Wow, kind of a harsh tag, even if it is a reference to that IGN marketing line.

#100 was way too low for Ice Hockey. And Life Force deserved to be much, much higher. I daresay it's Contra's equal.
I'm a little disappointed that Zelda II just missed the top 20, but considering the other awesome games that got the shaft (see: DQ/DW 3 and 4, Kirby's Adventure), it could have been worse. Having read Matt C.'s comments of lulz over his brother having trouble with the legitimately mega-difficult Ghosts 'n' Goblins and its controls, I can only hope he doesn't have any of those as his complaints against Zelda II, which he has considered flawed, even though he's lenient towards other games of the same era.

I bet half of you bashing IGN are just going by word of mouth. They fuck up pretty bad here and there, but everyone does, I don't get why you guys blow it so out of proportion with them. "3.0? Outrageous, they just don't understand the game! I'm self-important and know more then a major gaming site, listen to me!" is what it seems to come down to.

I don't want to shit all over IGN, but they really do have some poor writers over there. I'm not just talking about the "clicking on pretty much anything in this game results in an epic LOL" crap, but every review is perfunctory, utilitarian pap. Sometimes up to five pages of dull description and listless criticism, all with a restrictive vocabulary.
I know IGN's core audience isn't exactly the same as Gamasutra or EDGE, but does that mean they should be subjected to this garbage? And I know they'll also just look at the score and then argue on forums, but whatever. This is just the US guys. Some of the UK and Australian writers are pretty good. |
