Week of January 12-18, 2009, when it had 7 games in the Top 30.

Well, I'd already commented on Tomodachi Collection's legs being great, but it also seems like Kingdom Hearts is hanging in there.
Although it took a sharp drop in its second and third weeks, it's been pulling in decent legs for an RPG.
It's probably not gonna pull off the numbers that either of the main games have done, but it's definitely a great showing.

I think Birth By Sleep could be as big as Kingdom Hearts II.

This week's releases look really weak for all platforms except PSP with Boku no Natsuyasumi 4 and Hatsune Miku: Project Diva. Is everyone just gearing up for DQIX?

MHP2 still above WiiFit even with Resort release. It looks like the crossing of the streams is still in the cards after all.

Seeing Rorona outsold initial shipment by over 50% - it's reminiscent of Demon's Soul which also started with low first shipment - any chance they could continue tracking similar or are Atelier games usually known for fast drops?

6 new entries this week is good: the japanese market is still very dynamic. We can notice sales are really better this week, which is also very good.

Let see how Wii Sports Resort perform on a longer term, I'd be curious to see it staying 1st for months :) Time will tell, but even Pokémon Platinum didn't manage to remain in 1st place for too long! Arf... Japanese players are playing too much :)

Dragon Quest IX comes out in one week actually. It's essentially an impossibility for it to remain in first place when that happens.

To note though, we won't see that sales chart for another two weeks however.

Well, one of the retailer guys posted on 2ch that the initial shipment is scheduled to be between 2.5 and 3 million. I don't know if that's the truth or not, but the same guy broke the news of the 7-minute trailer almost a month before it showed up, too.

don't think we have sales data from PSX and before, so only thing to look at is DQ8 which was 2,236,881 first week

edit: i stand corrected, but guess it didn't matter

We do have sales data for PSX; DQ7 did 1,862,065 first week... All previous releases did less than this, so 8's is the current high-water mark.

SE must be making as many copies of DQ9 as they can right now.
I think the first week sale (and prob the overall one) will top DQ8

will Wii Sports Resort have long legs? M+ isn't necessary as Wiimote comes with Wii Play, but the WSR game is pretty solid

WSR has the 3rd best debut of any Wii title and the best debut of any "Wii" group title. It did great. The only disappointment, if there is one, is in the lack of hardware bump week 1.

I expected more from WSR, considering the first WS if the best selling game of this generation.

But it'll have massive legs, I'm sure.

These are the charts for last week.

When he refers to this week, he means the charts that will be coming out next week. It gets a bit confusing.

Possibly. Still seems likely that by the time that happens, though, there will be MH3 and Wii Fit Plus mucking with the comparison. At the end of 2008, Wii Fit was about 320K ahead. Half a year later it's still something like 180K ahead. Well, at least in the Famitsu version of things.
