Now that I've taken the time to get every spell I think is available to me at the moment, let's try fighting the boss again.

I tried the first time, and obviously due to lacking any thunder or healing spells and not taking the time to get anything but equipment, it turned out pretty bad.

Here's something to think about. The sea monsters in this canal area only attack the two female party members. Not enough of a hint? How about this: tentacle rape. Oh Japan.



I was actually expecting this guy to be hard without the presence of thunder spells. But due to the high and constant damage output of four monks, he went down rather easily. I still needed to heal a few times though. Getting harder!

... and Boss #4 bites the dust. This was one was pretty annoying, thanks to Drain and Tackle. Faris almost ran out of MP at the end.

Aaaaaand the inherent problem with having a Berserker in boss fights presents itself. Still managed to win on the first shot (Thank you, broken Frost Rod!), but holy hell what a pain.

After the castle, I'm going to take a shot at learning Aqua Breath without getting my ass handed to me. I'm thinking it probably won't go too well. :lol

Fighting the boss, I realized that I could just go all out - with Cover, they would just protect the knights who got tagged with Tail Screw. Awesome! He died fast after that.

#1 Here's my party at the save point before Garula.

#2 It was an intense fight, but I managed to get through it w/o dying. Must have used about 25 potions though. The secret mid-way is to focus on the potions and only use magic once in a while. Then, when you feel like you've done that for a while and his attacks seem to bring you closer and closer to your demise, you give him all you've got!

#3 And here's my new job! Magic Knight!

I'm trekking through North mountain on a real DS. Monk was my first class. Guess my mans are going to have high HP and counter everything to death. Might move them to the back row for the mammoth fight coming up, we'll see how it goes.

Also I have no idea what my next class is, but I'll be pretty pissed if I don't get at least one caster or a ninja or samurai. Heals would be nice but the first tier has most of them....

This is the first random encounter that gave me any real difficulty.


You guys had me spooked! Only level 9, I figured Garula* was going to kick my ass, but a steady application of 3x Potion, 1x Blizzard-backed-up-by-the-frost-rod-I-totally-didn't-blow-up-to-beat-boss-#3 easily did the trick.


Now it's time to see my second job! I'm so hopeful. There's still some pretty good options in this tier, so I'm sure what I get will be...

Vampire is from the bats in the Pirate Cave, Aero is from the ugly flying things in the Wind Shrine.

If you're in the North Mountain use an Ether on the headstone guys to learn Flash.

Next two bosses went down in short order. Blue Mages really ain't got nothin' to fear in the early parts of the game.



And now they have even less to fear from physical-oriented enemies.



Like these two, whose husband and wife crime spree was brought to a screeching halt by a quartet of masked vigilantes.



Now I can turn things into frogs. All I need to do now is find a prince and I'll be setting out upon a lucrative career as a fairy tale villain.



No prob. How hard can it be to not traumatize a furry elephant?

And the second job is mine. My roving band is quickly becoming expert in exotic magery.



On the one hand everybody's already mastered Blue Mage, so it seems a little pointless to keep them in it. On the other hand Time Mage doesn't really amount to much until some of the higher level spells become available. It comes down to a choice between dead end and suck. Story of my life.

I hate grinding, but I REALLY wanted to get Control as soon as possible. With the exception of Off-Guard (Which I seem to remember getting in the Library...don't remember which Page though), I think I've got all the Blue Magic I can get at this point.

My job setup is pretty freaking sweet, but I have no good way to take pics. But with 2 thieves and 2 white mages, I am ok for the beginning of the game. Most fights will be sort of like all the fights I'm going through in Nocturne now: set up my defenses, then tank and spank.
