Yeah, it's kind of unacceptable.

Someone mentioned it had to do with clocks from a certain manufacturer. Which is why Slims work great and a number of fats work good too.

Wouldn't like to be the manufacturer of that clock right now. If they're internal to Sony they'll get a right old bollocking over this. If they're external, big-ass lawsuit ahoy. Probably.

Bob, from another forum, may not be accurate to your model but anyway:

"My PS3 is slightly different to the one shown, in that it has two more screws in the top, towards the middle of the unit. Once you get to the bit where it tells you to 'gently lift out the whole motherboard' (pic. 17) you need to turn the mother board over and on the reserve side, on the left-hand side, you will see a round plastic piece of green tape, with something like 'CR2032 Sony Energy Devices Corp.' written on it. Whilst this looks a piece of specialised equipment, it is nothing more than a 'common or garden' CR2032 battery that you can pick up from any watch repair shop or even on Ebay. Remove the battery from its holder and gently unclip it from the motherboard. You will need to remove the green plastic from the existing battery and you will then see that Sony have kindly soldered the positive and negative connectors onto the existing battery. Carefully prise these connectors off with a screwdriver and then either solder them onto the new battery (paying particular attention that you get the positive and negative the right way round!!!) or, as I did, you can simply hold them in place and secure them with some tightly-wound electrical tape. Clip the new battery into place and reconnect the electrical connector to the motherboard. Put the PS3 back together in the reverse order to which you took it apart and, hey presto, you should have a PS3 that keeps the time and date perfectly...........until that battery needs replacing, of course!!"

The timing is a bit suspicious considering the massive playstation.com overhaul over the weekend. And I also noticed my portable ID looks different:

(used to be dark)

Well they said on the blog that they were changing color schemes, so that is probably that

PLEASE DO. I'm right behind you on this.

Quick question about backing up saves...I think I remember hearing that if you use the backup utility to back up your PS3 saves, it will also copy LOCKED game saves, is this correct?
Any locked saves can only be restored onto the same system. Unlocked saves will copy as normally.

In order to transfer over locked saves you have to use the transfer utility to hook the old PS3 up to the new one. I'd recommend bringing an ethernet cable with you to Best Buy and having them do the transfer there rather than trying to restore a backup.

You might be talking to me, but keep in mind that was just my guess.

Who knows? I started my undergrad Computer Science degree, and we learned how to make an if statement to determine a leap year within the first three weeks of my intro to programming class. It was in Java, but still, if this is something people are learning in intro to programming classes, how did they screw this up?!

Heck, I been studying C for 4 days and already know how to check for it. Somebody did really screwed well in a simple thing.
But as they say, big problems normally come from small issues.

EDIT: my bad, old news.

No battery means your PS3 would forget what time it is every time you unplugged it, which doesn't happen. Keep searching.
Im not syaing it's gone but could it be placed in a differant spot then the system they tried this one. I really need a picture here because there's no battery visible at this point at all.

I hate the new color scheme, the forums are almost unreadable. If they're going to force a universal color scheme on us it should have stayed black.

I noticed this randomly on my phat 80GB model last night. Didn't really impact me because I intended to watch a movie, but I did spend a few minutes troubleshooting it before giving up. Just checked and it's still porked.

Not a big deal for me personally, but I can imagine folks who use their PS3's to play online regularly aren't happy.
can't play offline games either. If it was online games only i wouldnt give a shit

OT: Hey is this easy to do, clean up the inside I mean? And since you removed the sticker, would Sony still take it in for repairs if you sent it to them or no?? Thats what's stopping me from doing so. But Im sure I'd rather save that $150 and save for a Slim if mine died.
Nope, they won't take it in if that sticker is removed, that's how they know if it's been opened or not, which voids the warranty. Most consoles have a sticker like that that leaves the word "void" over everything after you remove it. I used to work in a Mom and Pop video game store and we had rejected a few Xbox 360s that were trying to be traded in because that sticker behind the faceplate was gone.

I haven't turned on my PS3 for a while, i guess it wouldn't be a good thing to turn it on now would it?
Leave it off until 8PM Eastern or so. If it doesn't automatically fix itself by then, there's no reason to leave it off. You'll be just as screwed as the rest of us.

As said by others. Not true! My 160gn Ps3 phat it still working fine.
Shos the correct time and I can play games with trophies.
cool.

I'll say, "a majority", then. and I'm certainly inclined to believe that the minority who are experiencing no issues aren't because of a special set of circumstances (like their PS3's being off for awhile or some such).

there is no manufacturing subset of fat PS3's that are immune.

Well, at least that seems to be the first official acknowledgement that it's a clock bug, and not a PSN issue.

More like they've been reading the forums and user's feedback. The "fixing in 24 hrs" is more like "we'll wait for 24 hours to see if it fixes itself. if not, we will patch it".

If not playing MLB 10 and BFBC2 by this time tomorrow heads will roll :|

Are they really going to sit back and hope this issue resolves it self? What if it doesn't?

I'm moving to Euro land, Canada is to close to the states for me.

PS: I will never touch a twinky again, because of that fucker. :lol

wow what was that thing? poster should have put a NSFW on that. it was disgusting.

Hmm, would anyone recommend backing up their data now? I read that it would be best to not use it if already affected or not(my 60gb is affect). However, I'm rather concerned of losing some save files here.

PS3 issues: update -

http://community.eu.playstation.com...on-issues-error-8001050F/m-p/10313748#M126581

Don't know if it was posted, but it's here to new people in the thread to read.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have one of the above listed models, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

Wow I hope this does not mean that game save data will not be able to be restored if they were done while this bug was in effect.

Who are the idiots at Sony just waiting around to see if it fixes itself? This is unacceptable. I guess this is what you get with a free online service. You can bet Microsoft would be trying a bit harder to resolve such an issue since people are shelling out money to use their service.
