How do you figure? In a review thread, debating over zoomed-in screenshots over a subtle amount of AA difference between versions comes across as nitpicky at best. I mean, seriously. Why not debate over how the inside of the 360 case smells compared to the PS3 version?

I know, and this pleases me. It is a hell of a savvy move to get more people playing PC games, and as a result become future Steam customers. I am anticipating at least one near-future GAF thread from somebody who tried actual PC gaming for the first time as a result of the PS3 promo, and the essence of the post being, "WHY didn't somebody tell me? WHY WHY WHY?!?!". And, that person will be playing his future multiplats at 1080p, 60fps, with no tearing or AA issues.

Wait for a resolution analysis, as it could have a blur filter applied to simulate AA. This is likely the case as the Orange Box titles and the L4D games have a 720p resolution.

You won't see 720p and MSAA in Source on the X360 as 720p + HDR + 2xMSAA is too large to fit into the 10MB EDRAM.

Welcome to Neogaf. It's obviously safe to assume that most of us will be getting this game (regardless of platform) and enjoying the hell out of it. However, did you really think there would be no discussion/posts about comparisons which gaf loves to do when there is a freaking link in the OP? You get that with the PS3 version as well. =p We'll wait for pixel counters, but those edges are just SO BAD it can't just be a filter.

It has to be a filter, as it only affects certain edges.

Eg, from here:

These edges are being assaulted by the filter. The filter seems to miss certain edges, so maybe it misses the first example because of the darker color or lighting.

It'd help a hell of a lot, yes. Besides, Portal is such a fucking good game that there's no excuse not to play it on whichever platform you can (preferably PC, since Portal can be scaled to run on practically anything remotely modern).

And the logic behind it is the same. You're saying "if you have all three, get it on PC, it's best there", that's fine, and it's true, but not everyone has all three, and if they only have two, and they still want the best they can get, that's the point of the comparison.

Now it's true there is a lot of fanboy shit behind it, and I'm sure a GameFAQs/GameTrailers forum might be hip deep in fanboy bloodshed right now, but I think for the most part people here just want to know the aspects of the different versions, and not use it for some sort of imaginary war between two systems.

Most of the time, user reviews are where I get my actual review info from that I take seriously. There's a lot more of them, and written by people with a lot more skin in the game (i.e. they didn't get a review copy for free). They also don't get "gift packs" or junkets to Italy to "review" Assassin's Creed 2.

On super high profile games, though, you're going to get this kind of BS. It reminds me of when Civ V came out, and it got blasted in Meta's user reviews and Amazon for having Steamworks of all things.

The only publisher who seems immune to the circus backlash is Nintendo, because shitting on them is like trolling a toddler by taking his candy away.

User reviews has become very political. If the item or company in question has done anything "wrong" in the eyes of the raging populace they get their Amazon / Meta / whatever reviews spammed to hell in retaliation.
