Sony doesn't Fight Gamesharing, New TOS has a typo
#1
Bad news for all traders and users with multiple PS3s, SCE have changed their Terms of Service to allow only up to 3 PS3s on one account.
Traders beware, you can only share games on up to three PS3s now, users with share groups will also be affected. Users with >3 systems activated should be safe, however if one system is deactivated, it can no longer be activated again. Quote from the TOS: In-game items or content that you have purchased may be downloaded from PlayStation®Store. Pursuant to the particular terms of use that govern a specific in-game item or content you have purchased, you may use that item or content on up to three (3) different PlayStation®3 systems that have been activated for your account. You may deactivate or activate specific PlayStation®3 systems, as long as the maximum activated number of PlayStation®3 systems for your account at any given time is three (3). * The first category, called Network Content, can only be accessed by one activated PlayStation®3 system per day and only by the account through which the Network Content was purchased. Network Content cannot be used on two different PlayStation®3 systems within a twenty-four (24) hour period. * The second category, called Local Content, once installed on a PlayStation®3 system by the account that purchased it, can be accessed by other accounts on that same PlayStation®3 system. SHARE YOUR GAMES WITH FRIENDS ITS AN AWESOME FEATURE UP TO 5 PEOPLE!
now 3, you have all been using and abusing our system! who gave you this idea you were supposed to share the games?!? oh that's right:
Quote:
yes yes i know, Tretton mispoke and we shouldn't hold the words of presidents of large companies to their heads like a gun. It was an honest mistake, he didn't mean to increase hype and help defuse the price argument, he just got it wrong and now we all have to play by the rules of using it the right way that they didn't bother telling us. ![]() |

Dang. At this point I don't even have anyone other accounts activated on my PS3, so this doesn't really effect me, but there are a couple people that I've allowed to "borrow" my content.
Is there any way to deactivate MY account from someone else's PS3? |

Damn that sucks, the worst thing is that you can't get it back. :(
Hopefully you can still get your activations back if you contact them directly. I don't want to lose all my stuff if my system breaks (again) Edit: I read it wrong. You don't lose your activations, its just that you can't activate your account on someone else's machine more than once, should you choose to deactivate it. Good, so it won't affect you if your machine breaks then. Its a fair enough compromise, considering that developers were getting concerned about people abusing the system. Don't see much of a point in limiting to 1 less account. Either have it as originally or not at all.

Oh man... This sucks so badly for me, as I've literally lost two accounts in a way that's completely unknown to me, and two of my friends have two accounts, while I have the fifth one. So if this PS3 ever gets replaced, I won't be able to activate a new one, unless I tell both friends to deactivate theirs. Sony really needs some remote deactivation Itunes style, where you can deactivate all the activated accounts, and then reactivate just those that you want.
Now that I think maybe this three activation rule has been there for a long time, and I didn't actually lose any accounts. It's just that I have all three already activated.

Great. This is where a bunch of smug fuckers get to point out that game sharers used content in a manner that was endorsed by the content provider and now they're shafted. Woo-hoo.
Doesn't affect me, only share with one person. |

People will bitch but all things considered it's totally understandable. All except that Tretton quote (I'll have to look up the original ToS having never shared).

well, it'll be closely followed by a raft of people screaming "you are all no better than pirates and Sony are in the right and it was clear Tretton made a mistake!" apologists so this should be an awesomelongthread. ;)
Quote:
<billhicks> Sony are like Jack Palance in the movie Shane, throwing the pistol at the sheep herder's feet: "Pick it up." "I don't wanna pick it up mister, you'll shoot me." "Pick up the gun." "Mister, I don't want no trouble, huh. I just came down town here to get some hard rock candy for my kids, some gingham for my wife. I don't even know what gingham is, but she goes through about 10 rolls a week of that stuff. I ain't looking for no trouble, mister." "Pick up the gun." Boom, boom. "You all saw him. He had a gun." </billhicks> |

Good for Sony. The abuse going on was ridiculous. Now developers have a better chance to actually make more money.

It was always about being a DRM system, and I would assume this probably came as a reaction to developer pressure rather than Sony wanting to change their ways. |

Will the different types of content be labeled as such pre purchase?
So whoever loses his/her PS3 first and second in a current group of 5 is done for At least thats how I read it. If you have 5, you're fine but you wont be able to reactivate if you deactivate past the limit of three. That said, i think this will decrease my spending on there. Pixeljunk Shooter and that's about it on the horizon for me. At least most games have demos nowadays so that while we wont be wontonly buying everything because its so cheap after sharing, at least we will be able to try before we buy. Didn't the original ToS state that "gamesharing" could only be used on consoles owned by the original licensee? I'm pretty sure Tretton's quote runs counter to the actual text of the ToS.

I'm confused...is this already in effect? Also, so if your sharing with 4 other people, you'll be good? But then if one of them deactivates, hes completely locked out? Also, so its not at all a 5 share system now, so now if my ps3 breaks down 3 times and I don't deactivate, I'm fucked?

So, wait... I have three content licenses, but removing one means I have 2... 1... 0 after that?
WTF is this bullshit? Sony's DRM was slightly better than MS's because you activated/deactivated the systems and kept your numbers so long as you managed your shit. |
