Great job on that episode. Really good. Sucks more people don't give interviews. We fixed the URL to QJIMBO's video in the beginning. Sorry for the typo.
It's not uncommon for Michael to be uncredited for projects. he also produced and co-wrote "Do the Bart man" for the Simpsons as well:Originally Posted by JoseOle5990
As a big fan of both Sonic and MJ I knew that the similarities were too close to be just coincidental. I mean MJ did that one episode of The Simpsons where he wasn't credited as himself even though he acted as a unique character (he had a sound-a-like do the singing parts because of contract issues). From the wiki page:
Here's the song he wrote, just for kicks. Happy Birthday, Lisa!

Michael has been involved with Sega quite a few times. He also lent his likeness to Space Channel 5 part 2. I think there is enough evidence to support that he did contribute to the music for Sonic 3 at this point.
I always knew it to be true. My ears dont lie.
Oh man how could I forget that classic? I used to have all sorts of Simpsons music (including the album that features Do The Bartman) but I lost the digital copies when I switched computers :(Originally Posted by MrCunningham

I played the psn version of Space Channel 5 part 2 some time last year and I lol'd at the Space Michael stuff. But I figured it was either an homage or just a straight up parody. Here's what's kinda bothering me. If SEGA truly wanted to distance themselves from MJ in Sonic 3, why would he return in an even greater capacity (not to mention how obvious his involvement was) in another game? I know it was like a decade later but still it's weird. *shrug*
When dealing with possible copyright issues, you want to be as save as possible. Given the media enterprise that sits on Jacksons Music, Sega could face legal action against them.So if I understand correctly, Michael did compose music for Sonic 3 and it did make it into the final game, but the exact tracks he composed are unknown? I find the whole situation to be amazing, but I do wonder why the source wanted to stay anonymous.
Especially if they used his work unaltered it could become problematic, as others are taking credit for stuff they didn't create. And talking about that could be seen as releasing company secrets, hence the anonymity request.
Music licensing is a minefield of shit, and the darling of lawyers because they'll never go out of work thanks to it.
Sounds like as close as you're going to get to a list of his tracks is the tracks that were changed in the PC release. So if I understand correctly, Michael did compose music for Sonic 3 and it did make it into the final game, but the exact tracks he composed are unknown? It sounds to me like the plausible chain of events goes something like this:
- Michal Jackson makes songs for Sonic 3, but doesn't like the sound quality and asks to be uncredited while leaving the team.
- Sega of Japan hears about the scandals and orders MJ off the team, not knowing he already quit.
- Sonic 3 developers shrug because MJ is already off the team, and since he asked to go uncredited, then... why not use the perfectly fine songs they already have?
And so, MJ's songs end up in Sonic 3.
These works would still be completely Sega's property if MJ worked on the tracks under contract for them. At this point I think it's just Sega keeping its story consistent.Originally Posted by fabricated backlash

Depends entirely on the contract. Sega doesn't own a single piece of Sonic 1 and 2's music outside of the drowning and chaos emerald jingles, those being the only two written by Sega staff.Originally Posted by Valkyr Junkie

I love this show so much.
Reminds me of all the times I'd check the CD player function on the Dreamcast to see if there was any hidden messages on the games I had.
I personaly think it deserves at least an interview about her ... but she is not a myth so big yet
I saw that image beforehand and figured it was a happy coincidence. Shout out to whoever named their trainer Mikasa though! *fist bump*Missingno in Pokemon X/Y?
Rather quick episode about the recent image that appeared.
This game. This game right here man. My favorite RPG of all time.
I stumbled upon this optional boss battle way back on the SNES and I instantly made the Final Fantasy connection. The music is so wonderful -- not just in this Culex instance, but throughout the entire game. If anyone is curious, there is an excellent tribute album out there called Heavy Troopa is Ready to Launch!. I mention this because it reminds me of the great remixes that are incorporated in the Culex encounter (all found on Disc 2):
- Track 16: Conversation With Culex – Girlz Melon
- Track 17: Battle With Culex – Temp Sound Solutions
- Track 18: Break the Fourth Wall – Arcane Addiction
The entire album is worth a listen if you're a fan of SMRPG. I did enjoy this tweet from the official GTPopFiction account...

...which is another great musical reference.
I really love Super Mario RPG
Although it is technically true that Nintendo and Square have not worked together to make another RPG, AlphaDream is a development comprised of former Square employees who made Super Mario RPG who have since made the Mario and Luigi RPG series; hence Geno having a cameo in the first M&L game.
There will be an update to the Sonic 3 episode. We're trying to get more info, hopefully a breakdown of who composed what songs.
Basically, this unreleased song is suppose to sound like Ice Cap Zone.Sent Brad Buxer's agent a link to "Hard Times" video and Ice Cap Zone. Since this apparently involves his work, maybe he'll talk this time.
This is the kind of content that should have been on X-Play before it all turned to garbage.
5 minute video showing their findings of references from previous Zelda games.
Edit: Forgot to mention, there might be some slight spoilers in there.
Unsure what you mean by latest episode but these episodes have aired after the Link Between Worlds reference video (both of these are Pop Facts episodes):Has the latest episode released yet or is it this coming Friday?
Super Mario 3D: Link to the Galaxy -- didn't watch because it said it shows off endgame bonus stuff, didn't want teh spoilars
Super Mario RPG - Sleepy Cameos -- haha I remember these cameos, Squaresoft also snuck in a Star Fox and F-Zero reference
A new episode of Pop Fiction will release on December 13th (and I'm sure another Pop Facts will release this upcoming Friday).
