I'm so happy for Level 5.

Edit: Inzauma Eleven 2 is the first rpg to reach a million that is based on a new IP in forever :D

Edit 2: In Japan lol

Famitsu let it cross the million line one week earlier than MC. Should be Level 5's most successful game by now. Crazy.
You now what this means:

Inazuma Eleven 3, 4, 5, 6 every September/October
Layton 5, 6, 7, 8 every December
Ni no Kuni 2, 3, 4, 5 every summer

Please Level 5 don't start milking Inazuma. And localize it as soon as possible.

Well, I actually think the Layton formula is perfect for annual releases. Having a nice little story garnished with fun puzzles and great production values is something I can take once a year.

And Ghibli will certainly not allow Level 5 to whore Ninokuni out.

But yeah, Inazuma is a certain candidate for frequent sequels, but we'll how this turns out. It's just now passed a great milestone new IP's rarely reach and I can only think how cool that is. :p

Ninokuni is a Level 5 IP. Ghibli doesn't have much say as to what Level 5 will do with it, since the story and concept is Level 5's to begin with. As long as the franchise remains successful enough for Level 5 to continue paying Ghibli to work with them on the animation FMVs and overall art direction, there's no reason why it won't be an ongoing game series.

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised to see this game fall into the Fall or even Q1 2011 at this rate.

I was just quite curious to see what a hypothetical super March would look like. Seems it won't be happening though. :lol

I'm not saying it wont have sequels. It just wont be a yearly business is what I'm saying.

There's a tie-in for the game with a J-rock star's latest single that came out today, and there's also a Collector's Pack, so I'm not sure the lack of a Zapper bundle matters.

And its pure shit. Thankfully there's a commercial with just game footage.

It really depends on Level 5 and how fast they feel they can make a new entry in the series while maintaining quality so as not to lose fans in the process. Ghibli has nothing to do with the equation of whether it is a yearly business or not.

In the interview, he also explained that new game GT5 - the Prologue demo-style version of which is currently the UK's bestselling game - had been in the works by 150 people for four years and has cost 50 times more to make than the original GT1 on the PlayStation.
Source: http://www.develop-online.net/news/29626/Polyphony-looks-to-PC-game-development

So, given this statement, the game has been in development with 150 people since April 2004. Since it got delayed out of March, it'll probably at least be in development until April 2010.

You know, when they announced this at E3 2006, I probably wouldn't have guessed that it would take 150+ people at least six years to develop, so I'm not going to rule Q1 2011 entirely out of the question, even if it's not highly likely. :p

I hear Inazuma Eleven 3 has been announced for a 2010 release, along with a new Pokemon Ranger for DS coming in March. I know Pokemon Ranger is true, I've seen the scans myself, but I haven't seen anything for Inazuma 3. I think this is from Jump, and there's supposed to be a "worldwide exclusive scoop" regarding Inazuma next week or something.

Once again, unconfirmed and I'm only posting because I think it's of interest to sales-age more than game-age. :lol

I think I mentioned it before but Famitsu top10 on their website had MHP2G second re-release on some place like #85 the week before its release. They probably started selling it before release and Famitsu counted them...or maybe they come from a console bundle I think it was going to have that released before the standalone version?

EDIT: Missed it before but hats off to Level-5 for their first self-published million seller! Now get back to work on the overseas versions you 4$&¬@6AS....

The release date is 12/24, why the LTD is different from the two-weeks numbers ?_?
The only explanation I can give (if you can call this an explanation...) is that the extra 5.904 sales of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP the Best Reprint) they have from a week ago, are the the sales of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP the Best).

For some reason Famitsu must have added this week's sales of the previous version to the new SKU.

That or Capcom shipped some limited ammount one week earlier.

Wouldn't be surprised, considering the horrendous supply problems in NA. They REALLY botched the supply ramp up in December. So many missed out sales.

Funniest thing in that chart is Animal Crossing Wii. Probably selling at 1000yen a pop, only reason why it's on the charts.
Like Nintendo has dropped the price on any of their games this gen :p

Yeah, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is heavily supply-constrained world-wide. You'd think Nintendo, in this day and age, could react quicker to the high demand. Especially in the US where the game is sold out nationwide (along with Mario Kart Wii...again!).
Yea I can't believe Mario Kart Wii continues to have supply issues :lol

I had a feeling Phantasy Star Portable would have good legs, but I didn't expect it to still be in the top 10 this long after release, even with a lot of PSP's selling due to Kingdom Hearts.

I'm starting to wonder if God Eater will do really well. I guess that will come back down to quality and how much people liked the demo.

Ultimately though, PSP2 is still doing worse than PSP. I don't see how that is a great thing for the title. If it has outpaced the original, and yet continues to show better legs, then that would be very impressive and show that Sega has improved on the fanbase and the demand for the title. But right now it just looks like it is replicating a large portion of PSP's success, but not all of it.

It's kind of odd in that way. I wonder if people didn't like the old one and then found out that the new one is actually good, then started slowly buying it as word got around that this one is fun.

I didn't play to much of PSP1 and I haven't had a chance to play PSP2, but I remember seeing a change list of about 200+ lines in the PSP2 information thread, with at least 10-15 of them being rather large.

I wonder if it will manage to crawl past the original, or if people eventually turning their copies in will stop that.

This site has it at 500k in 2 days but I'm not sure if it's expectations or actual numbers:
http://mainichi.jp/enta/mantan/news/20100112mog00m200040000c.html

That's just the "expectation" of the Tsutaya boss. He does these editorials for Mainichi every now and then, and it is basically just his forecast and predictions for the market based on how stuff are selling in his stores and the vibe he feels at retail. It's interesting and all that he agrees with duckroll that BbS could definitely have surpassed 500k in 2 days, and that the bundle is also going to give the PSP a great boost, but these are by no means official numbers.

Just read an entry by sinobi from a few days ago saying Darkside Chronicles had good/favorable pre-orders. If there's one region DSC can surpass UC in, it's Japan.

Oricon agrees with Famitsu top 30 but the funny is they consider it a new release even though it sold 5.904 the previous week.

Oricon calls it "NEW" if it's new to their listing, even if it dropped off and came back on.

Glad the issue Kurosaki Ichigo noted previously is straightened out now. Famitsu isn't combining the BEST with its lower-priced reprint. :)

Um, it's also the only region that we don't already have evidence that DSC isn't going to pass UC, since it hasn't released, yet. :p No zapper bundle = no chance?

So, with the GT delay I wonder if Sony's hardware sales are going to deflate. It seemed to me that March GT5 would be necessary to keep momentum going in 2010. What's the next big release if it's not there?

It's out considering it's 1:16AM here. ;)

But forget the Zapper. Capcom's invested a lot more in the advertising campaign by having a tie-in with J-rock singer Kiyoharu. The guy's reasonably famous, so it'll be interesting to see if the tie-up can improve the game's sales. Capcom even threw a pre-launch party for the press. So I guess they're expecting big things out of this one. By contrast, UC was kind of thrown out there with the Zapper.

There's Ryu ga Gotoku 4, but that will most likely sell to the same audience RgG3 did. I don't think Japan is going to get all hyped up over God of War 3. So... yeah.... there goes the March messiah!

What about limited resources? Didnt say say the whole deal worked out because they just finished a major movie release and had some free time? I know Ghibli is huge and does a lot of stuff, still, Princess Mononoke had like 5 art directors and their projects tend to be quite big. I now its farfetched though, the game hasn't even been released.
