SHOTS FIRED!!! Microsoft starts new Xbox 360 Ban Wave!!! #1

Right now we don't have a lot of details, except it doesn't seem to be linked to any particular FW version or drive model, as users with all type of FWs and drives report bans, while others with the same configuration still seem fine.

More details soon ...
looks like this is becoming an annual thing... at least we know MS isn't sitting on their hands!

So, is it just users who flashed the DVD Drive to play burned DVDs, or something else?

Anyone who has purchased an Xbox 360 (any SKU) in the past 24 months is at risk.

It isnt discussed as much here or elsewhere (that I've seen) but I'm hearing more and more people who are just modding their 360's and downloading games. Hopefully this is the user MS is targeting with the bans.

My favorite thing about bannings is how indignant some douches act when they can't connect to Live anymore.

What I don't understand is why can't Microsoft check to see if the disc they're using is unique?

Maybe they do? if so why isn't it blacklisted from online games? There seems to be almost no punishment for downloading games weeks before release.

I remember one of the Forza devs posting a tweet about people playing it early so they must know who is real (press, devs etc) and who stole it.

I went to the "Policing Xbox Live" panel at PAX, and Stephen Toulouse claimed that they have ways of telling if someone is playing an illegitimate copy or not (this was right during the ODST leak). He wouldn't reveal how, saying that they want to keep those methods to themselves.

I just finally canceled my Gold auto renewal from the website. They had to show me five pages of games and "fun stuff" which I'm going to miss before letting me though. They should just do Q/A like in World of Warcraft where you can answer why are you canceling your account. That would maybe help them too.

Least I didn't have to call that Estonian customer service again.

EDIT: Way offtopic. Sorry.

Legit people signing in from modded consoles? Nah. The reason Microsoft doesnt pan user names is so the banned moders just go and buy more xbox consoles.
