It's a dead platform in Japan, always was, and likely always will be (despite Microsoft getting a bunch of Japan targeted exclusives early on). Improvement over the original Xbox though!

Speaking of dead platforms, less than 30,000 units until the PSP Go sells its initial shipment! Yay!

Good going for the Monster Hunter spin-off. I approve of any game that results in me hearing the Monster Hunter theme being meowed on commercial breaks.

i doubt that the ps3 will sell additional 5 million units in japan in the next 3 or so years that are left of this generation

I think the first shipment was around 250,000 so that's pretty good. Sell-through must be ridiculously high.

To be fair to SMG2, SMG1 had a major gift-giving holiday's worth of sales under its belt at this point from its release.

What's the lowest Wii hardware week? Around 10K or so? Bet it reaches those lows next month.

i noticed the DSL reached 18 million. would that be the highest selling single-SKU console ever in japan or did one of the old consoles/handhelds sell more?

I think the GBC sold 30m something in Japan.

PS2 had 2 SKUs, neither passed 18 million.

GB+GBC had four SKUs (GB, GBP, GBL, GBC) totalling 30 million, not sure if any individual one passed 18 million.

Meh, I can't see it really taking off. Annoying part is because it's a peripheral we won't know how it's done beyond Sony PR and retailer feedback.

You can get a good sense through the bundles and software sales though.

Other fun news this week from the blog spectrum:

Monster hunter Diary still having supply problems: next shipment isn't till the 10th, amazon is sold out, reports popping up many major retailers sold out.
Retailers underestimated the game all around, what you guys think legs will look like?

Metroid M: Across the board pretty insignificant sales(and this is from stores that do well with hard-core gamers) unless there is some secret casual market for this that is buying it from major retailers, expect sales to be rather worse then xenoblade.

Edit as to wii: any predictions on how well mario collection is going to do?

Metroid Other M...nothing else I can think of. GT5 isn't THAT big in Japan though, it won't have the same effect as FF13.
