Well I'm burned out (MGS4 has that tendency).
But I leave you all with this: unlike its PSP predecessor (which KojiPro straight-up lied about being a "link"), Peace Walker will actually explain one thing: how Big Boss moved Zero's wheelchair back there without Snake noticing at all. It was the ol' magical helicopter. |

Well I was hyped as hell for this game but I have to agree with the thread-starter the story just became to ridicules.
And frankly I love the series to death but the whole nanomachine business was just stupid. There is fan-service and then there is TOO much fan-service almost so much that it feels pushed on us. And I believe that if you begin to play the mgs series starting with number 4 and then trying to follow the story will be too confusing no matter how many press x for flashbacks sequences they have. Oh well peace walker is being released in a month time hope that will be better (crosses fingers) |

MGS4 was one of the most horrible games I've ever played. If I've ever felt pain while playing a videogame, it was during MGS4. I sold all my MGS2, 3 and TTS after this piece of shit and now only own my Kojima-signed copy of MGS1. The others simply do not exist any more - never did. |

god what a horrible and disappointing game. i bought a PS3 for this game and though the uncharted's and other stuff made that totally worthwhile, it still hurts, especially as a big fan of the other games. it's made all the worse by the first act being really good too, before it spirals downhill into complete shit.

Well, you can pick apart the game, gameplay wise after it decides to become an on rails linear mess. 2 great chapters though.
People prefer to complain about the story anyway, because it's what pops out the most. In between Nano machines, you have lego Raiden and his city stopping strenght, a fake ass ocelot, and then one of those endings that just makes you smile out of disbelief, that something so stupid could be written so seriously. All starts with 0, before 1 comes 0. Yeah and before 0 comes -1 motherfucker. |

For some reason, I find the game to be very memorable. I can remember the flow of the game from area to area moreso than I can with just about any other game.
That leads me to believe there was something. But what? I dunno. It was just a memorable game when most try to be forgetable 30 seconds of fun and scenary repeated over an over. |

When I finally started being honest with myself, I saw that I found MGS4 to be a disappointment. There are just so many things from a narrative standpoint that killed so much of what made MGS cool to me. Glad I had fun playing a few of the acts, but it doesn't compare to how I pretty much liked everything in MGS3.
Had a blast with MGO, though. Really liked it. |

The story was incredibly idiotic, but the game still has eclectic quirkiness and painstaking attention to detail that made the previous three games great.

Damn you, I thought there would be new trophy rumors.
With that said, MGS4 is a masterpiece and will more than likely retain spot #1 for this generation's games in my book. Yes, the game has a different "vibe" from the other main MGS entries, but that's what makes this stand out - it's has unique elements. Each MGS differed in ways, namely gameplay key elements. MGS2 differed from MGS, MGS3 differed from MGS2, etc. Edit: Holy SHIT at this hate. :lol I remember GAF going crazy for it. It's really easy for you to sit back and write off the game as a bad memory, after not having played it for two years plus. Some real exaggerations here. Go re-play the series in this order: MGS3, PO, PW, MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2 then MGS4. This time, REALLY pay attention to every detail in MGS4 (I have a feeling many putting it down just run n' gunned through it all ONCE, skipping cutscenes because they 'dur let me PLAY da game kojima' and also didn't replay the series beforehand to get it fresh in their heads). And for added bonus, MGS4 with proper 5.1/7.1 surround and 55"+ high end HDTV. Disappointed NOW?:lol

I never really understood GAF's hate for MGS4. I think the game is incredible. Extremely wordy? Yes, but that's expected with Kojima. I think the gameplay was a lot of fun and felt like a nice upgrade over the previous games. Some of the scenes in the game just blew me away. Most notably when Ocelot is pretend shooting everyone, returning to Shadow Moses, and the crawling segment.
Is it the greatest game of all time? No. Is it the best game in the series? Probably not, I still think I enjoyed 2 more. However I think calling it a bad game is a serious disservice. |

Personally, if the game stuck to the formula of the first two acts, I would have liked it a lot more than I did despite the utter batshit insane story. Instead, we get an act where we follow a guy for an hour (my and my friend almost flipped the fuck out when said guy randomly got hit by a patrol truck and we had to restart a portion of the mission) and two others that are mostly cutscenes.
However, the treatment of Big Boss's support crew of MGS3 in this game really, really, really bothers me. Their random changes in personality bother me simply because of how well developed they were in MGS3 if you listened to all of their Codec conversations. Hell, we're talking about a trio that essentially formed a rare-animal-support club and all remain rather jovial with each other. Zero is developed as a nice guy, albeit by the books, who doesn't hide his love for hobbies like spy thrillers. We have Para-Medic, a rather goofy movie-loving woman who still has a strict code concerning scientific pursuit and her motivation in life was simply to help others. Sigint was a rather cynical man with a great degree of respect for Zero because Zero gave him a chance despite his ethnicity (and this actually does come up in a conversation in the game) yet still shares the same quirks as the other two. After listening to almost all the codec convos MGS3 had to offer, you really get some insight into their plights, personalities, and friendship. ... But it turns out that Zero became a megalomaniac due to a difference of opinion, Para-Medic performed brutal, in-humane experiments on super-soldiers and got killed for it, and Signit became an asshole involved in a government conspiracy affiliated with other assholes. Fuck, Kojima.

My memories of this game revolve almost exclusively around watching overly long, nonsensical cutscenes; rolling my eyes as Kojima tried to piecemeal a story that simply got away from him. I don't really have any recollection of playing this game other than a few small parts. I'm being completely honest.
