This was probably one of the BEST arcade games of its time #1

Especially since it was freaking awesome....

I still maintain that Metal Slug (1) is the best arcade game ever.

I bought the arcade version last month for like 30 dollars. Great game. Easily the second greatest voice acting of all time(best being Sunset Riders).

Yes, it can be either 2 or 4 players.

And I've played Galatic Storm. It's nothing like this. It's a really awful 3D fighting game.

Cap America was fun...more so than Konami's arcade beat 'em ups, IMO. It also had some of the most ridiculous digitized speech/voice acting in a single game.

And, yeah, Black fucking Tiger.

That is the best arcade game ever without question. Perfect mixture of patterned and multipath levels jammed with secrets combined with logical random elements to keep you on your toes. There has never been a side scroller like Black Tiger since. Castlevania cannot compete. Magic Sword was a pale shadow.

Ya, that be one of the many overrated Konami arcade BEU's that Data East's Cap America trounces. The original X-Men arcade game was cool-looking and had a lot of things going for it...but it just wasn't put together like the Cap arcade game was, IMO.

So did I. But then I saw one last year. I don't know if it made it to a limited release, if it was a prototype or an import but it does exist.

I played it for like 30 seconds. I remember Captain America, Thor and some kind of futuristic knight guy was in it. It was somewhat of a tag game. You could do big combos with your partner. It was 3D but played like a 2D game.

Hi Anyanka. You don't have to answer this but I'm just curious...how old are you and how many arcade games do you have in your home? Seems you've collected quite a few oldies but goodies.

Back when I played this in Middle School, I prayed capcom would port the game to the nes. Damn it I wanted it so bad back then. I never beat it, but I remember going to school extremely late one morning to see this guy finally beat it.

When CAatA first hit the local arcade, I played it so long I rubbed off the skin on my ring finger from scraping it against the bottom part of the joystick. When we finally finished the game, I looked down and there was blood all over the Vision picture from my finger. It was worth it.

Probably? In 1991, there was no other arcade game I'd rather play with a friend than Captain America and the Avengers! Well, maybe the Turtles arcade game. But Captain America was the shit.

There was a decent converstion available for the Sega Genesis.

I'd stay clear of the Game Gear and SNES versions, however.

Ye gods. There was something weirdly magical about the 3 - 6 player mega beat-em-up-shooter games. TMNT series, Cap n' the Avengers, X-Men, Sunset Riders, a ninja game by the Sunset Riders team. Alien vs Predator. The Capcom AD&D games. Even the arcade version of Moonwalker, still one of the most creatively visualized games I've seen.

I think those games captured an early vibe of "massive" multi-player party based action and that might've been the trick. But they also had the feeling of being there with friends and team mates; not disconnected over the Internet.

I sure know that multiplayer FF: Crystal Chronicles has been one of the most godlike team experiences I've ever had - but feels more than a little like the good old days of these games.

Ah, I remember that one. Wasn't it unbalanced and kind of cheap, though? (But then again, most of the good arcade games were.) I think I played mainly as Vision and Quicksilver.

Even the Simpsons arcade game, which, for being made so early in the Simpsons franchise history, is probably one of the best licensed games out there. The graphics, the references, the secrets... I liked that if you waited around too long (which arcade game makers didn't want people doing), the finger telling you to go on would start beating you up. TMNT: Turtles in Time had something vaguely similar, with Master Splinter bombing the Turtles himself, but that really didn't make much sense.

MECHA JACKSON! There is some absurd genius in, "Well, he turns into a mech as a special attack."

The only problem is that CC isn't really designed to be out in public on a whim, you either have to grab friends and set it all up ("Does everyone have GBAs?" and all that), or play it solo. I just got the game the other day for cheap and have played it through, and it's decent, but it seems like the whole GBA angle is forced simply because the command system isn't well thought out. Doing everything is just so much slower than it needs to be.

That said, a DS CC would kick all arse, and I'm up for that. And that WOULD be the type of thing to take out and play against others. Although it's still not on quite the same availability as an arcade game.
