Bored to Death: Another possibly awesome HBO series? #1

http://www.hbo.com/events/boredtodeath/

Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, and Zach Galifianakis. Basic premise is about a guy (Schwartzman) who reads too many detective novels and then thinks he can be a detective as well. Given HBO's perchance for making awesome series', I'm excited.

This show and David Simon's 'Treme' might be some nice addons to HBO's steller lineup.

I'll just pretend this wasn't a double post and share my actual thoughts on the topic at hand:

Damn, this looks great. Parker Posey? Awesome. Ted Danson? Double awesome. Zach Galifianakis? Quadruple awesome (he counts for two).

After the Sopranos. They had like 0 ratings for years. The Wire got no ratings/awards. A couple of shows buckled. Big Love pulls nothing (though is supposedly good). Showtime is putting in major work. Entourages ratings were like at 1 million. etc etc etc

True Blood really helped them out tons.

For canning their best shows, it was deserved (of course those best shows probably didn't have the strongest ratings...but I still hate HBO for it). I can't say I like HBO's comedies much more than I like network comedies. I want to see HBO stick with what, IMO, they do best: shows set in the pre-1950's. That I'm aware of they have two upcoming series of that style (granted, one of them is fantasy...but it's close enough to a series like Rome that it could still be great) and one mini-series.

I had the opportunity to watch the press release of this show (first 6 episodes) and absolutely loved it. Ted Danson and Zach G are hilarious, and Jason S is very relateable.

I highly recommend it and would be happy to answer any questions or concerns

Not working for me, sadly. (Maybe because I'm outside the US?) And it looked quite interesting too, from the Quixote-like protagonist to the great cast.

The pilot's okay. It's a bit too on the nose and self-conscious at times, and I don't see much likelihood of caring about the main character. I might watch more, but I'm not sure how long it can maintain whatever charm it has.

I don't care for the actor portraying the main character, but he's surrounded by awesome other actors.. so I might have to give it a chance.
