I'm actually really curious what Yoshida plans to do with airship rides and ferries in 2.0. We already know they will have a 'fly over' event (like in FFXI) with the option for quick travel like it is now in 1.0, but I am curious what the fly over event is going to look with new graphics. I also hope we get different airships as the current airship taxi is really, really small for a walk around. I also hope they bring back the random ferry events from FFXI and make them relevant. Nothing more terrifying/awesome then a necromancer pirate attack or seeing a huge sea creature show up and terrify everyone on the deck. Right now all you can do is fish on the ferry and occasionally experience cool weather events. |

Jobs basically let you keep their class's skills while adding a few, but restricting your outside skills to a couple of specific classes - I've only started monk recently, so my experience on the differences is limited, and I'm yet to figure out if there are stat changes to go with it. In any case, they're more focused to a party role, while the more free-form classes let you pile one whatever skills you have to help you survive solo. Seems to narrow down to the difference between being a jack-of-all-trades with a clear core ability set, and a specialist with skill that enhance that specialty. As for storylines, my favorite part, there are 2 main ones, one from your starting city, which later converges into the main story common to all cities, and another which is specific to the grand companies, which helps to complete the worldview you get from the main story. You also have smaller stories related to each class and job which you uncover quest by quest, and quite a few tie in quite nicely with the others and each other - just recently i finished a couple of different quests in the same day that were given by completely given NPCs that seemed to complete each other nicely, one opening a mystery that the other seemed to solve (IIRC, something about a character smuggling stuff to the Amalj'aa beastmen in one quest, while appearing to have been kidnapped by them in another). Avatars seem to be part of the grand company sequence of quests (at least the first form of Ifrit is, not sure about King Moggle and Garuda yet), so you'll eventually get to tango with them if you persist with those.

On the other hand, for weapons which are low-level enough to eventually get replaced anyway (unlike gear which can be used by several classes), you may be better off turning the old weapon to materia (follow the huge chimney smoke to the north of Ul'dah, some NPCs can teach you about that there) and getting a new higher-level one. |

Grind parties generally start in the 30-35 range, and you'll level up quickly with them, but a lot of people seem to end up at 50 with no money, etc. if they over-rely on this. There are three dungeons. Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak is for L25 or thereabouts, and Dzemzael Darkhold, The Aurum Vale and Cutter's Cry are for L50. They're all 1 hour runs, but if you know what you're doing, you can get through them faster. You're guaranteed to get some items at the end, provided you fulfill a number of conditions throughout the rest of the dungeon. Naturally, the really good gear has a pretty low drop rate. The "three storylines" thing was for 2.0. Right now, there are two storylines: the "Main Scenario" and the Grand Company storyline. The Main Scenario mostly sucks, because they designed it to be completable as a non-battle class. The story stuff is pretty interesting, but it doesn't go as far as you want it to, because they basically stopped devoting resources to the Main Scenario after it became clear the "non-battle class" stuff was a terrible mistake. The Grand Company storyline is the "main" storyline right now, really, since it's about all of the pre-apocalyptic stuff that's going on now. It's pretty awesome, and all of those quests will disappear forever in 2.0 since, well, we'll be in the post-apocalyptic era then.
The quests to get the Job abilities and AF are pretty good, on the whole, and Relic weapons are for Jobs, as well. Crafting is pretty awesome, I think - this is the only game I've liked it in, and I spend an awful lot of time doing it. It's great to be able to repair your own stuff, and materia melding is also really important. It's much more accessible than in other games, I think, because you can earn a living leveling off of leves - they give you mats for the synths, and exp., gil and extra mats as the reward. It's slower than if you buy the mats yourself, but I think that's a good balance. You also get a lot of bonus exp. for quality, too, so you can level for speed or max exp. per synth. It has a bit of randomness in it, of course, but you have enough control and decision opportunities to make it feel like you're not completely at the mercy of RNG. All the classes have abilities that guarantee success of different types of synthesis, give quality bonuses, restore durability, etc. to let you get more of what you want. |

1.x Content Progress
#16869
Does anyone want to coordinate and work on 1.x content over the next couple weeks?
Just hit MRD 40 last night, and I'm up to It Kills With Fire for the Grand Companies, and just have the last two main scenario quests to do (at 42 and 46). Hoping to get to 45 by this weekend so that I've at least got the level for all the GC stuff... |

That said, anyone who fought Garuda last night with me (Yui Uzuki) up for United We Stand tonight? |

I'm interested - I managed to complete It Kills with Fire the other day for the GC stuff, having a hard time not getting killed on the way to doing Forever Taken on the main story stuff.
Currently at level 45, I can help with other people's quests that are before that if I get some help with mine too, if I manage to be online at a decent time (this is a tricky week though...).

