I do not want to rain on anyone's parade, but I tend to disregard reviews from company / format specific mags. I know it's unofficial, but it's still reason enough to be cautious.
Well done, though, you guys at 5th Cell, I'm sure reviews from all over the place will be just as high. (And I agree with the above poster, the review was pretty badly written and the structure was awful...I suppose they were on quite a tight schedule...) |

I've heard crazy stories about even "mainstream" sites like IGN and Gamespot, so whom do you trust? |

Blizzard: Where are you? If UK, look out for GamesMaster, if not, wait for an online write-up (from GamesMaster, I could provide if you like, when the time comes). IGN will practically give you a cross-reference of all other internet sources opinions, so, yeah, just like metacritic etc, no real substance there. Hopefully some more full reviews will be forthcoming. I'm not arguing with the score or anything, I'm sure Scribblenauts is deserving of it, but it didn't really give me the detail I'm looking for when it comes to the less-documented features. (thanks for the note about GamesMaster...hadn't heard of it so I'll take note if I hear its score)

I'll hold off reporting on any reviews in the OP unless they're usually counted in review aggregates like Metacritic/etc. It's still great that we have a 9/10 and a 10/10.
I'm looking forward to Nintendo Power's review, actually. They tend to be pretty unbias nowadays |

Sheeeeesh. I have no problem admitting that I had never even heard of Ultimate Nintendo magazine until today (not living in Australia), and also that the text of the review ain't exactly Christopher Marlowe. They even got some minor facts about the content of the game wrong. But they tell us what they liked and didn't like, describe some gameplay scenarios, explain some of its more unique aspects, and end up offering their recommendation. I was particularly interested that they claimed the game was easy and intuitive to control, despite some quirks in tight spaces, because this seems to be the most recurring critcism. Honestly, it was no worse than half the reviews I regularly see counted toward a total Metacritic score. Kids these days. Blizzard, you continue to entertain. ![]() |

The two trends I've noticed is that if a game is really hyped, like the Conduit or Madworld, IGN tends to give it a higher score than most outlets (assuming it doesn't outright suck) and Gamespot seems more willing to forgive gameplay or graphical flaws for games that really showcase entertainment or innovation (See NMH) Taking those into account, I can usually get an idea of a game that I'm satisfied with before purchasing. |

Actually, Jackson (or anyone else who knows), is there going to be any sort of confirmation about how many preorders the game had? I imagine it would have to wait until the game's release, and they would mostly be from GameStop and Amazon, but it would be interesting to find out.
Also, you do [ spoiler ] without the spaces, and [ / spoiler ] to end the spoiler block. :) |

If I hadn't already preordered two copies (and bought a new DS charger for this) I would totally jump on that Toys R Us deal.
This would be great for parents thinking about buying the game for their kids, too- get a little something for the non-DS-age younger sibling too. |

Jesus Christ, my mind is about to explode
http://www.giantbomb.com/giant-bomb-...h-tim/17-1324/ Right around the 23:30 - 26:00 mark Tim Schafer and Jeff Gerstmann find themselves at the Scribblenauts booth. There they meet Jackson and give him some shit (jokingly) and have a good time. I can't even begin to describe the feeling I currently have. Gerstmann has been my favorite journalist for years...and subsequently, Giant Bomb has been my favorite video game website since it launched. Shafer is...well, it's fucking Tim Schafer! I loved Psychonauts and Grim Fandango, I'm pumped as hell for Brutal Legend. And Jeremiah Slaczka...I think we all know that guy. To see them all in one place, talking to each other...man. Worlds colliding! Also, someone has gotta make a .gif of Schafer "punching" Jackson with Jeff's reaction in the background. Amazing. |
