Natal struggles to see Black people? #1

Hughtendo posted this on IGN. Quite a humorous find. haven't seen it posted here so brace yourselves...

http://bitmob.com/index.php/mobfeed/...pressions.html

Above impressions show that N'Gai Croal was not able to use Natal.

Quote:
"When game consultant and former Newsweek writer N'Gai Croal gave Paradise a test drive, however, the game had trouble reading his steering actions. The footwork (gas and brakes) worked fine, but Croal couldn't steer his car at all."

http://www.springerlink.com/content/p75x879k24k36185/

Above shows a journal which reports that near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is less effective on black skin as "melanin clearly interferes with the quality of the reflected NIRS signal".

As I understand, Natal uses near-infrared.

There is zero percent chance that MS isn't aware of this and are working on mitigating solutions...

Yet Michael Jackson had no issues with Natal whatsoever. He was overly fond of Milo, though. Enthusiastic, even.

As I understand, Natal uses near-infrared.
I wasn't aware that Natal relies on detecting light absorbance due to haemoglobin chromophores.

I really doubt the reflecting properties of different skin types are big enough to disturb a depth measurement system... I don't know about "Near-infrared spectroscopy" which sounds like a more subtle measurement, but only detecting bouncing IR should be feasible on all kind of people.
Actually I think that hairy hands would be more a problem than dark skin, since it could scatter the light. :P
