It's missing Puzzle Buble 3D and that dinosaur game from Ubisoft.
I guess I added Yu-Gi-Oh too by mistake. Thanks for correcting me.

Lately all the multiplatform games have sold significantly better on the PS3 haven't they? Has there been a multiplatform game released in the last year or so that sold better on Wii or 360?

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

If you count timed exclusives... Star Ocean 4 (200k+ on 360 Feb 2009 release, 150k+ on PS3 Feb 2010 release).

I thought Nintendogs will be 3 SKUs but maybe I mis-read and it's 3 in Famitsu's charts...

Overall good / expected 3DS + game sales but not as exciting as I hoped for it to be.

I think Bayonetta was the only one that came close to doing so when the game was released on multiple consoles simultaneously.

I was talking simultaneous releases, but good memory on that. I think it possibly sold less on the PS3 due to bad word of mouth, I remember some folks talking about it back then.

Good one, that was probably because the 360 version was significantly better.

I also remember Bioshock 2 selling better on 360 week 1, not sure about LTD.

Also, I think 3DS 3rd party SW has done well, waiting to see the legs on it. Someone could do a comparison of SSFIV with the PS3/360 versions.

So, what's Nintendo's plan for their next console? Because the Mario Galaxy team was one of the few Nintendo teams that wasn't working on 3DS and they just announced a 3DS game that probably won't come out until late 2012. The only major developers they have who aren't working on 3DS are Retro, who says they're making a Wii game, and the Zelda team, who is making a Wii game. Do you think they plan to keep the Wii going past 2012?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

...yes. They will probably lowball the first half and than start sort of comeback with price drops, new colors + their holiday games (announced at e3) +DQ.

2013 launch date seems insane for their next gen console; I can't imagine what state the Wii will be in by then. Besides, they've probably already announced their Holiday 2011 games (Kirby and Zelda).

Not actually that important
YES!
Sales age is back, exciting times :)

You could say Nintendogs numbers were quite low, or that new hardware@day1 is more about core gamers than anything else really.
I dunno, we should definitely wait and see what it does in the next month (and of course the whole year really, but 1 month should be pretty indicative to gauge renewed interest in the franchise) and what kind of numbers it pulls on EU/NA where 3DS shipped units will be quite a lot more at launch.
All in all 3DS software launch has been incredibily healthy, imo.

Anyway,
SALES AGE YAY! ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ

Hence why I said I think. My memory is not that awesome when it comes to Sales-Age nerdery.

.

Consideirng 40k is what the wii one sold total, I think they can consider it good.
MMV is well into profit-making area now, no fear at all of them dying, same with N1 too.

...and I just noticed the 3:1 ratio for Rune Factory. Interesting stuff. I suspect if it were Wii-only, it might have hit somewhere around the 25k mark, but another 15k on top of that for making it multiplat (with likely little in the way of extra dev cost) must be encouraging for Marvelous.
Marvelous made the right decision.

I could see SSF 4 becomin the best sellin version of the game - with legs and if Street Pass etc. takes off.

Nintendo dogs/cats isn't the best selling software for 3ds  Kinda weird since the orginal games were huge. Probably has legs but I was expecting over 100k in sales.

I would imagine the majority of people who play Nintendogs arnt out buying systems at launch.

Unless this game somehow has unexpectedly long legs, looks like Namco can call it quits for the 360. That's much worse than L4U, which wasn't even a full-fledged sequel like this is.

Good to know moving on to actual HD sprites netted N1 an additional 20K in sales.

Lupin3

Ridge Racer 3D: Shitness Evolved. I hope it drops like a stone till next week, and I want my money back!

Disappointed that SSFIV did only better than the 360 version. Hoping it will pass PS360 combined LTD with legs. Yes, I'm hopeful, but I want more fighters on handhelds.

Well, by the time SO4 hit PS3, it was considered as a shit game by the hardcore gamers in general. Also adding the fact that there were practically no extra notable additions added to the PS3 version, I'm surprised that it sold that much.

Unless MS keeps on giving Namco incentives. So far the niche devs still prefer to keep on sticking to the 360 despite that the games sell worse and worse.

I do find it unusual though, since I wouldn't be surprised if all the 360 owners in Japan actually have a PS3 as well.

they shipped more out to Major retailers over the weekend apparently. How many who knows. We know they have at least a million to spread out over the next 4 weeks.

Long live the king!

I'm actually a little surprised that of the games available at launch, Layton is the winner by such a clear margin. It makes sense that since the initial shipment is only ~400,000, the userbase wouldn't be there to support multiple games at the top. I honestly thought sales would be more split between the launch titles.

Do we have any data of the 3DS attach rate in those first two days?

Great start for Samurai Warriors. Hopefully this will stay near the top giving Koei a reason to support the platform.

What are the second week numbers for previous launch hardware? Should we expect a big drop-off for the 3DS?

I would expect Nintendo to not ship more than 250K week 2 though it all depends how they want to break up that remaining 1-1.1 million units across march. A drop is very likely of at least 100k units

Good for Disgea and N1, I am surprised actually. Other titles on PSP fare very well.

The 3DS launch looks in Ordnung. I'll wait until the end of the month to draw the first conclusions about 3rd-party software sales. I hope that by that time, SS IV : 3D and Samurai Warriors will have broken the 100k bar.

Some comparisons (all MC numbers) I find interesting...

