So Joker 2 did as good as the first one. Great.
Also good performance for PW and SSF4.

EDIT:
Impressive legs for Nintendo games but that shouldn't be a new.

I think it's most capable to break 1 million on Japan, but I dunno about the rest of the world.

How did SSF4 do compare to vanilla 4?
edit:
[PS3] Street Fighter IV (Capcom) 86,000 / NEW
[360] Street Fighter IV (Capcom) 38,000 / NEW

vs.

[PS3] Super Street Fighter 4 (Capcom) - 81.000 / NEW
[360] Super Street Fighter 4 (Capcom) - 28.000 / NEW

Pretty damn good I'd say. Hopefully something similar everywhere else in the world.

Seems rather unlikely to me, but considering its online focus, who knows?, maybe it will pull a MHP (well, kind of).

Also, wow at Mario Kart's +105%:lol

I think that Konami might be a little bit disappointed by Peace Walker performance.
PSP is way more successful than the PS3 was in mid 2008 when MGS4 came out ( 2m installed base?:lol) and yet the game failed to beat MGS4 opening week.
Not that PW has done bad numbers but the whole purpose was to try to make money with the PSP in Japan like Capcom has done with Monster Hunter franchise otherwise I don't think that Kojima would have bothered so much with the platform in first place.
And in this case Japan will be the biggest market for the game so I really doubt that PW will sell the 4-5m units that MGS4 has sold WW, maybe 2m.
So I get the impression that it would have been better for Konami and Kojima to stick on to the PS3 which is a healthy platform in the western markets unlike the PSP.

Nah the only chance is if it has good legs and I doubt it will have considering MGS history ( although I'm not sure about the multiplayer aspect ).
Worldwide I believe it will sell over 1.5 million although not by far.

HW bundle sales for PW won't be counted in the NPD so it will be interesting to see how will it do.

I think it will come out between 8-10 but definitely in the top 20.

Maybe. But at the same time, if it were on the PS3, we'd be having this discussion 2 years from now. (MGS4 took what, 3 years, PW took 1)

Beyond that, it would be a whole different game. PW came about because he wanted to do something his son would play (on the PSP).

This is kind of like saying Lucas shouldn't have done the Clone Wars TV show, because it didn't make the hundreds of millions his theatrical releases do.

Aside:

For Context the last PSP game to appear in the top 10 was Final Fantasy Dissidia

"In the United States, Dissidia debuted at the 7th place of the August 2009 charts with 130,000 copies, despite only four days of availability" (Was apparently the top selling PSP game in the US for the Year of 2009)

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6217140.html

So I think that Peace Walker could make a Top 10 appearance.

It's not like the Wii is lacking new audience. I am sure there are tons of people who bought Wii for NSMBWii and didn't know Mario Kart Wii existed.

I think Peace Walker could have longer legs than MGS 4 due to being on the PSP, which is a system with a lot more vitality in Japan than the PS3 / Wii (I think!)

I hope I am right. I know there's other games in the franchise on the system, but I think this is the first full blown Metal Gear Solid on a portable, isn't it?

Anyway, good first week for DQMJ2 and MGS PW.

Mario Kart Wii @ top 10 = :lol :lol :lol

Also of note (look at how much the cheaper multiplayer 'expansion pack' re-release edition sold. Not including the bundle edition.

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus

Considering that Portable Ops+ was basically a multiplayer only expansion pack, it sold really well (the Portable Op/Portable Ops+ bundle sold around 38k according to the site). Hopefully the fanbase is similarly enthusiastic about all the multiplayer in Peace Walker.

I guess the big (and sad) distinction is that Portable Ops actually had infrastructure mode while Peace Walker doesn't. I know Japan is big on local play, but not having infrastructure could hurt the longevity of the multiplayer. While MGS in Japan is popular, it's no Monster Hunter.