Ok either I'm dumb or it's just to complicated but I don't get it and I can tell you I'm really pissed right now. I'm playing MMORPG for a decade now and I never stood in front of a problem like that..
Here are the steps I did and I just can't login: Installed the game Logged Into Square Enix Account: http://eu.square-enix.com/en/ Added the game with the Code on the "Product Registration Card" (6 Letters + 3 Numbers + 6 Letters + 3 Numbers) and now he is asking me for my square enix ID. I am pretty fucked right now because I didn't know that I need that. I couldn't even remember what my answer was to my question and even not what my alternative E-Mail adress was at the time I created this account. Why does it have to be so complicated? Is there anything I can do to recover my "Square Enix ID"? I just really didn't know that I'm going to need that and I just can't remember about a thing on this account. I would just register a new one but now I already entered the first code... What now? I mean I already wrote the support ticket but will they help me if I don't even know the question or/and answer and my alternative E-Mail adress.. What can I do right now. Please Help GAF :( |

https://membership.square-enix.com/users/sign_in So, yeah in fact I didn't need my square enix ID at any point till I had it registered with the code.. and now they want my SE ID + PW to log in..O.o As a matter of fact I first asked myself the same question that you are asking right now, but I had to discover that SE ID =/= SE Account

This post seems to have the NA phone number: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?foru...3546218&h=50#4 Don't know if that will be of help, it seems like you're meant to go through the site and get a ticket number before you call in... |

I'm fairly certain it will turnout all right but I hope I am not the only one that is a bit concerned how 'candid' Yoshida is about borrowing so many elements from past final fantasy's at the rate he is talking about them? I know its a problem of "We were missing FF elements in the original game, don't worry we plan to make this new one full of them!" but I really think he needs to start talking more about what makes this game stand out from the previous games in the series. Talk more about the story, get people excited not just for the nostalgia but all the new experiences. Each Final Fantasy game stood alone but had quirky references from past games by either stating a name, or a completely new take on an old idea and we usually found this out by simply playing and it wasn't the ultimate focus pre-release.
I guess what I want to hear more isn't just the nostalgia bomb but an original iteration with the older content. I guess my main concern is its like revealing a magic trick... you don't tell people that something is going to be in it and why you are compelled to add it, you surprise them with it and let people call it genius. I hope once FFXIV 2.0 finally releases he actually becomes a bit less candid on this subject because some of my favorite stuff from FFXI came from nostalgia bombs out of no where like CoP introducing phoenix, Omega and Ultima weapon and we got no warning of their arrival ahead of time till the patch included the contents. |

Like, I'm disappointed that we're once again stuck with the six most standard summons as the Primals. I'd love to see them take some risks with new summons and monsters and stuff, rather than (brilliantly) rehashing everything. I do understand the strategy behind it, though, as much as I wish it wasn't the case. Even though part of me enjoyed how bold XIII was in its design reimagining of FF, a lot of people didn't. And, hey, at least they're making this "Final Fantasy" feel like this instead of like IX. |

so is it still possible to become a legacy member? The site says if you pay for 90 days from january 2012 to the start of 2.0 which seems like it will be in january or further out.
If I restart a sub for 90 days starting today will I become a legacy member? I bought the game day 1 and played until the free sub ran out. Have never paid before. |

It certainly does look like they caused some confusion about the legacy campaign but basically it takes 4 months of paid subscription to be eligible and because of the deadline requirements it means that anyone who registers after may 31st simply is not up for this. Older account holders may have a chance but the new people are out of luck.

Oy, United We Stand did not go well last night. I had us trying to follow this, but we were usually overwhelmed with soldiers, and could barely do any damage to the transmitter. Any help?

Really liking the XP and gil you get from missions. So much travelling though. Ugh. I teamed up with my sister and we split the anima costs.
Now Im at Futures Perfect and need to hit level 46 before I can do that. Shouldnt be too much longer. The story is actually semi-interesting now. I was so uninterested in it at first but they turned it around. Some cool cutscenes in there, too. As far as the GC quests go, Im going to do It Kills With Fire (Limsa) tonight and maybe the mission right after that. Really hoping to clear these out before 2.0 and its looking like thats going to happen. Im happy. Im due for another billing cycle in 4 days. My account lists me as recurring 90 days for billing but didnt they remove the 90 day option? Im inclined to leave it alone just to see what happens. |

Poking around a bit, I found this guide, which shows there are actually 3 boss rooms (IIRC I did Antares). It's been a while, so I don't recall if I met the NPC for the quest, but according to an early reply here it might appear for whichever gate you open first. |
