I only managed to finish half the podcast on the day I downloaded it. My horrible boss insisted I "do work" at work ._.

But I finished it when I got home. I really do love the way you guys interact with each other. You guys really cater to my needs thank you T^T

I've always been a fan of you guys, from the day I picked up the Final Fantasy 7 blowout edition of GameFAN. (The one with Phantasy Star as the graveyard game, PO'ed, Legend of Thor, Panzer Dragoon, Albert Odyssey, Linkle liver Story (:lol ), Snatcher etc)

To be able to listen to you guys do a podcast is amazing.

Thank you.

P.S. No mail system related world trekking :lol :lol

Had to repost this from the comments section of our website, because this person may have totally cracked the eyepatch mystery.

Many Asian women think that larger , Western-style eyes are more desirable (take Ayumi Hamasaki as an example), so they get cosmetic surgery done on their eyes (similar to the popularity of breast enhancements in America). Obviously, if the doctor does the surgery on both eyes at the same time, the patient would be blind until his or her eyes have healed, so he or she gets one eye done at a time. I’m not sure why this has become an anime/video game trope, though. Perhaps people fantasize about things that they see every day? Anyway, that seems to be the most logical explanation to me.
Mind. Blown. That's gotta be it, right?

Dude, that is SO it. I can't tell you how many Japanese girls are fatally embarrassed by their hideous hitoe-mabuta.

The mystery of eye patch prevalence is solved!

But what about the reason they were fetishized...? I dunno, maybe non-folded eyelids are such an aesthetic taboo in Japan that parents allow their 14-year-olds to have plastic surgery.

No lie, I ended up spending like 6~7 hours editing this stage. At this point, I've been convinced by others to do more than just put up the shows exactly how we recorded them (as I was doing previous), but I don't think I'm going to keep doing the meticulous editing I did this time. It'll drive me crazy, and I'm not sure it needs to be that tight editing-wise.

Of course, I'm sure people will say how much they love the flow of this stage, and I'll be force to continue to do such heavy editing from here on out.

I think when 'hard work' means six to seven hours spent editing, then I can see the point. I'm sure it'll go down with practice, but it'd still be a major time-sink on top of recording a 3+ hour podcast.

I wasn't attacking Shidoshi. It was meant in jest. I know the feeling to be honest. I face it every day in my job. I work hard on something, but feel like I spent way too much time on it. It gets praised, and now I have to bust my ass on every subsequent similar project.

I feel for Shidoshi to be honest :lol

Amazing episode of the podcast, as usual! I thought the discussion of the PSP as the present-day home of the Japanese-developed games for the hardcore is right on the mark. I personally can't wait to pick-up that black friday psp bundle for $130 and dive into the Ys games, plus Persona 1/3, and other back catalog titles. Gamefan and Play were my favorite magazines back in the day and I'm glad Shidoshi, Nick Rox, and Casey Lowe are still around to give us a look at the Japanese side of the industry.

So I have been informed that both Nick and I are scrubs who do not know that, in fact, the in-game art for the original Persona 2 was done by Soejima and not Kaneko.

I think the only option now is that I quit the show in shame. (-_-;;)

WHAT?

Are you cereal?

In my defense, I never played Persona 2...but I guess the image of the brilliant cover art those games had was so strong, I always assumed Kaneko did the in-game as well. ('Cause ain't nobody telling me that cover and all the promotional art and stuff isn't Kaneko.)

I enjoy 8-4 myself, but this goes all the way back to why I stopped reading EGM back in the day and only read Gamefan: the Gamefan crew had a knowledge and passion for games that knew no bounds. Import games would be covered with the same fervor as huge mainstream titles and weren't relegated to a special section. 1up has since done a good job in covering import games but yeah, WAHP certainly has the leg up on the others (as for as JP game knowledge and willingness to discuss it at length goes). Kevin Gifford really needs to be a regular on the 8-4 show, the guy knows his shit!

This podcast is so fucking good. I mean seriously....it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fucking good!

I am just now catching up and I'm only up to Episode 003(yes from way back in April), but trust me I will be listening to ALL of them in order, every day until I catch up.

Seriously, you guys are doing PHENOMENAL job! Episode 003 was SOOO fucking good! Didn't even know there was a huge Castlevania Boxset that came out in Japan until I heard you guys mention it on the show. Good lookin' on that. Plus the SNK talk about KOF and the backgrounds and all that shit was pure win!!!!

Warning to me is heads and shoulders above every other podcast I've listened to. I dunno guys, I guess I'm just biased because I really enjoy hearing people discuss what's going on in the Japanese gaming industry. No other podcast does this(WHY???)

Plus, it doesn't hurt that I was already a big fan of the work Nick, Casey and Shidoshi did for GameFan all those years ago. It's like all the cool text from GF has been lifted from the pages and transformed into audio. To say I'm digging it is an understatement.

Keep up the superb job, guys. I really appreciate this show. Can't wait to hear what's in store for Ep.4 :)

Up to stage 5 now. UNBELIEVABLY good shit guys. The brief discussion about the state of Konami and Namco and how they're basically becoming a parody of their former selves was kinda depressing. The Namco discussion in particular nearly brought a tear to my eyes, as I want them to continue making Ridge Racer games for like...oh I dunno....forever?
