That's fair, although the PSP Mini developers have not been promoting their titles yet so there's not a lot to talk about.

For me, I've pretty happy for the support on the professional side that will be with the PSP Minis program, as I think there are a lot of games that could be on PSP but aren't because of the market and shouldn't be because of the pricing disc-based games carry. The EA version of Tetris looks dinky but unless it's awesome like the DS game, I'd rather pay a buck or two (assuming its cheap) for a simple Tetris than one at $20 that tries to justify its existence with a bunch of modes I'll never play. Pac-Man CE is obviously a dream come true. Burn Zombie Burn 2D could also be cool. I think the digital download market will bring a lot of the kinds of games to PSP that I always thought it'd be stocked with, it's just that when a system brings out a Grand Theft Auto game, it's tough to justify bringing a little puzzler or pinball game.

TETRIS PSP

BURN ZOMBIE BURN 2D

On the independent side, some of the games already mentioned are on my list too, but I think the titles I'm currently most in search of are the shooters, as I loved Super Stardust Portable and have not seen nearly enough of that kind of gameplay on the system. (There's a decent homebrew version of Geometry Wars that got abandoned by the developer but is addictive all the same.) MiniGore looks like a fun, and I'm excited for the PSP version of AstroTripper. All of the HalfBrick games look really awesome as well, I've never tried their Xbox games but Rocket Racing, Echoes and especially Zombies caught my eye.

HALFBRICK ZOMBIES (IPHONE, I THINK?)

I predict the next big custom firmware update will come around the Go's launch. 5.55 GEN is kinda spotty, or so I have heard, so a new M33 would be nice.

The devkit is cheaper but does Sony allow anyone to buy them? In other words, can two guys in a garage buy one or do they have to prove to be a game company or something like that?

By legit, I mean the products have to have all the legal hurdles cleared away. Chances are very low that a company will be able to distribute on Sony's service this ripoff of Tron, for example even though it's great on the system (if you don't have a CFW PSP, check out GLtron instead). No emulators either. No PSPTube or PiMPStreamer, for that matter... :(

No Gravity: The Plague of Mind began as a homebrew game playable only by those with hacked PSPs, but was later released on the PlayStation Store and playable by all PSPs. With that in mind, the door appears to be open for a homebrew game to eventually "graduate" into a sanctioned product.

Pretty good list so far, although I have to admit I'm still unfamiliar with about half the games on that list. With October 1 quickly approaching, I'd like to see some comprehensive preview of the first batch of PSP Minis. The latest episode of Pulse showed Tetris, but I would have liked to have seen some of the lesser known games as well.

I was going to wait for the reviews of everything other the Tetris. I mean, Minigore is essentially a dual joystick shooter on iPhone right? So I'm assuming that it's going to be the analog stick to move, and the face buttons to shoot?

Maybe I should have phrased it "Too bad developers have to keep it legit to bring games to PSP Minis." Yes, indies are now a recognizable entity thanks to PSP Minis, but that still doesn't mean that a clear clone of Tron will be able to be posted on Sony's service with no questions asked. Same as how the Beats of Rage project will never be able to get posted for play on uncracked PSPs. And no emulators, of course.

Unfortunately, Sony has also said little about non-game applications on its systems. They sounded a while back like they might be open to it, but no word yet on any movement in that sector. I hope this looser development approach does encourage them, I would love to be able to use PSPTube on my primary PSP.

But never mind that, the good news is that the legit indie scene for PSP is exploding, and going by a lot of forums I've seen about the games, it feels like the gamers are really excited by it too. Anything that Sony can do to make it so that games like Pac-Man CE can be played on a portable, I'm all for.

I'm seriously considering getting a PSP go and Minis is one of the reasons why. The only thing that bothers me is that Sony is limiting devs from putting online modes into these games, let the dev do what they want to do.

Every single one of those launch titles sound shitty based on the title. I mean Pacman Championship Edition? Fuck off trying to sell us 30 year old games.

I'm all for experimental dev stuff at a budget price, but I won't pay a buck for shovelware.
