General rise in hardware and software this week. That's good to see.

But Dead or Alive is a massive bomb.

One Piece, awesome. I thought hardware for 3DS would have at least been able to outpace PSP this week and get to an multi-week high.

With those Pandora's Tower sales might have just been better off increasing development and making it a first or so party 3DS game...

Pretty much everything but One Piece bombed. lol @ Dimensions, DOA indeed.

Meanwhile, all hardware looks to have gotten a nice rise.

Decent sales for One Piece and nice boost to 3DS hardware.

If I'm not mistaken, an RE game, Zelda and Tales of the Abyss are set for release in June? I guess we'll see just how well this thing can sell with three big hits.

All are ports more or less though (as were One Piece and DOA really). They'll help for sure but 3DS isn't going to really take off until it starts getting attractive new conent. I don't really expect it to start outselling PSP until fall probably, especially since PSP has Type-0 coming soon.

Pandora's Tower is released on a console with 11+ mln install base where there's nothing to play right now and it is an RPG.
Dimensions is released on a relatively new handheld, it is a fighting game and it still sold a few thousands more in its opening week. Both games are bombs, but I'd only call Pandora's Tower a massive one.

I'd call DoAD a massive bomb.
When it's selling less than 50% of what the games did on X-Box or 360, I'd definitely say that's a massive bomb.

Xbox and 360 both had actual sequels, Dimensions isn't quite the same thing. The best comparison is probably Ultimate, though yeah even there Dimensions isn't looking too good.

After SSF4 did reasonably well, this is pretty dissapointing.

Jesus, another Cave shmup bomb. They're having no luck at all anymore.

I guess that about wraps it up for shmups on the X360. I wonder if they'll start appearing on the PS3 now or if the genre will just go away for a while.

Nice numbers for One Piece and 3DS did ok this week, mini-revival?

PSP am still god though, to J-GAF - is Akiba's Trip supply constrained or has interest just died from last week, the drop is pretty large...

Cave can't afford to have the genre go away if they want to stay in business though, can they?

I'm no expert, but the drop seems normal for a niche audience game like Akiba's Trip.

How does one piece compare to other recent releases? (I assume Gigant Battle started higher but that would not be surprising).

We'll see how RE does next week, I really don't know what to expect with that one.

Also Treasure Report did much better than Zack and Umbra, but it seems copying Layton definitly doesn't work as well as copying MH heh.

I guess that about wraps it up for shmups on the X360. I wonder if they'll start appearing on the PS3 now or if the genre will just go away for a while.
I don't recall.... did Cave ever give a reason why they were exclusively releasing all those shmups on the X360 anyway?

Sony didn't accept their stuff for the PS3 because weren't in their proper resolutions AFAIK.

At the very worst, they'll probably go digital only.

yea, if they don't consider porting to other platforms, they will once again fade away on consoles. very bad for the genre.

Well they don't have anymore new games to port at this point (only older catalog titles and games that were already ported to other systems) and there was a rumor about them possibly taking a break from making new arcade shmups. So maybe a few year break wouldn't hurt them much. IIRC they were looking to move to social media games or something as well.

True, as long as Cave's shooters do well on iOS, I imagine we'll see more there.

These are dark days for shooter fans.

So was the supply constraint official? Was wondering why my pre-order took over 2 weeks to ship.

One Piece gets my approval as a port that doesn't look lazy.

Wow, Cave really has nowhere else to go at this point. I suppose there's only so much you can sell on a dying fanbase in Japan right now. You'd wonder what the actual 360 fanbase is in Japan right now.
