I am very hyped for this film. My most anticipated for 2013. I attend university very close to where they were filming some of the Tokyo scenes in Toronto and was able to see the transformation. Also I guess Morn can't update the OT at all. Perhaps we should get a information thread going to gather everything into one post which can be updated. With SDCC happening next month I'm sure info will be coming in.

Is someone really saying that Splice is better than Del Toro's directed movies?? Oh lawd. Splice is the perfect example of taking ideas that could generate real dialogue on social issues and turning it into a parody. Its execution is so flawed that it's hard to take anything it tries to say as a film seriously. Instead it makes for a pretty good laugh. It's up there with The Happening as far as unintentional comedies go.

I wonder why I didn't notice this move before! The premise sounds fantastic. Also, the plot summary reminds me - indeed - of Evangelion, which I just started watching, after GAF brought it up. Love the whole idea and concept of Evangelion.

But how come there is so little known about this movie project? Not even a teaser trailer as far as I can tell. I hope the movie release isn't getting delayed.

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/guille...ks-pacific-rim

Quote:
Total Film caught up with Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro recently, who took time out of his busy schedule shooting monster mash Pacific Rim to talk about the movie.

A massive epic starring Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam, the film revolves around an alien invasion, and the human-made robots created to combat the intergalactic nasties.

“So much of the creation of the movie was having the best creative experience I’ve ever had in Hollywood,” the director says.

Here’s a taster of what del Toro had to say about Pacific Rim. For more, pick up the latest issue of Total Film, out now…

What sort of scale are you working on?

"When we’re talking about the physicality of the fight, we ended up building several blocks of Hong Kong. And literally demolished them. We built a building and then we took down the buildings.

We built command centres of the robots that were the size of the house. We started them on hydraulic rigs that shoot and elevated them and moved them round so you could really get a sense of the physical nature driving a robot like this."

This is going to be terrible. Calling it now.

This is a really great filmmaker creating a Power Rangers film. No way he pulls it off.

I missed the part where a film can't be more than its basic one sentence concept.

Jurassic Park is about dinosaurs being brought back to life and put in a theme park.

See what I'm saying?

Yup. However if it's Godzilla partying with the (emotionally, damaged) chicks from Girls Gone Wild then we got ourselves a fucking movie mang.

I can just see the tagline now.........

I really liked the Hellboy films. And Pan's and a couple of his other non English films were a lot of fun. I wish he was still on the Hobbit.

Disagree. Del Toro just needs to go back to making Spanish films close to his heart, rather than Hollywood monster movies.