[PSP] God Eater (Bandai Namco) {2010.02.04} - 295.405 / 634.244
[PSP] God Eater: Burst (Bandai Namco) {2010.10.28} - 263.150 / 388.065
[PSP] Phantasy Star Portable 2 (Sega) {2009.12.03} - 286.896 / 589.837
[PSP] Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity (Sega) {2011.02.24} - 206.654 / NEW
Not an expert regarding both series but I think GE Burst is less of an expansion than PSP2 Infinity, but Namco got a better start launching before MHP3 although it cut its legs short. PSP2 Infinity opens lower but doesn't have MHP3 later on to kill its legs, if it doubles its first week sales like PSP2 it'd do ~400k just like GE Burst. Right now, it looks like advantage Namco (surprisingly tbh).

[PS2] SD Gundam G Generation: Wars (Bandai Namco) {2009.08.06} - 175.304 / 299.250
[WII] SD Gundam G Generation: Wars (Bandai Namco) {2009.08.06} - 35.084 / 57.904
[PSP] SD Gundam G Generation: World (Bandai Namco) {2011.02.24} - 192.981 / NEW
[WII] SD Gundam G Generation: World (Bandai Namco) {2011.02.24} - 28.119 / NEW

PSP puts its PS2 coat on and trounces Wii version (even slightly more than PS2 did). Good numbers overall, as shown against Wars and also not far from PS2 2007 Neo entry (252k / LTD 382k), above PSP 2006 Portable entry (156k / LTD 265k).

[PS2] Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (Nippon Ichi Software) {2003.01.30} - 45.460 / 69.462
[PS2] Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (Nippon Ichi Software) {2006.02.23} - 104.059 / 147.420
[PS3] Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (Nippon Ichi Software) {2008.01.31} - 54.596 / 101.186
[PS3] Disgaea 4 (Nippon Ichi Software) {2011.02.24} - 79.425 / NEW
Not trying to burst the investors bubble but its not as good as it could be. PS3 releases are usually front-loaded and D4 won't benefit of being the 1st on the system or having a long shelf life like D3 did. Anyway, its certainly an improvement over their PSP 1st-2nd rate mix lineup, and much more likely to do good in the West.

[PSP] Dynasty Warriors (Koei) {2004.12.16} - 61.488 / 268.514
[3DS] Samurai Warriors: Chronicles (Koei Tecmo) {2011.02.26} - 49.327 / NEW
PSP Launch Musou on similar numbers more than quadrupled its FW sales, if this trends continues discostu.gif
Musou series overall seem healthier now than these last years but I don't think its as strong as it was in 2004, still SW Chronicles should have good legs.

[360] The Idolmaster: Live for You! (Bandai Namco) {2008.02.28} - 43.697 / 59.025
[360] The Idolmaster 2 (Bandai Namco) {2011.02.24} - 34.621 / NEW
Not good, quite a bit below 360 expansion of the first title and this one only does just like the DS entry...and below each of the PSP versions (46k,40k,35k for a 121k FW).
360 hasn't been pulling good software numbers lately, you have to wonder what will happen to the really niche developers on it, where they swallow it and port it later to systems like PSP or will they start multiplatform releases with PS3 (although I wouldn't say PS3 has been pulling great numbers for this type of softwate lately either) or just move to new systems (hitting 3DS/NGP soon to build fanbase?).

[WII] Rune Factory: Frontier (Marvelous Entertainment) {2008.11.27} - 18.520 / 42.235
[PS3] Rune Factory: Oceans (Marvelous Entertainment) {2011.02.24} - 28.939 / NEW
[WII] Rune Factory: Oceans (Marvelous Entertainment) {2011.02.24} - 10.495 / NEW

Yeah, speaks for itself, I was actually wondering if this could be when someone used Wii excuses for PS3 ('the first wasn't on PS3!','it looks like a Wii game!') but no chance as it beats it handily. Doesn't seem that great for Marvelous though, although if they greenlit this after RF Frontier maybe it works out for them, who knows.

[PS3] Killzone 2 (SCE) {2009.04.23} - 41.245 / 84.659
[PS3] Killzone 3 (SCE) {2011.02.24} - 26.717 / NEW
Good going SCEJ, what a better week to release it than this one. 'SCEJ going niche'-watch one step closer to target.

[PS2] Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 4 (Koei) {2008.06.19} - 54.938 / 71.069
[PSP] Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 5 (Koei Tecmo) {2011.02.24} - 26.345 / NEW
Another 'what were you thinking' type of release. This one is trickier though as 4 was the high-point, 2 and 3 on PS2 did 22k and 28k respectively, and the DS not-numbered entry in 2008 did 29k. Seems disappointing overall.

[NDS] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: World Championship 2007 (Konami) {2007.03.15} - 15.196 / 48.222
[NDS] Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: World Championship 2008 (Konami) {2007.11.29} - 34.620 / 157.980
[NDS] Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2009 (Konami) {2009.03.26} - 36.806 / 100.568
[NDS] Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s World Championship 2010: Reverse of Arcadia (Konami) {2010.02.18} - 24.132 / 24.132
[NDS] Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus (Konami) {2011.02.24} - 21.002 / NEW
Normal drop-off, you can bet the next one is locked for 3DS.

Can't believe its already been (almost) 6 years since the DS hit its stride in Japan; and now that 'era' is over.

I remember those Fall 2005 MC threads when Animal Crossing: Wild World hit and the DS selling 500k in a week.
