Dubstep is great, but I agree you have to look hard to find the good tracks. The genre seems to have hit a bit of mainstream and is getting flooded with loads of similar uninspired wobble tracks. I prefer the more experimental liquid burial-step/2step/future-garage spin-off stuff. Whatever, all these genre names and hybrids are giving me a headache. The names, not the tunes. :P
Some good tunes I've come across lately: Von D - Berlin Call Silkie - Beauty Synkro - Everybody Knows Nu:Tone - Set Me Free Sduk - On A Low Low Boxcutter - Rusty Break |

I knew this guy from an indie game development board, we used to converse a lot about 2-step/UK garage way back when... and now he's a dubstep artist finding a lot of success:

fucking LOVE this genre, was helping us power through our capstone last night :lol
during summer last year BENGA came to dj in a little club here and it was one of the greatest club experience I've had, but what tops it all off is that he came over to my friends house where we were holding an afterparty. He was a completely chill guy down to earth. Listen to CRUNKED UP or 26 BASSLINES by him if they haven't been mentioned already EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy2TO...eature=related Mt.Eden Dubstep- Sierra Leone, pretty sick track and they got some other good stuff as well

I've been loving Mt Eden Dubstep's Sierra Leone a lot lately - see it's already been posted multiple times. :D
Here's someone I like who hasn't been mentioned yet, Numbernin6. Stupid name, good mixes. He's got two up for download. |

Also, getting rid of a handful of old vinyl to make more space, there isn't much on this list but there's some decent stuff, before they go on ebay. Anyone want dibs?
:EDIT: link would help http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...5OU9lT0E&hl=en

I've found that I tend to like the heavier super visceral dubstep type stuff so here's so of what I've been diggin.
Borgore - Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuno2jOwOjo Tek-One - Do Not Bend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha-JzztzYqE Also Benga's Crunked Up is sweet and Don't Tell Them is good too. |

I'm kind of new to the whole Dub scene. Is Dub Techno the same? I've been listening to Deadbeat's Radio Rothko for weeks now and it is still as brilliant as the first day I heard it.

The best way to explain Dubstep and Dub Techno is that both have some element of Dub, the genre derived from Reggae. It's either the reverb/echo/delay effect the texture and vibe of the tunes, or the rhythms. Can't really explain dubstep but listen to some of the songs in this thread and see if you like it.. One thing about dubstep is that its "filthiness" has listeners as well as artists being profane just for the sake of it, which is a shame considering I do like the sounds of the genre: the wobble, the beats, the samples, just not all the crap I feel like I put up with just to listen to it. |
