This is an Obsidian game that is the sequel to a Bethesda game on the Gamebryo engine.

I still hope to make it the first Fallout game that I beat.

Honestly, it can be as buggy as it wants to be. Just let everything else make me keep playing. I'm consigning my life over to this game for at least 2 full weeks.

i'm more interested in the history of the developer than reading dull in depth descriptions of every new feature. just a rundown and an explanation of the hardcore mode is fine by me.

And I would rather discuss the game itself than have the thread be dominated by an Obsidian vs Bethesda troll war. Right now it seems like the main purpose of the OP was to make an editorial comment about what the Fallout series should be, with appreciation of the game taking a back seat. And the thread title certainly isn't helping.

I like the OP. I'm tired of all these big OP's that are just game info. I already know most of that in the first place. I'm all for interesting / fun OP's. A picture of a barren wasteland with a casino showing in the background would be fine by me.

You have a very good point. Perhaps I've been too harsh.

I'm rethinking some of the wording, and I'll try some rewriting as soon as possible.

Yeah let's not shit too much on Bethesda when they're the ones who gave Obsidian this chance and made this game happen in the first place :lol

that is certainly true. i just like it when op's focus place the game in context and do a bit of editorializing instead of re-iterating the marketing/pr campaigns, and wanted to appreciate an attempt to do that. i have nothing to say about the wrpg wars; this will probably be my first obsidian game.

I really didn't have any motivation to play this game (got platnum on F3, fill like I've had my fill) but DAMN that hardcore mode sounds great. Is it selectable when you first boot up the game?

I was kind of the same way... planned on letting New Vegas drop in price but that mode alone makes me want it :lol

The Fallout 3 Mod Manager was a breeze to use. It even prioritized certain mods to help with how the game loaded.

I've decided to dedicate my first hardcore playthrough to the endeavor of attempting to discover whether or not the Bozar is in fact in this game. My primary goal will not be to acquire allies within Nevada's factions or attempt to gain control over my own slice of the strip... only to endlessly pursue that beautiful zenith of modern firearm design. I will hunt it in the same way explorers set out to every corner of the Earth to look for the ark of the covenant, and should I find one... I will use it liberally. Righteously.

Ditch the Obsidian history lesson. Focus on Fallout: New Vegas as the first impression. At most put it as a subscript at the end.

Fallout 3 was a poorly-written, poorly-balanced and all around poorly thought-out role-playing game, so I was kinda worried New Vegas would be more of the same. Seeing all the stuff we've seen, and hearing the devs talk about it made me incredibly pumped up for some reason. So now I just can't wait.

Have the CE on order. So excited to see the original creators working in this universe again.

Does anyone know if New Vegas takes place at the same time as 3? Or is it a few years later/before?

It's around 4 years after the events of Fallout 3 (2281).

From what I understand (which could very well be Obsidian-fueled bullshit), the Enclave has almost no presence in Nevada at this point.

I'm more concerned with finding Caesar (aka Metzger) and putting a shotgun barrel in his piece of shit mouth again.

Four years later. Not sure if the OP states that.

God, I have to wait to play this, but as soon as I get it I am so gonna play Hardcore mode.

I may never play another mode after that, mainly because I played Fallout 3 as a stealth character and wanted that to be tougher. Now, I get my wish.
