Video game music "inspired"/stolen from other sources.
#1
So we all know video game composers like to pay tribute to artists/bands/etc (wink wink) and the following example from Blast Corps and Front Line Assembly has been bothering me for a while
http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/song/Circuitry/2142932 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn2QkrgT3K0 Seriously? Couldn't they have tried a little harder? What are some other obvious and not so obvious examples of video game composers being "inspired" by other songs? |

I remember that when the FFVIII demo hit so many years ago, that Attack on Dollet theme was accused of being blatant thievery from the movie The Rock. IIRC, Nobuo Uematsu indicated that it was a surprising coincidence, not theft, but he pulled the track and composed the new one that eventually made it into the final game.
But I have the MP3 of it, Mr. Uematsu! I've got you pegged! (Spoiler: original song > replacement song.) |

Super Robot Taisen K recently lifted music from Estpolis Denki II (Lufia II) note-for-note:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csM9yi9X8Tk It also lifted several passages from the Maoh/Magus boss fight in Chrono Trigger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-953YVh9As Bandai Namco even issued a public apology. |

Combat Cars from the Mega Drive (read: Genesis if you are from the U.S)
I think the game only has music they ripped from somewhere, I just don't recall the artist/name of the songs from that time all that well, so yeah, here is the one I do know! Here Goes: Character Select Screen: Sped up MD Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP2yLmfuJeo Haddaway - What is love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsCXZczTQXo Downtown Theme MD Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYA-jD1nFcA 2Unlimited - Twillight Zone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ-OU-MtU7w |

This is my personal favorite.
First listen to this song (The ever infamous rickroll) Now listen to the song 16-bit-ified with Mario Paint And now Listen to this That's right, you've been getting rickrolled by Chrono Trigger for 15 years. |

I posted this in the mind blowing thread, but the Shinra Theme sounds very similar to Kashmir, by Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRpJg1StvFw FF VII - Shinra Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xis9bi2OeM4 Play the song at the 7 minute mark. I wouldn't say it was stolen or anything, but it really caught me off guard one day while listening to the song. |

I've always felt that Cumin' Atcha Live sounds like f-zero, mute city I think.
I'm probably the only person that thinks this. |

_There is a song in Grandia clearly based on Rose Royce's "wishing on a star" but i can't recall wich one ! Some area on the second disc i guess.
_There are pretty resemblances between some Mario and Zelda tracks and some Gershwin ones ! But that's just a feeling i have, nothing proved ! _There is ChronoRick but it's famous i guess^^ |

I don't know if it's "inspired/stolen/whatever" but when I was a kid, when I first heard this:
Super Mario World (1-1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkaokGmhkGg#t=0m23s I immediately thought of this: Lamb Chop's Play Along Theme Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVZDbHUG-_0#t=0m31s |

Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves - Rock Howard's Theme - Spread The Wings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm5_HxLVUc8 Robert Miles - Children http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCbO-3hjPok I still think both songs and the game kick ass though. ![]() |
