No, it hasn't been covered. BTW, anyone have a really good Resident Evil or Metal Gear myth? I feel like those two series are going to get neglected.

Gonna also repost what I said on the GT forum addressing contacting Nintendo/trying to figure out why the colors were changed:

Quote:
Nintendo doesn't comment on these as far as I know (they've declined to comment the last few times we've asked for their input). What is possible is that maybe later on at some point at a trade show like E3 we might have the chance to interview somebody who worked on one of these games. The problem usually with that is that the episode is already done, or we're more worried about asking about their current game and don't want to use a question about a past game for something like this. You only get so much time during those types of interviews. Not to mention, it's difficult just remembering to ask about a past game when rushing around to cover something like E3, and we'd also have to have the foresight that one of their answers could contribute to a future episode. I know it would have been great to include the remark from Junichi Masuda about Mew for that one previous episode, but the interview we did happened after the Mew episode aired.

I also asked the only person I could track down that's dabbled in hacking the Yoshi's Story ROM if they would be interested in checking for the code for any evidence of Purple Yoshi OR any indication why he was removed. They said they weren't into ROM hacking anymore, so that was a bust. I even got the Japanese version of the game to access the debug menu, but I didn't really get anywhere with that. Nor did using the same method as we did in the Fire Temple episode to access a debug menu in the US version of Yoshi's Story. There was a lot of potential for a cool discovery, but it didn't pan out, and I didn't want to include extra content that ended up not having any relevance to the episode just to inflate the length.

Except when you are going for all 30 watermelons in the six levels. Takes me at least one hour in each level to find them all. I just don't know why they didn't make you complete all 24 levels one after one instead of giving you the ending after just 6 levels.
And this game scared me as a kid. Razorblades, insta-kill presses, skeleton eels and moaning fire ghosts, woah.

I can't really think of anything regarding MGS, except for finding Ocelot in MGS2 Tanker, but even that's not really good.

There were a lot of crazy rumours about there being a hidden Snake "campaign" or whatever you would call it in the main act of Metal Gear Solid 2. Of course we know that's not true though.

Use an action replay on resi 1 to pick items you want in slots and boxes, you will find like 20 unused items like rags, different magnum ammo, fuel cans and stuff.

Also the door to the helicopter port near the wolf and eagle fountian is an ingame 3d model but it is never used, opened or destroyed. This is the ps1 version btw.

Resi 2 also has unused items like the scorpion smg the helicopter guy dies using after crashing on the roof and being eaten by zombies in the fmv.

The big problem with MGS, really, is that there are plenty of things that would make a fine video, but they're pretty much all well documented as it is. The ghost photos would be fun, if it wasn't that there are several FAQs showing exactly where and when to find every ghost in the game. It's like that with pretty much every secret in the games. Hidden items and weapons, special codec calls, hidden areas, all with step by step instructions. You name it, MGS has it. An MGS video would probably make more sense as a compilation of a lot of odd things you can see and do in MGS.

Yea, the whole birth of Trolljima with him leading us to think you play as Snake the whole game. You know, even though we all know it is false, it could make a good "research" episode like the Sheng Long one. I actually remember trying so much stuff to unlock Snake in the Big Shell part...was so upset.

I accidentally misread a page that had information dumped from the ROM of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. I thought it was for Yoshi's Story. The page listed a memory value for Purple Yoshi, and I thought I had stumbled across something. Then I realized what game the page was actually for a day later. So bummed. I got pretty angry at this game a few times, too...

Well, back in the day, it was common to find misinformation like that spreading like wild fire across tons of places. I would imagine it's likely a result of it being so old that it just gets swept under the rug by the places that host that stuff. I'm honestly glad that it still exists, since it's part of the culture surrounding the game(s), even if it wasn't correct. Like Mortal Kombat's various rumored things, it's become somewhat ingrained into the identity of the game for many people, and I'm happy to see it persist.

Plus, most of that stuff is super easy to figure out it's fake with a quick search, but still!

Because they're hard to disprove and everyone has a friend of a friend who did it and showed it to their cousin.

Actually, this was one I wasn't totally sure was fake just because the "cheat" wasn't removed from most sites. I mean, I was pretty sure it was fake, but I had some doubt. Fans are pretty thorough nowadays, so I would have expected the Purple Yoshi thing to be removed. Gold Yoshi was only on one site still, but Purple Yoshi...well you saw in the video. Thankfully I came across a coin guide by somebody I knew back in ancient times when I still cared about speedruns, otherwise this would have taken more than 2 days...

More specifically, almost everything after the transition following the 3-3 success is new, sans a few shots near the end. One shot also shows an attempt to use the same glitch on other levels if you look closely enough...

FYI, new episode is still coming out this month, these revised ones won't take their place.

yea, you can tell where they updated when Brandon's VO changes.

Mike Matei of AVGN fame did a glitch video about this already. I wonder if they saw that video first? i was expecting they would give him credit since GT knows them.

If this wasn't clear, I'm the creator/producer of the show. I knew this was going to get tossed around, so here's the answer.

Please do not take this as a knock against Mike Matei, but I hope this is the last time I have to say this.

First, his video went up in January of 2011, and he even said he did not discover the trick:
http://cinemassacre.com/2011/01/12/h...er-mario-bros/

Second, the trick was discovered before this, and the first time I saw it was in a video linked to from the TAS community. I originally wanted to update the episode after I saw this, but I was not given the green light to do that back then. After we had to revise the Totaka's Song episode and the precedent was set to revise episodes if there were errors/mistakes/omissions, I moved forth with identifying some episodes that we would revisit. This was the easiest of the ones to update, hence it went up first. A few more are incoming eventually as well.

I don't give Mike Matei credit because he neither discovered the trick nor was his video the first time I saw it was possible to jump over the flagpole in 1-1. However, I still have not found who actually discovered the trick, otherwise I would have credited them in the video. It would be like asking me to give credit to every person who had a video for jumping the flagpole in 3-3 - there are quite a few. However, I don't know who first discovered it, and it's probably impossible to prove who did at this point. If Mike had discovered it, I would have given him credit.

This one is an older video showing the jump.
Yep. And if you watch closely in one of the final shots in the updated vid, you see a failed attempt using the same trick in another world. Basically, you can jump over the flagpole in several worlds.

One thing to note about this that could've been a nice extra in the episode is that this trick is an easter egg in the remakes of RBY. Instead of Mew when you inspect the truck, you get a Lava Cookie.

No, she just stays there in the Temple of Time, but once you leave it, she's following you again. Here's a description.

I also have to say, awesome Episode! I initally thought that they missed the method with the Bottle glitch (that's how I did it), but they even got that covered.
I didn't even know the second method with the rod! And that you actually can send these 5 energy things back to Ganondorf - I always shot him with the Light Arrows as he is preparing that attack.
Excellently researched. Did you also visited the site zeldachaos for that episode, TSA and everyone involved in that episode?

I had to look up Steal the Rod III for OoT 3D and Ocarina on Items glitches (which lead me to Zelda Chaos and other sites), but I have known about Steal the Rod I, II, and Save/Quit at Ganon for at least a decade now.
