Caught and possibly under mind control? I dunno. Oh, and Tony Stark? Slowly succumbing to mental castration and on the run from the whole fucking planet, it seems. Matt Fraction's really taken it up a notch with these last few issues, and I'm buying it, hook, line, and sinker. Irredeemable #2: I went back and checked this out a couple weeks ago, and I ended up really, really liking it. Go go Mark Waid! Mighty #4: After a kind of disappointing second issue, #3 ended up being one of my favorites the week it came out. Looking forward to more from Tomasi. New Avengers Reunion #3: This mini sucks. There's too much exposition, and honestly, I just don't really care about Mockingbird. But I'll finish it. Because I'm stupid. New Mutants #1: I wasn't going to check this out, originally, but when I saw that Zeb Wells is writing it, I decided to jump in. He's written some really great stuff lately, and I'd be glad to support his (I think) first on-going. Solomon Grundy #3: I know some people have been seeing this as kind of hit-or-miss, but I've been loving it. Last issue we saw the Man Born on a Monday square off against Bizarro. This time? Poison Ivy! Superman World of New Krypton #3: Robinson and Rucka have really been knocking it out of the park on this one. For #3, Supes has to choose between following Zod's orders and doing the right thing (and possibly being branded a trator). Suspense! War of Kings #3: Abnett and Lanning continue their cosmic crossover, with Vulcan getting (predictably) super-pissed, and the Inhumans ready to escalate things. I think I've been enjoying the spin-offs more than the main story itself, but it's still been really solid. Also of note this week: Cable #14, Power Girl #1, The Boys #30, and Seaguy The Slaves of Mickey Eye #2. Covers: ![]() |

Oh shit, my massive childhood love for New Mutants kicked in so hard just looking at that cover.
Magik, Warlock, Cannonball, Sunspot... shit Warlock alone has me. Hope Cypher is there, can't see on that small image. Cypher dying like a chump was freaking devastating to me back when, in the olden days when you opened a new comic book with no possible idea what would happen. ![]() |

Im pretty much broke after this last weekend so Ill be unable to buy comics for a while. However, I do have a ton of unread comics. Does anybody know what else Marcos Martin has worked on? I loved his work on Brand New Day with Waid and Im reading the Dr Strange miniseries written by Vaughn and I love it. But I dont really know what else he has worked on

I'm thinking of dropping all the Dark Reign shit including Dark Avengers, Hawkeye, spiderman and xmen stuff. Good idea? Going through Julys order that was just put up and that month is killing me with all the Blackest Night stuff and i'm trying to keep it low so I can put the first GI Joe trade and the new sweet looking Fables HC on my order. Also did anyone else see they have a copy of Blackest Night 1 listed that comes with a Black Lantern ring?!! Last edited by Ponn01 : 05-06-2009 at 02:23 AM. |

Star where Brand New Day starts in trades, but feel free to read 24/7 books as they arrive, as it's pretty much the launch of the next "phase" of the book.
