2 hours 34 minutes in. Just acquired the drill power.

I had to stop because my wrist was in agony. The Lost Winds games are certainly some of the more tiring on the Wii.

The game's flowing nicely. None of the mechanics have been overdone and the physical element makes even the simplest of puzzles feel enjoyable.

Really impressed.

Just bought it and peeked into it for a couple minutes. Not as hand-holding as the original in the beginning, which is nice.

Just like the first one, it has really great presentation for a WiiWare title. Love the music and the new snow environments. With this and Icarian (which I still haven't finished), it's been good times for platformer fans lately.

That alone is good news, as that was roughly how long it took me to complete the original. :lol

I think I'm approaching four hours now.

I wouldn't gauge my play-through as particularly representative. I did run into a few frustrating puzzles yesterday that padded the numbers a little.

I finished it. It's better than the first in every respect and took me 5 and a half hours to finish. The clock said 4 hrs 50 minutes but there were quite a few times where I got stuck and didn't save so its longer.

Its far more polished and intricate, just better all around than the first game. It doesn't really do a good job of explaining the old moves from the first game for Lost Winds noobs but I assume that's in the manual.

Graphics are some of the best on the system, ignore the screens you've seen this baby looks schweet on an SDTV. You can zoom the camera all the way in and its positively glowing. You even get this little fur suit and the snow particle effects are mesmerising.

It holds-up surprisingly well on a 42-inch LCD.

Bold colours, simple textures, and a bit of bloom seems like a recipe for success when it comes to Wii games.

I tried it on my 50" HDTV and as usual it created jaggies. Ugh.

Oh yeah I had a problem when guiding your "friend" about. There was one point where it looked like there was a set of stone pinball buffers and I was endlessly searching around for a switch to open it. I changed seasons, tried all sorts of ways and nothing happened. Then I saved, turned off the machine.

When I turned it on later in the same area that barrier was gone and I could progress. Weird glitch.

Just beat the boss. 6.41 on the clock and one more collectable to locate.

Despite a few frustrating bits later in the game (some a result of my own stupidity), I really enjoyed it.

Finished it in 3:50 with all statues found. So together with the first one, I see this as 20€ for ~6 hours of pure platforming bliss. :D

Really good stuff. Haven't played a Boy and his Blob yet, but this probably is my platformer GOTY so far, ahead of Trine, Klonoa and Icarian.

My pathetically slow ass probably got over ten hours of game from Lost Winds and Winter of the Melodias for £14.

I need to go back to Icarian. I didn't progress particularly far in my single session with the game.

NSMB Wii?

Also yeah, the series is really building up. I just want them to do more than 4 hours every 1 goddamn year.

Did you by chance exit and re-enter the area between trees, and skip on a tree you checked before exiting during the second go?

I'm asking because it happened to me, and Oswald ended up in the tree that I checked before, so it's randomized. I also think I saw just 3 trees.

Yep. Seems I went out of the area and when I came back, the assignement wasn't active anymore. The game has really picked up now that I've gotten all the powers. The beginning was kind of boring, but I'm really liking it now. By the looks of the map, it almost over though.

Something I discovered during the later stages of the game was that I was taking my thumb off the A-button too early.

As long as you slowly draw something approximating a circle and keep the button held down you shouldn't have any problems.

I spent 4 hours with the first and well over six in Winter of the Melodias.

Your milage will vary, obviously. I might have clocked-in at under five hours if I hadn't had managed to get embarrassingly stuck a couple of times.

You know, I enjoyed the original for what it was but never had the desire to do a replay. It's just so linear and non-eventful, despite its beauty. I really hope the sequel can have a few more elements that might lead to some more game play.

Probably not. It's relatively easy to go through the game and get 99% of the collectables without much deviation.

It does make me want to go and play the first and second games back-to-back at some point in the future.

Yeah, I think I'll do that on the day before the 3rd comes out or something.

I got into a nice habit of doing that right now. I'm replaying the first 3 Mario games while waiting for NSMB Wii, I'll probably do the same for 3D Zeldas. It's a nice way to waste time in anticipation.

I think I am stuck:

I am on that part where the statue is following you, and you reach in a very tall wall close to a door, but I can't make the staute go up... I tried to find another route, but the only possible route is using the mushrooms and the statue also don't float to reach the other mushroom.

I only remember one section with a mushroom when traveling with the king. Isn't there a door on the right of the screen that you can open using the King's singing?

You may need to switch the seasons to get to the other side.

I'm still pretty early playing the game but the icy graphics and reflection effect look really nice. Also, Toku's new winter outfit is sweet! Even early on there's way more enemies you encounter than probably in the entirety of the original game. :D

So Winter of the Melodias is out in US and EU now, if you've played it, what are your thoughts?

Much like we did with the first game, over the next few weeks we're (Frontier) going to be collecting and gathering feedback from the fans.

Could be nice if the secret statue things weren't so leniently given away. I understand that you don't wanna waste a puzzle on them in a budgeted game, but some were put right in front of my face, and it took me just an extra 8 minutes to fetch what I didn't get on my normal playthrough (I could list them if you want).

Finished it yesterday in a single sitting, and I'm ready to play it again. The pacing felt a bit tighter to me than the first, and it was a really great follow-up, I think. My only complaint, really, is that defeating glorbs is still kind of a grey area. I would prefer to have a more defined way of defeating them, but they usually bounce around and end up becoming really annoying...especially during the end sequence. As clever as that final part was, the constant barrage of sticky glorbs started to piss me off. It seems to be at odds with the rest of the game, which can be so methodical and relaxing.

Bought this yesterday, going to play it tonight. I love the fact that you guys seemed to really listen to feedback, and implement some changes into the second game.

I'll post some impressions tonight or tomorrow...Really looking forward to playing, I loved the first one, and can't wait to play this!

The only real issue I had with the game was the first stage of the final boss. Maybe I missed some cue or hint, but I spent a looong time jumping around not knowing what to do.

I do appreciate the more organic, hands-off approach in terms of tutorials and hints, but that section just left me with too many dots to connect.

That said, I quite enjoyed the remainder of the fight once the mechanics had been established.

I find it very defined how you beat them. The regular glorbs you just flick up then flick down and on impact they die. Otherwise you can just burn them. The fire ones you ice over then do the same.

Actually the fire ones also die on impact the same way, I think.
