I don't see whats wrong with a linear game. Its like a while ago, lots of games were penalized (by stupid people and fanboys) for not having multiplayer. Would Oblivion really benefit from multiplayer? I mean, really? Now in the world of big mass open games EVERYTHING needs to be completely driven by freedom. You know what I say?

I'm glad the game is more linear. Balancing college and a job, I don't have enough time to navigate my way through every little bit of the game world just so I get the best upgrades or whatever. Thats why I didn't get into Dragon Age, I just didn't have enough time to invest in it.

Plot linearity isn't a problem, but lack of character customization and patronizingly easy difficulty might be. The stat caps and ranking are a good step forward, but it seems like they made the difficulty and complexity low early on to compensate for not being able to grind.. at least until the stat caps are later lifted.

I can tell you this quote has no basis in the game. I have no idea how he was playing the game, maybe avoiding 50% of monsters, because the battles are probably one of the most demanding in Final Fantasy games. Yes, it requires quite the amount of strategy.

As for "For much of the time, you’re just watching the game play itself." - this ends at 6 hour mark. Also, the battle system clearly points towards auto-filling commands and concentrating only on Paradigms, something that was only noticed by the review done by RPG Site. Trust me, you will have enought to do just with them.

I have always found Final Fantasy games, and japanese rpgs in general, to be incredibly infuriating, often perverse but I love them because theres some underlying charm to each of them that means I cant put them down. Looking back at FFX there are so many backward game mechanics in that game that I cant understand why I loved it as much as I did. As long as XIII has that underlying hook, Ill play it and Ill love it.

Appranly they do as MGS4 Raiden is liked. Regardless, you give Kratos to much credit by using more then one charaterstic to describe him. He's not that deep.

GoW1 is him being angry because he killed his family out of rage. He then is angry and wants revenge because he was an angry solider of Ares.
