Oh jesus CHRIST....This was my favorite game of ALL TIME when I was a kid! oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit OH SHIT
If this is an actual PC-centric simulation with FFB joystick support and a proper dynamic campaign for both sides It will probably destroy my life. I would NEVER need another game as long as I live! Excuse me for a moment... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() YYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Lucasarts, DO NOT fuck this up. I know where you work. While playing TIE Fighter, when I first saw the TIE Defender revealed I couldn't believe what I was seeing; it's probably the single most hideous ship design of all time. Then once I got in the cockpit, I discovered it was also ludicrously overpowered - a single TIE Defender really does feel capable of single-handedly destroying the entire rebel starfleet. While TIE Fighter was brilliant up to that point, those two things really hurt the ending for me.
Oh, well. Based on the complete adoration the game has received for the past decade, it's pretty clear that no one else shares my opinion. |

I loved the original games, but I also loved X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter. As a multiplayer release it was far ahead of its time and it was awesome joining squadrons and battling other people online in dogfights. I made it an art to never use missiles and always use the lasers
![]() btw if you didn't know, the original games were updated with XwVsTie's graphics engine in the X-Wing collection release a while back, which gave it texture mapping. |

The Missile Boat was awesome incarnate.
I was quite disappointed when it did not make the cut for X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. The TIE Defender was cool too, although I was pretty pissed when they virtually stripped the power away from you and started forcing you to fight Defenders with Advanceds, Missile Boats, and Gunboats. |

The XBL/PSN Monkey Island is a remake, right? That may suggest a game in the X-Wing series will get remade too. And that's cool. I'll definately buy that. But what I really really want is a new game set in the prequels. One thought that was constantly on my mind while watching the prequels is that though the movies are disappointing, all of these ships flying around are going to be so sweet in the next "X-Wing" game.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If we get a new X-Wing game where we get to cruise around in these bad boys, then the prequels are officially and completely redeemed in my eyes. |

I loved Tie Fighter as a kid, it felt so epic to me with that music and the sound effects ripped straight from the movie.

I can't even begin to understand what goes through the head of someone who comes up with shit like that. At least this particular user didn't make up any stupid reasons why there shouldn't be at least a decent console port with updated assets. I'd like to remind you that we are talking about fucking Tie Fighter here. This isn't Falcon 4.0. It's not just possible on consoles, it would be AWESOME on consoles. Starfighters with green lasers shoot starfighters with red lasers. It'll be pretty hard to dumb down something as simple as that. For all we know this announcement could be for any LA product that has an X-Wing or a Tie Fighter in it yet this thread is ridden with awful PC propaganda and requests for a PC only version of something that we don't know anything about. Can't you even wait for LA to make the damn announcement before you start making up reasons why it sucks because it's on consoles too? |

*sets expectations appropriately low*
If it involves consoles or gamepads, I couldn't care less... X-Wing or TIE Fighter games need joystick and keyboard, or they aren't space sims. So yeah, sure it would be nice... but as Totally Games hasn't been the same for years (I mean, Alien Syndrome for PSP/Wii? Um, this is from the developers of X-Wing? And Secret Weapons over Normandy wasn't much better, compared to their older games...), and Lucasarts has been even worse, I'm not expecting much. Well, if they have a graphically upgraded remake of X-Wing or something that could be good, if they don't mess it up somehow, but my expectations for actual new titles aren't exactly high. It would be utterly awesome if I'm wrong though, the space sim genre is one of the very deadest of all the genres out there, and it's one that I utterly loved, particularly thanks to TIE Fighter, which is one of the best games ever. But given how bad Lucasarts has been for the past decade, I'm not expecting it, though the recent Monkey Island stuff has at least raised expectations above the sub-zero levels they were before. So yeah, we'll see. |
